I meant on how I go about nerfing those aspects. Well I was thinking of having like an in-universe reason for why Herc's not as strong or fast in that world as he is in his world and that reason is because the writer wanted to have everyone be equal in their abilities which I assume that's what he'd do in this situation, realising Hercules is technically a demigod he would want to tweak or miss around with his powers for a laugh. That's why I asked but the real question I wanted to ask is do I put this in-universe reason both the Super Strength and Super Speed sections or do I have to wait until my character's being introduced and then explain why?

the in universe reason for all nerfs is that the guy who makes the city makes sure no ones 2op

actually noting that in the signup is your choice but hardly anyone actually does that

Okay so it's his Super Strength and Super Speed that I need to worry about in terms of his abilities to nerf right?

@The Starscream 759: You need to change to mention that he is technically a god, and mention in some way that his strength and speed have been toned down, yes. I thought my previous post was pretty clear about this.

And while I won't require it, I would consider it better if you change the back story segment to reflect the other thing I brought up as well. As it currently is, it makes it look like you don't understand the story and character as well as you should. Like you just see him as an adventure story line and a power set, without seeing the nuance and character depth beneath that.

Okay the backstory I can easily explain with that one. It's more a factor of I haven't seen the movie in ages and admittedly I was tired when I wrote that bit so yeah it was poor I will admit that. So I guess just change the half human thing and remove the god-likeness in the Super Strength section, Super Speed as far I remember he didn't use as much as his strength so maybe just he maybe have something like he runs really fast. So okay I'll start editing then.

  • Story: Fate Zero
  • Name: Berserker/Lancelot
  • Age, gender, and species: Age indeterminate, male, Heroic Spirit/Servant
  • Appearance: Arrthurrr!
  • Personality: Berserker is dominated by the Mad Enchantment, depraving him of most reason and sanity. He is unable to be reasoned with at all, though he can recognise any ally when he sees one. His soul desire is to find and kill his king.
  • Back story: Berserker is Lancelot, the greatest of the knights of the Round Table.
  • Skills/powers/abilities: One of the most formidable Servants around, Berserker's skill set includes Eternal Arms Mastership, which allows him to retain his fighting ability even under the Madness Enchantment. His Noble Phantasm, Knight of Owner, allows him to wield anything he gets his hands on as a D Rank Noble Phantasm with complete mastery, including a jet.
  • Items: Nothing much to speak of here, except his sword, Arondight. But that's sealed.
  • Other: If there's something you think you should mention that doesn't fit in any above category, put it here.

Major WIP this one.

@The Starscream 759: Sending me a private message isn't really necessary; I have this thread on my watchlist, so you can just post here again. Anyway, you still have Hercules listed as human, and now you've gone too far in the opposite extreme with the back story. I didn't mean basically recap every story beat the movie goes through; just summarize what's important to know to understand him as a character, like say for anyone who hasn't seen the movie.

And goodness' sake, also put some paragraph breaks in that thing. It's a huge pain to read through a giant block of text like that without easy reference points if you lose your place for a moment.

@Vampireandthen: What you're trying to sign up with now is pretty much a textbook example of a character I heavily recommend against playing. In fact, just from the way you describe him in your sheet so far, he nearly violates the rules. That is, since he's literally impossible to be reasoned with and from what you put is basically going to do nothing but go around being a psychopathic killer, there's hardly any difference between him and the "amorphous blob of evil that does nothing but consume" that I don't allow, besides being shaped like a person. Nobody is going to want to interact with that kind of character, as it seems like you would be doing nothing but going around inserting your guy into scenes purely to fight people; that's the kind of thing a troll who is trying to ruin other peoples' enjoyment would do.

Besides, there's no way I'm accepting "instantly an expert with anything" as an ability.

@The Starscream 759: Sorry, forgot about your response among other distractions going on in life. Anyway, your sheet seems good enough now, some typos aside.

Hercules is accepted.

Now, we're right on the cusp of transitioning to Day 20, which hopefully I will have done within the next couple of days at most, so you should wait to jump into the game until then. In the meantime, be sure to read through the first post of the main thread to see what Hercules' arrival should be like, and check through the first post of the discussion thread for things such as a description of what the city is normally like, and other helpful info and links.

  • Story: The Iron Giant
  • Name: The Iron Giant, or just the Giant
  • Age, gender, and species: A large male robot from outer space, age unknown.
  • Appearance: I AM NOT A GUN
  • Personality: The Iron Giant is the very incarnation of the Gentle Giant. He's a very playful fellow who loves Superman comics, and will never kill anyone. The Giant looks up to Superman as his ideal, and strives to be a hero like the Man of Steel. Like us, he can feel grief and sadness, valuing all life. Guns make him angry though, and he will avoid them like the plague. Docile and a bit naive, the Giant has a childlike demeanor, constantly learning about the world around him.
  • Back story: Crashing to earth sometime in the fifties during the Cold War, the Giant's exact purpose is not known.
  • Skills/powers/abilities: A bunch of alien weaponry that can level a small city. However, the Giant will never, ever, in a million years, use these weapons intentionally, so the purpose of the RP, the Giant only has his arm cannon and laser eyes. He can fly though, and has some very impressive durability, surviving a nuke even, though he was blown apart. If broken apart, he can easily put himself back together, though his parts tend to have a mind of their own.
  • Items: None.
  • Other: His size will be lowered to about 10 feet.

In all seriousness, there is a rule against characters being over or under a certain height, and would shrink/grow to accommodate said rule. The Iron Giant staying its height wouldn't be feasible, really.

@Vampireandthen: "My character would never use it ever pinky promise" is not an excuse to break the rules, because what if circumstances made someone else have control over the Iron Giant and its weapons? Breaking the rules is still breaking the rules, and having the kind of firepower to level a city and the durability to survive a nuke to the face is definitely breaking the rules.

Also your back story section is definitely not adequate unless you're having the Iron Giant be taken to the city literally right after crash landing on Earth.

  • Story: Hollow Knight

  • Name: The Hollow Knight

  • Age, gender, and species: Empty Vessel; An inhabitant of the Abyss which crawled out of it for the sole mission of containing the plague.

  • Appearance: The Hollow Knight

    • Note: it probably fits in the palm of an average human’s hand.

  • Personality: The Hollow Knight is a silent figure, incapable of speech. It has a strong determination to accomplish its goal, a mindset would one would almost say is single minded. Despite this seeming emptiness and narrowness, however, the Hollow Knight can show signs of empathy and is more than willing to help out those who are in trouble, even if doing so would tear him away from accomplishing his task. Unable to speak, most of its intentions and communications are done through either head gestures or through body language. It also has a habit of leaving a number of small geodes as payment for anyone who renders him aid or a service.

  • Back story: Crawling out of the Abyss, the Hollow Knight found itself in the city of Dirtmouth, the highest point of and the entrance to Hollownest, the great underground labyrinth.
Traversing through the Crossroads, the Hollow Knight defeated the Gruz Mother and the False Knight, obtaining the Vengeful Spirit and utilizing its abilities to defeat the beast that blocked the entrance to greenpath. Exploring the overgrown caverns, the Hollow Knight found itself drawn to and in pursuit of another bug, one with a needle and a thread.
Chasing the figure through the path, the Hollow Knight finally found itself challenged to a duel next to the remains of a predecessor. Engaging in fierce and desperate combat with the figure, revealing herself to be named Hornet, the Hollow Knight barely emerged victorious. Hornet fled, and the Hollow Knight retrieved the Mothwing Cloak from its predecessor just before a great light blinded it. What happened next, it does not know.

  • Skills/powers/abilities:
    • The Hollow Knight is skilled in swordplay, wielding the Old Nail efficiently as anyone would be able to use a sword. It is also agile in combat, jumping from platform to platform in order to avoid the assaults of its enemies.
    • Soul: The Hollow Knight is able to leech soul off of those it attacks. Utilizing the soul, it is able to either unleash it as a vengeful spirit at its enemies or it can use it to revitalize itself, although this will leave the Hollow Knight exposed for a short duration.
  • Items:
    • Old Nail: A worn down nail which the Hollow Knight uses as its main weapon. Good for both slashing and stabbing, and can somehow be stored on its back despite a lack of anything resembling a strap.
    • Mothwing Cloak: A cloak threaded with mothwing strands, it allows the Hollow Knight to dash through either the ground or the air.
    • Map and Quill: A blank map and a quill which the Hollow Knight will update with new information any chance it gets, namely whenever it is resting.

@Azure Rain: Well, I know somewhat about Hollow Knight, but I have not played it myself; thankfully, a friend of mine has. He said this all fits, other than a couple of minor errors that we presume are just typing errors. (The currency is just "geo" and it's tiny, fossilized shells, not colorful, hollow rocks. And we assume that you meant the mothwing cloak lets them travel on the ground, not through it. tongue)

So, accuracy is fine and under the circumstances there's definitely no balance issue, but that does bring me to saying that this isn't the kind of character I would really recommend. In any serious fight the Hollow Knight would be at a severe disadvantage, and that's putting it lightly. They'd be next to incapable of severely harming anyone unless he hit a weak point, and even a child would probably kill them instantly with one return blow. Plus that's not getting into the troubles of playing a mute character, and how from my experience, people seem to lose the fun of playing such characters in the long term; that he's at least intelligent and not just an animal helps, but still.

If you're really, absolutely certain you want to play this character, then that's your choice. Since I've got nothing to actually deny them over...

The Hollow Knight is accepted.

If you are going to join with them, then there is a few things you should do first. One is check out the first post of the main thread, to see what the Hollow Knight's arrival would be like. Then check out the first post of the discussion thread, to see information like the current day rules, what the city is normally like, and so on. Finally before posting, you should probably recap at least the last few pages of the main thread, so you have some idea of what's currently going on before you post.

Oh right, and one minor thing: Due to the shifting nature of the city, the map and quill isn't really going to help Hollow Knight as much as it normally would.

Cardcaptor Sakura (Manga version, post Sakura Card arc, pre Clear Card)

Name: Sakura Kinomoto

  • 12 years old
  • Human
  • Female

Appearance: [1]

Personality: Sakura describes herself as the 'peppy,' energetic sort of girl, brimming with cheerfulness and positivity. Both kind and full of determination, she's someone that is wholly dependable and is willing to lend a hand to anyone from her best friends to her annoying (her words) big brother. Her optimism is infectious, and she's as trustworthy and trusting as they come, though that makes her more than a little naive for a twelve year old girl.

While she is quite optimistic, friendly, and great to be around under most occasions, she is still just a child. Her temper can flare quite a bit, mostly in regards to purposeful jerks (much like her big brother), and she's absolutely terrified of ghosts due to an ability to sense them but not see them. Notably, while scared of ghosts, she's not afraid of magic at all, as it's something she can at least understand if not deal with on her own.

Her main hobby is athletics, though she also has a fondness for music and cooking, and is more a hands on learner than a bookworm. That being said, she has her occasional klutzy moments, mostly when she's thinking deeply on something.

Backstory: Sakura had an ordinary life with her father Fujikata and brother Toya for as long as she could remember, though she had an odd penchant for sensing things were off. That sense would cause her one day to venture to the downstairs basement and uncover a book - one that had sealed a set of powerful personifications and embodiments of magical power in the form of cards until her own latent magic had broken the seal and inadvertently freed them. The Beast of the Seal and one of the two guardians of the Clow, Cerberus (or Kero-chan, as Sakura calls him), charged her with retrieving these Clow Cards, and bestowed upon her the key that would form her Sealing Staff.

Throughout her adventures with Kero, her best friend and cousin Tomoyo, and rival turned friend turned more than friend Syaoran, Sakura managed to seal all of the Cards, while waking up and being deemed a worthy successor to Clow by Yue, the Judge of the Seal. Her adventures were not over, as she had to contend with a mysterious boy by the name of Eriol (in actuality a reincarnation of Clow) and slowly converting the Clow Cards into her very own Sakura cards, with a transformed Star Wand.

The trials and tribulations finally over, save for the occasional creative use of her Cards with Tomoyo, and with Syaoran leaving back for home but vowing to return, Sakura thought her life would finally return to normal.

Skills/Powers/Abilities:

  • Magic Sense: Having at this point years of experience dealing with magic and her own rapidly growing magical power, Sakura has an innate ability to detect magic near her. It often comes off as a sort of feeling or emotion, whether it be warm and fuzzy or unsettling and offputting.
  • Athleticism: Sakura is quite athletic for her age, being a star member of her school's cheerleading squad and having talent with roller blades that she uses to get around places when she's not using magic.
  • Sewing and Knitting: While nowhere near as talented in the arts and crafts as her best friend Tomoyo, Sakura is able to make passable garments and accessories such as scarves, yukatas, and even stuffed animals given enough time to work on them.
  • Cooking: For a twelve year old, Sakura is a good cook, mainly preferring pancakes or Western styled desserts though she is capable of cooking basic Japanese dishes as well.

Items:

  • Star Wand: Normally worn in its inert form as a stylized key with a large star in the center of it, upon Sakura's invocation of 'Release,' it turns into a pink, baton sized object, with one end being tipped by a large hollow circle with a star suspended on the inside and bordered by a pair of white, angelic wings on the outside. It's through this staff that Sakura invokes the power of her Cards, and if need be, seals them.

  • Sakura Cards: The mainstay of Sakura's power as a magic user, these cards embody various personifications of concepts or elements that she can invoke for various purposes. While potent, the true strength of the Cards fully shines when used in creative, unorthodox ways.
It should be noted that all of the Cards tend to have a harder time working on those who have even innate magical capability, and even those without it can skillfully avoid or otherwise circumvent their effects when clever enough. Furthermore all of their effects, save for Mirror, only last as long as Sakura has the Star Wand in its activated form,

    List of the Cards
  • The Windy [2]: The first Card Sakura captured, Windy has a gentle and friendly disposition and is disdainful of fighting. As its name implies, it has control over winds and air, giving off a solid yellow-greenish glow where its effect resides. As it is both a passive, yet a powerful card given its hierarchy in the set, it is used to restrain or repel targets with currents of wind as opposed to direct offensive action.
  • The Wood [3]: Second of the cards that Sakura caught, and one of the few that was sealed of its own volition. Like Windy, is gentle and passive, though its ability to grow a full grown tree in a matter of seconds, and to do so again with an interval of a similar length between growths can cause some unintended damage to the immediate environment. Its plant growth is augmented by water, but once dispelled, all of the growth it made is dispelled too.
  • The Jump [4]: Third card Sakura caught. Is notable for being powerful and quite aggressive, having prodigious... well, jumping power, but is also quite stupid. Is used as a fast mode of movement when Fly would otherwise be unusable, able to clear two or three stories in a single bound. Its presence is notable by a pair of translucent wing like appendages sprouting on each of Sakura's ankles when invoked.
  • The Fly [5]: Fourth card Sakura caught, and the first she caught 'on-screen' in the manga. Originally, it sprouted white feathered wings from the head of the Sealing Staff to allow Sakura to fly around. The Sakura Card version instead sprouts these wings from her back, giving her the appearance of an angel, and more importantly allowing her to use the Star Wand (and thus the other cards) while using Fly. Its primary, obvious use, is its fast mode of locomotion and offering three-dimensional movement in tight situations.
  • The Watery [6]: Card number five on the list, and the second elemental card. Watery is the personification of water, capable of manipulating the stuff and adding it to its own body. Naturally, it absorbs water attacks, though it does not seem to be able to create water out of the blue. Its capture is a note of interest: while magical, the Cards are in fact susceptible to mundane factors, as Watery could only be sealed after being frozen in a walk in freezer.
  • The Illusion [7]: The first card that endangered Sakura's own life before sealing, Illusion as an image that she commands it to, or can appear as the image of something a chosen target has a strong emotional attachment to, whether that be love or fear. Notably, Illusion seems unable to create anything other than a visual effect, as opposed to Mirror which can flawlessly replicate an appearance.
  • The Flower [8]: A whimsical, playful and sprightly soul that loves festivals, Flower may seem like a joke, as it can only create flowers, not even other kinds of plant like like Wood. It can create any manner of flower Sakura wishes, provided she knows about it, otherwise it will create them at random. Given some herbalistic effects of various flowers, this may not be as useless as it seems.
  • The Sword [9]: A Card that is as violent as its form implies, the Sword was capable of possessing weak minded people before being sealed. Under Sakura's control, Sword gives her the skills of a master swordsman, and has immense cutting power and durability, especially given its form of a rapier. Sakura rarely uses this card, as her job is more often to seal or diffuse magic as opposed to fighting opponents.
  • The Thunder [10]: Another aggressive, temperamental card, Thunder bestows Sakura the ability to control and generate electricity and light, useful against darkness. It's also shown to be able to stretch its influence across multiple objects in a small area and power them, enough to give street lamps bright enough light to cut through Shadow.
  • The Shadow [11]: More chaotic and mischievous than malevolent, Shadow has the power to steal the shadows of others (be they objects or people) one at a time to grow its body and reach, allowing it to entangle and ensnare foes or pools of darkness. It works best at night as any bright light, including normal daylight or a strong flashlight, will bore a hole straight through its mass and reveal its core body.
  • The Mirror [12]: One of the more complex cards at Sakura's disposal, Mirror shows a nuanced, human like personality like a child, and has two distinct functions. The first and most used is to act as Sakura's doppelganger, perfectly nailing appearance, voice, and personality, though it can be seen through by anyone possessing latent magic. Additionally, Mirror can reflect ranged attacks, provided they're magical in nature and it's invoked in time.
  • The Shield [13]: One of the few good-natured cards, Shield has a stubborn, 'stodgy' personality, in line with its power. It can create an incredibly resilient, immovable, air-tight barrier capable of holding three to five group of people snugly inside. The barrier can shrug off normal level magical and physical attacks from both the interior and exterior, though notably stronger attacks can compromise its integrity. Notably, this grants limited protection to some indirect hazards as well, provided an airtight seal can keep them at bay.
  • The Loop [14]: One of the most unusual cards, even for the Sakura Cards, is the Loop. Wholly indifferent to everything, it creates a localized barrier marked by a thin red line all around the ground and other surfaces it's applied to. Attempting to cross this line from the inside will simply result to being transported to the direct opposite side of the barrier, stepping over that portion of the boundary back inside (think a side scrolling platformer that loops its beginning and end points and you have how Loop works). Successfully disrupting the line - either with magic equipment or destroying the surface it's on - will manage to dispel it. The world from both inside and outside the barrier does look a little off, usually due to the edges where Loop's boundary lays not matching real space.
  • The Erase [15]: Erase, while originally potent, seems to have a different effect in the Lost City, much to Sakura's surprise. Quite simply, invoking its power will dispel the effects of magic on a target she designates, making it handy for quite a few applications. It's only applicable to single targets and doesn't distinguish between beneficial or detrimental magical effects, so it also needs to be used carefully.
  • The Glow [16]: One of the more pleasant cards, similar to Flower in disposition, Glow's only effect is to scatter orbs of light in an area. This is quite useful both as a distraction and to softly light up an area without risking damage. Due to its area of effect, it could also theoretically be used to fall on invisible objects or potentially create different kinds of light if the need arises.
  • The Firey [17]: One of the elemental cards, Firey is powerful and aggressive, but even more so mischievous. It is wholly capable of creating and controlling flames, as well as absorbing them, but it is to be used with care. It will purposefully try to scare, backfire or even harm the user or those around her while doing what it was asked to do.
  • The Earthy [18]: The last card Sakura captured, Earthy tends to have a patient, ostensibly gentle disposition compared to its direct counterpart, Firery. Capable of manipulating large boulder sized chunks of earth and stone at a time, it too needs to be used responsibly as moving the wrong piece of earth can cause far more trouble than it was worth. It is thought that while Firey is impulsive, emotional, and quick to forget, Earthy is the type to hold onto grudges.
