"Hmm, I see..." His face having a proper look of hyper-focused concentration etched on it, Negi pondered the girl-turned-pony's word for the briefest of moments before agreeing "You will indeed have my aid, such a villain can't be allowed to drive his hooks into the mind of innocent people and puppeteer them about... especially innocent children." Forgetting for the moment that he was in fact a child, the boy genius' mind flashed about as he took in the data and began correlating it.

"As for my magic style, in my system's terms you could label me a Magic Knight. I'm more mixed bag compared to truly dedidcated long-range Sorcerers in that I have melee capabilities and am expected to get up close and persona as opposed to just casting spells from afar. I can pull off most roles save for dedicated support/healing, though I tend to focus on striking hard and fast with lots of mobility options along with some spells to hinder enemy movement on my behalf. Roughly half of my spells can be deemed long-range though while most of them are of either the lightning or wind elements." The magister explained his own roles in combat, leaving it to Caro to deem what position he should be put in.

"And as for this Lord of Change, wouldn't dragging him to the Library finish off this particular problem once and for all? Though it seems hard, as long as we can somehow either force or trick him inside this territory..." A hard glint appeared in his eyes, making the wizard look less cute and more predatory like a real stoat would be, even going so far as to instinctively baring his fangs for the moment. "Once this occurs, the Librarian would be able to use her amazing abilities to render this blight... purged. The amulets preventing mind reading would also help out in this regard as well."

The serious mood lasted just long enough before he saw the vaunted Mid-Childan magic in action, putting two and two together when he saw the specialized equipment. "I see, so Mid-Childan magic is akin to the Pactio system in that it summons artifacts to bolster the user's powers and act as a magic channeling focus! It's rather ingenious and saves on so much space!~" Gushing at the magitech being shown in front of him, the boy began mentally inscribing ideas for later use when he got enough resources.

"... I don't think it would be a good idea for me to be your mother Mary. But, thanks for offering" Miss Tairee said sincerely and apologetically as she came to the top of the last stairs to the first floor. She paused there, so she could speak a little more to Mary and hopefully not have anyone else overhear. "I'd prefer if you didn't tell anyone, but I'd understand. Because my boss made my request the challenge reward, it got written on that plaque for anyone to read... I'm sorry about that" the librarian added, then descended down the last flight of stairs.

Meanwhile, Sir Redring raised an eyebrow. "Well I hardly just disappeared; I was merely doing other things around the city. It's surprisingly big you know" Sir Redring said to Sadness, then glanced up as Miss Tairee approached with Mary.

"Now, I've gotta see about finally making this tank mobile for Sadness, and get back to work" Miss Tairee told Mary, carefully picking her up between her claws like she had before and setting her down next to Sadness' tank. She then wandered over to her central desks, and was just about to start typing when she glanced out the glass to the scene outside. "... Is there a reason that they're starting to fight?" the librarian asked nobody in particular, looking at Dante and Vergil. She shook her head and sighed in slight exasperation and began slowly typing away on her keyboard.

Meanwhile, Rex and Cole's announcement had gotten the skeptical attention of Lieutenant Wells, who wandered over and glanced between the two and the unconscious honey badger. "Lightning? Are you sure that's the cause?" Lieutenant Wells asked, slightly skeptical and somewhat curious. "If I'm not mistaken, we do have some materials available that tell of these particular demons and how they work, correct? We should consult those, and see if those have anything to say about using lightning" the soldier suggested.

Soon as Cassiopeia picked up the little child, it snuggled into her arms and smiled. After she drew her glyph and spoke, it glanced up at her face and looked confused. For a moment it tried opening its mouth, mimicking her own movement, but was just breathing in and out. Then it managed to start making noise, but not words, just a sort of low "aah, ah?"

As soon as Miss Tairee descended the stairs with Mary, Ben hopped in her direction and clambered up the desk.

"Miss Tairee! Good to see you! How's Mary? Is she okay? Can you make her human?" he asked, barraging her with questions without meaning to. It was clear from his tone of voice that he wasn't trying to, but he sounded very concerned for the girl, plus he sounded urgent to help Mary's condition before Old Feather Beak decided to take matters into his own talons.

As Vergil rushed forward, Dante made a prepared backflip out of the way, leaping over the sword aimed for his chest, while simultaneously deflecting the other sword with his own sword hand. He landed on the ground a few feet away with a clumsy-sounding clank, followed by raucous laughter that shook his entire body.

"Ooh, man, just as feisty as ever, aren't'cha, bro? Well, that's fine by me! I was dyin' for some exercise!"

As a return volley, Dante did a little skip forward, then feinted going for a leg-sweep. In anticipation of a hop backwards from Vergil, the young demon hunter used the momentum from the leg-sweep to swing himself around and use his sword hand as a pole-vault to launch himself over his brother, trying to gun him down with his free hand-gun-thing.

Of course, such a plan would fail entirely if Vergil didn't try to dodge the fake leg-sweep...but hey. Can't fault the man for trying, eh?

Grimlock; Breakdramon mode

Library

Grimlock just, once again, listened. He figured that he needed focus his attention in the planning to complete the challenge. He was worried about the confrontation between Ben and that demonic armor but Cole thankfully diffused it before he could do anything. It turned out he was right about him needing to pay attention as he would've been lost in Caro's exposi—uh, analysis. There were a few big words but he got it for the most part. That was the bright side of having been on a team with a war hero.

But wait, they were fighting an army? And they needed to distract Lord of Change and Ruckus too? Scrap.

"They're too little of us to distract Ruckus and fight the boss at the same time," he said after the little long bodied mammal, apparently named Negi, suggested to bring its leader here. "I say we just plan to beat the champion. It's only for today and I wanna help Mary real bad. We might not get another shot to turn her human."

True, he could ask others to help, but they were running out of time and their best bets to help, Rex and that armor guy, weren't...oh. They're here. Still, he highly doubted that would be enough to face two armies. Especially considering they had no idea who the champion was so they couldn't even plan for—wait... He looked to the central desk and saw Miss Tairee was back. Ben was there too. He remembered her job was to help them within her limits. Maybe...

"'Scuse me, I'm gonna try somethin'," he said as he made his way to the desk.

Once there, he said, still using the library voice, "Miss Tairee? Can you help us with the challenge?"

Dante was indeed correct in anticipating Vergil dodging the leg sweep. However, the method he choose to evade would negate his planned follow up, as Vergil, rather then jump backward, leaped directly up into the air over the leg, and quickly struck out with a leg aimed squarely for Dante's head as he ascended to the peak of his jump. Whenever or not that kick landed, Vergil would follow it up with a vertical downward slash with one of his arms, aimed with the intend to cleave Dante's helm in two.

Jack's eyebrows, or what counted as eyebrows on a snow leopard, rose as the white-armoured figure with the sword and gun arm talked. Apparently the suits of armour were brothers? He supposed that made sense. Still, things were getting a little too stabby and even though they'd pass through him if they hit him, it still wouldn't feel good. Time to retreat to a safe distance.

Floating closer to the Library, Jack stop flying and dropped his staff so he could try and work the ache out of his jaw. The brothers were surprisingly agile for heavy-looking suits of armour, and they knew how to fight. The Winter Spirit was far from the best fighter, but he'd been around for a while and he'd seen enough to know.

Focused on watching the odd sight before him, Jack failed to notice his new tail brushing against the side of the building, sending spiralling patterns of ice climbing it and onto the glass at the front.

Cocking his head, Jack spoke up. "I know brothers fight, but this is going a little far you'd think."

As Vergil launched himself into the air instead of hopping backwards, Dante had time to think, "Aw, crap," before his brother's foot connected with his face, sending him bouncing across the ground...which, ironically, saved him from the vertical slash that Vergil had aimed for right after kicking him out of the air.

Slowly, Dante got to his feet, chuckling. "Looks like you're not too used to your new body yet, either, Vergil! Your kick's got a lot more kick now that you're a suit of armor instead of your normal skinny self!"

As the young demon hunter prepared for another counterattack, he heard the voice of some kid off to his right, and he looked over, throwing his hands in the air in response to what he said. "Hey, what can I say? The two of us have never been too good at solvin' our problems peacefully. Always gotta scrape, always gotta kill each other once or twice before the other backs down, that kinda thing."

Now, instead of launching an offensive himself, Dante took a stand, making a "come on" gesture with his sword hand. Let's see if you can still zap around like you normally could, brother, he thought, the little eyespots in his visor narrowing. Heh. Without that, you're gonna be a sittin' duck.

Jack froze in shock. There was no possible- It couldn't-

His mind jolted for a second at the idea that this armour could hear and see him. Even now, the only people who could see him, who truly believed in him, were Jamie, his sister and his friends. For this stranger to be able to...

Jack got up on all fours, hesitantly taking a step towards the person. "Did... did you just hear me? And... see me? Can you see me, right now?" His voice raised in pitch on the last question, a tinge of something almost like hope in his tone.

Miss Tairee turned and looked at Ben for a moment with that unreadable alien face, blinking once. "Mary's fine, Ben. And she shouldn't be causing any more trouble... I hope" Miss Tairee said, turning back to her computer. "And as for your other question, well..." she trailed off, turning her head down and sighing lightly.

"Yes, I could. And normally that would just be that, but due to the safeguards my boss put in the city, I would not be able to turn her human permanently. If she were to end up dying, she'd come back, but as herself again, not human" Miss Tairee explained, looking back up and to her computer, starting to type again. "But if today's challenge is completed, my boss would override the safeguards and modify Mary's template so that the change would be permanent" she continued, then glanced at Grimlock as he came over and asked about her helping with the challenge directly.

"... Not reeeally" Miss Tairee muttered, seeming to think it over carefully. "And remember, anyone who comes into my library and disrupts my work I am allowed to deal with at my own discretion. Understand?" she added to the transformer, tilting her head slightly as she stared at him.

Turning her attention back to her typing, she paused as she looked at something on the screen. "Wha-? Has to remain as a... Oh damn it boss, you and your sense of humor, fine then" Miss Tairee commented aloud, and started typing again slowly. After a few moments, Sadness' fish tank blurred, and changed. Beneath her water filled tank was a set of six different treads with some armor plates on them; and attached to one side of her fish tank was a large, vaguely rectangular shaped cannon. Inside the fish tank a small board of controls appeared, which would allow her to operate the treads, rotate her fish tank and thus the cannon, activate an alternate mode, and of course, fire the cannon. It seemed her fish tank had been transformed into... A tank.

Wells asked Cole and Rex they were completely sure that lighting truly was what had cured Kelsey.

"Well, it's just a hunch. Either that, or the demon left her for some reason"

At that moment, Tairee walked down with Mary. She left her near Sadness' tank which was turned into a combat tank moments after. Rex was surprised by that last bit (wouldn't it be easier to turn her into something that could breath air?) but his mind focused more on Mary and how she had seemingly gotten off scot-free.

"So, we are going to let her walk away just like that?"

Sadness didn't have time to say hello to Mary again. Already, Miss Tairee had started doing...something, on her computer, and Sadness reacted a bit when she heard her name. "Wait, what are you...?"

And then her simple little tank transformed. Sadness jumped in surprise again, smacking herself against the far wall of the glass, and shook her head to clear away the nausea from the blur. She was now in a tank. No, a literal one.

"U-um...." Sadness stammered a bit and glanced around at the tank, at the odd and somewhat scary new additions. "...uh." She swam over to the control board and cautiously bopped a button with her head. The tank immediately jolted 90 degrees to the left, sloshing a bit of water and almost falling off the table. Sadness righted herself quickly.

"It's..." the blobfish started. "I feel sort of...dangerous." Surprisingly, she didn't look dissatisfied.

Library - Strategy

Caro smiled awkwardly at Karkat before replying, " Um ... Maybe later then. I'm curious about it, but I have really pressing matters to discuss with the others."

Thankfully, Both Nanoha and Negi agreed to help them in the fight. Zelda somewhat agreed with her plan for the challenge itself, but wanted to come up with plan to distract the Lord of Change and Ruckus first. Grimlock commented that maybe too little of them to be able to both distract and fight.

After Negi's explanation of his combat roles , she replied, " I think that Zelda is right. It's more important to focus on finding a way to distract our enemy right now. After that, we can move on to discussing strategy for the fight itself. Now, like Grimlock said, there are probably too few of us to be able to properly distract the Lord of Change. Either we need to get more people to join us or ... " Caro pondered for a few moments before having a flash of inspiration. " Or we try to make it only seem there are a lot of us! Negi, do you know any illusion spells, like one that could make copies of us? Because if you do, then I think I may have a plan."

Ben understood why Miss Tairee couldn't just solve the challenge for them, but that just raised so many questions. "Wait, then if there are safeguards that mean she won't be a human permanently, how would we make her a human permanently? No one here is a Blue Fairy, I can't just wave my hands and go bibbity-bobbity-boo and turn her into a real girl... hm.... do you have spellbooks in that library of yours? Can you find a spell that one of us can use to turn her into a real girl?"

He glanced over with one of his eyes towards the tank that was being spawned for Sadness. He laughed, sounding incredibly excited. "Oh, man that's cool!" Ben shouted.

The girl didn't look happy per se, but at least she stopped crying. Sans kept moving her around for a bit to see if he would get any reaction from her and he knew that if he dropped her on the ground she was probably gonna start crying again.

He then glanced at Cassiopeia and her attempt at communicating with the plant boy, with unsurprising results. He decided to take that opportunity to tease her a little bit.

"plants can't talk, silly," he said, the grin on his face then changing to look more like a smirk.

He then gently lowered the bee girl on the ground to see how she would react.

"Hi hi~!"

Mary cheerfully waved at everyone in the library when Miss Tairee put her on the desk next to Sadness' tank, then spent the following few minutes staring at everyone... and pretty much at everything as well. She stared at the desks, she stared at the chairs, she stared at the floor and she stared at the doors. She also stared at the animals and other things in the library, at the fight going on outside, and at Sadness' fish tank. She stared a lot at the fish tank. Specially when it turned into a... well, tank. She stared at the big things under it that let it roll around, and the other big thing that popped out of it, which she immediately assumed was a passenger seat.

And she definitely liked what she saw.

"Oooohh, pretty!" the little blue doll exclaimed, unable to stop staring... until something else caught her attention. "...hey, is that my big sis?"

As soon as Mary pointed out "her big sister", Ben turned around and saw Rex and Cole, coming in with what looked an unconscious honey badger.

The same honey badger that had tried to maul him. Luckily, she hadn't seen him turn into a lizard, so hopefully she would ignore him when he woke up. Still, he winced, trying to hide among the colors of the desk until it was clear she wasn't threatening.

Rex rolled to Tairee's desk. He wanted to make sure that Kelsey was actually cured and not that OFB had somehow made his influence invisible to Cole's powers. Plus, she had survived a nasty fall and getting shocked by Rex. The teen placed Kelsey's body on the desk to let the librarian examine it.

"Can you check if the demon is possessing her? She just sort of fell asleep after he ran away"

Meanwhile, Mary, the girl that had turned into a doll and that was responsible for turning Cole into a demon asked if the unconscious honey badger was her sis.

"Get this through your thick skull, Mary. She's not your sister!"

Karkat - Library

ALRIGHT, SUIT YOURSELF. Then, in order to feel important again, he asked, WHAT'S THIS ABOUT FIGHTING, ANYWAY?

Having ended up at the library some time ago after going with Rex and Co., Twilight breathed a sigh of relief after seeing Mary come down the stairs. Afterwards, Rex set the badger on the table to be examined and hopefully purged of demonic influence.

And then Rex shouted at Mary that the badger was not her sister.

Not entirely aware of who the badger was, and also aware of having a sibling-like friendship with people you aren't related to, Twilight spoke up against Rex.

"Hold on, let's not make things worse! Let's see where the examination goes first!"

Grimlock; Breakdramon mode

Library

"Oh, okay," he said, obviously a little dissapointed. He was a little confused on why Miss Tairee suddenly mentioned about having the right to kick others disturbing her out, but just nodded and said, "Yeah. I get it."

He carefully made his way back to Caro and Zelda's group just as the loud crab asked his question. Though he was still wary of the guy, he was tiny and he was, apparently, Caro's friend, so he'd have to ignore the fact that he was creepy.

To his question, he said, "There're these guys we have to fight and beat if we wanna make Mary a real human. She's a friend of ours."

"We're planning on being the first to complete today's challenge, Karkat-san. Which means we rush to defeat the unknown army before the Ruckus can do so or disrupt us in our goal of doing so in order to be the first one to grant young Mary's wish." Also hearing what Caro said, the boy tilted his head to one side before slowly nodding. "Well, I do have a spell for something similar to that, I believe... Ras tel ma scir magister... Lightning Decoy." Chanting softly, energetic white lightning tendrils crackled about his tiny body for a moment before squirming off in large ropes to condensea into a likeness of the boy's image while changing in pigmentation so that they now looked like the right coloration. Where stood one now stood five fairy ermines peering at the group with their big old eyes.

"They're mostly paper tigers though since they dispel with one good hit. Until then though, they're somewhat autonomous in nature and can sustain themselves for a while. They also release an electric shock in the nearby vicinity when forcibly dispelled too since they are created from electrical energies." Five tails wagged back and forth in perfect sync, making the effect look rather surreal. "If we need more copies, Chamo can also get in on this by creating magical circles to make paper dolls transfigure into golem duplicates. That method though makes copies that act somewhat... different from the originals. And they're a lot dumber too to be quite boorish and frank."

"Weren't you paying attention? I said my boss will be the one to do it, if the challenge is defeated" Miss Tairee said to Ben, still slowly typing on her computer. "He's the one who put the safeguards there, so naturally he can override them; but only he can" she explained.

As Rex was taking Kelsey over to the central desks, unbeknownst to him Kelsey had slowly opened her eyes and taken a look around without turning her head. Upon realizing where she was, she promptly closed her eyes again, deciding she'd be better off pretending to still be unconscious. After Rex set her down and asked Miss Tairee to check, the librarian glanced at the honey badger, then hit a few keys on her keyboard; with a blur, her eyes started glowing green with true sight, and she looked at Kelsey again. "Yes, she is not possessed. Was previously, but not presently. Also, she's awake right now" Miss Tairee told Rex.

Kelsey eyes shot open and she made a frantic scramble to escape, which got as far as jumping off the desk and yelping in pain once she hit the floor. She collapsed in a heap there, breathing heavily. "And three of her legs are broken" Miss Tairee added simply, then turned her attention back to her computer.

The little bee girl had been calming down more as Sans floated her around, though she was also starting to look a bit frustrated when she found that she couldn't control where she was going. After Sans set her down, she looked at her feet touching the floor, tried waving her arms again, and started slowly sobbing again. This got the attention of the seedling child, who looked over with that concerned expression again.

Plague Knight breathed a sigh of relief as Marcus went on his way. The alchemist really did not to get into a fight right now.

Soon he spotted his pub from the sky and kept his sights trained on it as he made his descent. He swiftly landed and walked up to the entrance. Thankfully the doors merely had handle to pull instead knobs or turning mechanisms, allowing his talons to merely pull them open. He went through the entrance room, then into the main area......

Only to find that his wings, even folded up, could fit through the doorway, leaving him in a rather awkward position.

"Um, someone, preferably not a looter, please come help me if they can!" he unintentionally called out to Sans, Pea, and Valentine.

Ben opened one of his eyes upon explaining that her boss would be the one to return Mary to normal. He waddled over to the plaques on her desk, realizing he had not read them yet. He blinked a couple of times. Oh. He turned a deep green, looking rather embarrassed. "Well, egg on my face," he murmured. He looked over at Kelsey when he heard the sound of her trying to escape. He immediately curled up against the desk again, but then checked on her once she collapsed.

"This is gonna sound really stupid... but I think we should help her," he stated. He didn't like seeing people this hurt. If she was going to stab him or maul him or something, that would be on him. But he had to be the better man here. Heroes help people in need. Even psychotics like this one.
