Everyone. Everyone!
The Greatest Showman fell out of the top ten this weekend. After nearly three months. Its global box office stands at $389 million.
It will pass Civil War globally by the end of next weekend.
In inflation-adjusted terms, Black Panther has now outgrossed each of the Lord of the Rings movies.
Within a couple of days, it will be the third-highest grossing superhero film in inflation-adjusted terms, behind Spider-Man ($637 million), The Dark Knight ($683 million) and The Avengers ($705 million).
I wouldn't be surprised if it ends up beating the inflation-adjusted total for Spider-Man by the end of its run (which would mean that it would also beat the non-adjusted grosses of TDK and Avengers).
Also (after adjusting for inflation), it's already easily the highest-grossing non-summer, non-holiday release in the last few decades.

Meanwhile Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle continues to be the biggest grossing sequel nobody wanted until they had watched it:
http://www.boxofficemojo.com/movies/?id=jumanji2016.htm
Worldwide total so far of $937,420,112 - against a $90,000,000 production budget?
Not bad at all.
The film has already crushed every film in the DCEU - it's nearest rival, Wonder Woman, is shy of its numbers by over $120,000,000 dollars. Sony/Columbia must be wondering where they went right.
I mean... not gonna lie, the movie earned that money. Sometimes you need to go for a romp with a big, sweet, dumb dog. And that movie was the friendliest mutt you’ll ever see.
I know, like? It's so much better than I thought it would have been that it's silly.
So, looks like Black Panther will top the box office the fifth time in a row. More an indicator for how badly Tomb Raider did, but still an impressive record.
For context, only Avatar has quintuple-topped the box office.
This century, you mean.
Peace is the only battle worth waging. Not directly Box Office, but I hope closely enogh related, that it's not off-topic:
"In January, movie ticket company Fandango reported that Black Panther set a record for ticket presales for Marvel movies (beating out 2016’s Captain America: Civil War’s previous record), setting up it up for a massive box office haul that’s since surpassed $1 billion. Tickets for Marvel’s upcoming Avengers: Infinity War just went on sale on Friday, and Variety reports that the ticket sales for the film have already blew past Black Panther’s record — in just six hours."
Yup, somewhere Jack and Rose are laughing at the idea that being #1 for a whole five weeks is some kind of staggering feat.
Well, even if it runs in every screen available on full houses, Infinity war will still have a hard time setting a new record on opening time, simply because of its runtime. Adding advertising to it each showing will tie up the screen for at least three hours.
Infinity War is also being released in a more crowded season anyway. Releasing Black Panther in February was a stroke of genius. I think Hollywood is finally realizing the concept of a Dump Month isn't as set in stone as it used to be.
Yeah; I don’t understand why other action films didn’t give Infinity War a larger time span to own the box office before opening. The other films will make less, barring a stunning upset, than if they waited longer before opening. Movie goers are more likely to skip a movie than see 3 movies in a couple weeks.

Hopefully being pushed ahead a week will help it a bit.
Peace is the only battle worth waging. They kind of did...there are other releases in May, but none really of the action variety, other than Solo (which is a Disney movie too) and Deadpool 2.

Yeah; if I were Disney I’d have kept Solo for June; Fox should have saved Deadpool for June as well.
Poor Tomb Raider.
Mileena MadnessIt did apparently suck. Reminds me of the Ratchet and Clank movie. Everyone just played the game instead.

Tomb Raider was very video game-y. And lots of gratuitous boob shots.
Basically, imagine if you picked someone who's never played a Tomb Raider game and is only vaguely aware of Tomb Raider through pop culture osmosis, based purely on the worst parts of its reputation. And you went to that person and were like, "You. You're making a Tomb Raider movie."
The Tomb Raider movie is a reasonable facsimile of what you would get.

My Tumblr. Currently liveblogging Haruhi Suzumiya and revisiting Danganronpa V3.There's just not enough weekends in the year anymore, too many blockbusters and tentpoles come out way too close to each other
Wait, we're talking about the new Tomb Raider? Wow, I didn't even realize that was out. I was thinking of the original one.
My Tumblr. Currently liveblogging Haruhi Suzumiya and revisiting Danganronpa V3.To be fair, they were working off pretty bad material. The older games are pretty much Best Known for the Fanservice, and all anyone really remembers about them is the fact that Lara has huge tits and wears really short shorts. It wasn't until the reboot game (which the new movie is primarily based on) that there was a serious attempt made to make Lara an actual 3 dimensional character.
So basically, the original Tomb Raider being a bunch of boobs and ass shots with some cheesy one-liners and vague girl power sentiments was a pretty accurate adaptation.

The movies being based off the new game, I legitimately think just made people interested in it want to play the game.
To nobodies surprise at this point, Black Panther moved past the billion mark worldwide. It should overcome The Dark Knight Rises easily, leaving only Civil War, Ironman 3 and the two Avengers movies ahead of it. Domestically it already has only to beat The Avengers at this point.
