In 1949, it was Natsume Kimitana, mistress of the Shadow Crane style. In 1722, it was Master Beaucant with his furious Burly Style, a man said to fight bears and tigers in the jungle. Every few generations, there comes fighters who will go down in history as the strongest and the fastest, and there is only one competition, one contest that matters to truly decide who is the King of Combat.

Dear Sir or Madam,

We offer you my sincerest congratulations! You are one of the few fighters selected to be cordially invited to the most televised elite martial arts tournament in the world, Bout Island! You've show skill, strength, and unique charisma, and we've decided you belong here! Surely you've heard of the most watched, more profitable event in all of history. If, for some odd reason that you don’t know what Bout Island is, then allow us to educate you. Taking place one every 25 years, this tournament takes place on our immaculate island resort, built and cultivated specifically for the tournament. The island itself is part of archipelagic nation called Lemuria, famed for having a rather interesting mix of cultures from virtually everywhere around the world but the truly unique thing about it is that every martial arts ever conceived in the world are celebrated and practiced in this tropical paradise and Bout Island is the mecca of it, filled to the brim with top of the line gyms with various masters of their respective masteries of martial arts with tons of equipment to keep the fighters at their tip top shape.

The structure of the tournament is a round robin with a single elimination at the end. You will be fighting with each unique fighters twice, earning a point for every win. The ones with most points will move on to a more traditional single eliminations, with quarterfinals, semi-finals and finals. Fights are not scheduled, and any contestants can agree when and where they wish to fight. This event is broadcast and streamed in almost every country in the world, with our state of the art technology, not just your clashes, but also your successes, your loves, your fears, your laughs and your entire life on the island will be televised 24 hours a day, 7 days a week! Here, you are not just a fighter, but a celebrity, a veritable superstar of unmatched proportions. As you get this Invitation, many of the worlds influential companies will be notified, and you will most likely hear from dozens, possibly hundreds of corporations looking to sponsor you in the tournament. This is not just a formality, but also a well-loved tradition, and having at least one sponsor is mandatory for entry. And to encourage entertainment and excitement for our viewers, no television or internet is available for contestants during their stay on the island.

Of course, this being a resort island in any other time in the world, you should enjoy your stay there as well! We have 5 star hotels and restaurants to cater to your every whim, though if you prefer a more homely atmosphere, there are plenty of food stalls and food centres serving good ol' local foods as well. We have the most beautiful beaches in the world to relax in the sun and play as well as the jungles containing the exotic wildlife and botanical area. We have events planned for the holidays, and other things to keep your stay exciting when you aren't kicking and punching each other! Most importantly, however, try and be civil to your martial artists, any violent outburst unto them will be on grounds for your own Disqualification and dealing with the island Law Enforcement.

Now, the part you've really been waiting for. What exactly is your reward? A fabled prize, of which many rumors abound, but few can varify. But those who are in the know will tell you it's all real. The winner of the Bout Island tournament will recieve the grand, once in a lifetime prize of a single wish, able to give you absolutely anything in the world you desire. (Except for more wishes, of course)

Again, it is our proud honor to invite you to the Island. This tournament has been run for many centuries, going through different forms and iterations and periods of stagnation. But the one thing that never changes is the heart and soul of the fighters who come here. The determination and skill exhibited is what keeps the tournament alive, and we hope to see that from you!

With the best of luck, Bout Island Corp.

Hey there, guys, welcome to the Bout Island Tournament RP, run by Saturn and sgtpendulum. As you could probably guess, this is a martial arts RP with a simple goal of winning the tournament. You will be playing as a colorful fighter of your creation, using a specific kind of Martial Art that you describe. Like what the above said, it’ll be structured as a round robin, followed by a single elimination finals with a week in between matches to give time for exploration of the island and relationships. We’re trying to aim for a light tone, though that don’t mean some darkness here and there are not welcome, just try and not allow it to consume the whole RP. The tone and style will be reminiscent of Street Fighter. Speaking of Street Fighter, the typical power level we're going for is between 1 and 2 Super Weight, meaning there might be a hadouken here and there if it somewhat makes sense.

Also, as weird as it is, don’t put too much emphasis on the actual fighting part. This is because, from what we've observed, a fighting-centric RP tends to fall apart due to too much arguing on who’ll win the fight or not. Instead, we’re going to put more emphasis on the character relationships and development to reflect and explore on martial arts more philosophical complexes. With that being said, do not be an almighty god of martial arts that manages to dodge and counter every shots and hit every shots of their own, losing is a part of learning and interesting character development. Have you ever had your ass handed to you by silver platter by a better opponent? I had that feels and it feels awesome, in a humbling way. Also, weapons are illegal on the island, no guns, no swords, nothing of a sort, we wanted to keep it unarmed.

Oh, and this is set in the near future, 20XX style. We’ll have hoverboards, holograms and floating cameras, that also means commercialization will be rampaging and that’s no doubt your fighter will get infected by capitalism and get sponsored by fake companies. Fake because we think it’s more interesting to allow the players to make up the histories behind their sponsorship. Go light on the conspiracy and drama, though because, again, we’re going light on this one. This also means your character are streamed 24/7 might get hit with interviews and press conference every once in a while. You are practically a star in this world.

As for rules, we decided that the fighters should discuss what goes foul in the ring and both have to agree to the set of rule. Unconventional but we believe it might make the matches more interesting. As for judging system, if the fight goes on for 3 rounds, we’ll be the judges. The players who makes puts better thought and research onto their martial arts and if their actions makes sense and have proper cause and effect wins.

Any other questions, you can ask us.

  • Name: Alissa ‘Ali’ Traylor (pronounced as ay-lee instead of the conventional Ah-lee)
  • Gender: female
  • Age: 21
  • Nationality: Britain
  • Occupation: She don't have a job, inbetween matches and training she'll usually stay at her dad's home and play with six of her brothers or just being a NEET, shit talking at other players when she beats them at a fighting game or shit talk other people on social media, along with curling DMs, of course.
  • Physical Appearance: 165cm tall or 5'5"for the yanks. She has blonde shoulder length unkempt hair with blue eyes and an ottermode build. If she's not wearing a boxing uniform, she usually sported on a basketball jersey and shorts. She does not play basketball, she just loves the airy comfy feeling.
  • Personality: Ali was a very aggressive person who will take on a quick violent option if there is one and she does not care what the public says about her as long as she managed to get to fighting and follow through with her disses. When it comes to losses, however, she's at least tried to be a cool loser about it, even if meant congratulating her opponent through her gritted, broken teeth. Currently, she has no philosophy, which is okay for a girl in her 20s but her lack of actual place in the world other than fame and fighting has been gnawing on to the back of her head for a while now. Oh, and she likes Jackass, all 3 of their movies and have a taste for energy drinks.
  • Martial Arts Style: SMG Boxing. While she still can do other methods of boxing if necessary, rushing the opponent down with flurries of hooks and uppercuts at incredible speed as well as incorporating uncommon moves like overhead right, which she uses periodically against anyone taller than her, which is virtually everyone. She's also quite at adept at defence like the standard blocking, slipping, pulling away and bobbing and weaving, she like the last one because she's short enough to make it easy enough on herself. her signature move was the 'Cycle of uppercuts', where she gets up close to an opponent and then hammer onto their chest or chin with uppercuts with speeds that could be used on a speedbag.
  • Sponsorship:
    • Horror Energy drinks: Initially a homebrew drink created by Ali's eldest brother so that he can deal with his uni's project, now a rising star company in the realm of food and beverages industry, popular across europe and that's starting to sill over transatlantic and to Asia. Currently they're the leading alternative 'edgy' go-to brand for energy drinks with tons of spins on it like zero sugar, Flexing Horror, Horror Borror etc.
  • History:
    • Ali was born to a celebrity parents, her mother was a fashion designer turned drama queen public figure of Britain when the media decided to film a reality TV series called 'Living in the Traylor' and her father was a famous actor. She has 4 brothers when she born and by the time when she was 10, she got 6. Naturally, with this much exposure to boyhood, she soon got into their shits as well, despite her mum's wish to make her daughter more feminine. Ali's favourite past-time was emulating Jackass with her brothers as well as good ol rough-housing and get chased by a poo on a stick.
    • Ali soon got into the world of physical sport at the age of 12 when the executive of the show thought that it would make the ratings go boom if the kids tried out something wacky and new like boxing. Out of the families that tried it out for a month or so, she's the most consistent and improved fighter and she has insisted on continuing training ever since. She didn't really took it that serious, though, just thought of it as a fun game and cardio.
    • When Ali was 14, however, her parents had a falling out and arguing with each other for god knows what reason, Ali never really bothered to ask then because the drama is per normal and she did not really bothered to ask now because she has lost respect for both of them when they signed a divorce paper. On the day of the signing, she realized one important detail, her brother did not care as well. They are all doing their own thing with their own successes and realized her own self-worth and how much she lacks it and the only thing going for her is boxing. So she dropped out of school and go all out on her boxing training, entering numerous tournaments in Britain and later across Europe.
    • Her rise to the top was described as sudden and weird because people have never seen a style so aggressive, suicidal and deadly than Ali's unique style of SMG boxing, becoming a rising star in amateur league to the professional league in the boxing world in the women's division. Of course such style cost her losses as well but she did not mind the pain as much anymore, besides, it makes her more determined to beat down her opponent. During that time, she picked up a sponsor from her brother when she heard that they too were suffering financially.
    • Her real shot to power was when she started to pick on the guys and she too prevailed in the matches as well. The one legendary match that got her recognized by Bout Island Corporation was her victory against Malford Murray, a long standing lightweight champion of Ultimate Boxing Federation. He have commented numerous times in interviews that 'an ex-celebrity attention whore' like her shouldn't go around and beating people up with her awful style. She responded a couple days later with "Come at me, bruh. You win, I quit the entire industry, I win, I take your fucking belt." Malford accepted and the match was held the day after. Ali won.
    • The media absolutely lauded her with praise and congratulations, people have been gossiping about the Traylor's rise back to fame and even rumours of her parents getting back together to cash in on the success but all Ali cared for is her fight and the letter she has gotten.
  • Theme Music: Snowing-I Think We're In Minsk

  • Name: Leanne "Leah" Davenport
  • Gender: F
  • Age: 29
  • Nationality: Born Tucson, Arizona. Registered citizen of Guam.
  • Occupation: Private Military Contractor
  • Physical Appearance: Built. Leanne isn't very tall, only 5'2", but is more or less entirely muscle. She dyed her hair blue in preparation for Bout Island. She wears heavy military cargo pants, and combat boots, and the grenades on her waist as part of her Military Aesthetic Branding. They're actually full of various healthy foods to stay well-fed and in shape while on the move.
  • Personality: Leanne is someone who thinks about fighting a lot. She doesn't have many hobbies outside of writing, mostly in the form of short stories and essays. Her writing ranges anywhere from trashy romance to essays about the best ways to work out on a budget, but it always reflects on her tendency to think inwards, rather than outwards. She prefers to keep conversation light and fun, dodging away whenever she senses a conversation getting hostile or upsetting. She thinks that fighting is essentially some kind of parallel dimension to normal life. You fight for your country, or your paycheck, but whatever it is you should get what you need or at least make it out alive and then stop being in combat. Being a soldier for a PMC means fighting so that you can get money to live comfortably, something that's hard to do in this day and age. PTSD, and the possibility that she has it, worries her greatly, but again she prefers to just dodge away from that whole issue by having fun and making sure that there's always a counseling office within a few hours away. The Tai Chi helps that a lot. It's fun and intense, and the philosophy behind it keeps Leah wondering about who's in power where, who's attacking and who's defensive.
  • Martial Arts Style: T'ai Chi Ch'uan, in particular [[https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sun-style_t'ai_chi_ch'uan Sun-style,]] which emphasizes defensive maneuvering which transitions into throws and the occasional singular strike, but only once the opponent's force has been met and neutralized. Of course, Leah has also added her own spin with the Embargo Blow. If Leah can strike an attacker's joints with precision and concentration—really only achieved when they are in a grab or severely stunned—she can temporarily paralyze a limb from the joint up to the extremity of the limb. This lasts for at most a full minute, after which the limb is movable but numb for an hour—which could be good or bad, depending on the fighter!
  • Sponsorship: The Silent Mastodons, a PMC operating off of an artificial island in the Pacific Ocean. They specialize in surgical strikes, assassinations, and guerilla warfare, using small units in specific locations to maximize the value of single soldiers, as well as the value of the person ordering the contract. They typically work for small island nations or maritime enclaves in the Pacific ocean, and have a strong brand and presence there as a result.
  • History:
    • Leanne grew up in Tucson, Arizona, a hot, dry town with very little to do. Her parents were factory workers, and as she grew up she thought that would be her fate too. Thing was, that wasn't going to fly with her. Instead, she did the other thing kids in dead-end towns do: signed up for the military at 18. Basic training was rough, especially on Leanne's small frame, but she pushed herself as hard as possible, ignoring pain and injury until it became literally impossible to take on whatever challenge the CO was putting her unit through at the time. Her firey will seemed to push her body harder, making her recover from overworking herself days before she should have been out of the infirmary.
    • She was eventually deployed to real combat in a peacekeeping solidarity operation in China, both as combatants to help quell a terrorist insurgency, and as one of hundreds of beige-clad symbols that the United States was willing to lend a hand to its rival. Leanne almost felt like she could breathe in the politics, smell it like the cordite as she breached yet another stronghold. Leanne's career abruptly ended when she took a shotgun blast to the stomach, and she recovered in a hospital there. Here was where she made her first contact with Tai Chi, from a Physical Therapy teacher who was also a former guest on Bout Island. The exercise was intense, but rewarding; it hearkened back to her days struggling out of ICU beds and out onto the regularly scheduled track races with both arms in full casts. One of her fellow PT participants saw her hard work and offered her a different job: security contracting.
    • Faced with better wages in a more welcoming environment, Leanne quit and instead signed on with The Silent Mastodons to do some work in the Pacific. Between contracts she maintained her practice in Tai-Chi, refining it with her own twists on the practice. She went to tournaments when she could between tours of duty, before finally getting some renown by winning the Fist Of Guam Fighting Circuit Gold Title Crown a few years ago. When she received the invitation to Bout Island, Leanne knew just who to go to for sponsors: The Silent Mastodons. They agreed wholeheartedly and let their girl go off to represent them, with Leanne promising to come back to them with some good fights under her belt.

This sounds fun. Here we go...

  • Name: "Situational" Seth Stiles
  • Gender: Male
  • Age: 18
  • Nationality: American (Las Vegas, Nevada)
  • Occupation: Guitarist for Drown the Captain, underground fighter
  • Physical Appearance: Five foot ten and slim, but decently muscular for his body type. He has shoulder-length black hair and green eyes. Whether he's in or out of a fight, he's usually wearing a band T-shirt and/or Los Angeles Dodgers jersey, black jeans, fingerless gloves (MMA ones during fights, of course) and black Chuck Taylors. To keep his hair out of his face, he wears a backwards Dodgers hat, but even if—or, more typically, when—it comes off, he doesn't mind his hair getting in his face. When he walks up to the ring, he wears a black leather jacket with his name, rendered in the style of his favorite band's logo, prominently displayed on the back. Once he's in, however, the jacket comes off, and he doesn't wear it unless it's time to fight.
  • Personality: Outside the ring, Seth generally acts like his body produces caffeine on its own, and if he's in an interesting enough conversation, he can talk for hours. He usually comes off as a typical teenager who just happens to be an up-and-coming fighter. Inside the ring, however, he's notably more serious, channeling all that energy into fighting like his life depends on it—probably because it has on several occasions. The resulting emotions people read off of him are confidence, rage, or Tranquil Fury, and it's in that third state of mind where he fights at his best.
  • Philosophy: Seth strongly values authenticity, to the point where he initially hesitated to take on corporate sponsorships. Even now, he prefers to let sponsors come to him and only accepts their offers if he already likes their product or service, which is how he picked his sponsor for the tournament. This means the two kinds of people he absolutely can't stand are sellouts and cheaters, and he's not afraid to call out either type of person as such. He also believes that people are meant to pursue their passions and excel at what they love to do. For Seth, that translates into him practicing on his guitar and training to fight every day, and if he's offered a lesson in either one of those things from someone better at it, he always accepts.
  • Martial Arts Style: Seth fights using what he calls Concrete Jungle Style, a mix between boxing and capoeira. Typically, he uses capoeira's movement techniques, including a healthy amount of flips, to create distance or to misdirect his opponent, then punishes mistakes with a kick or punch. As fights progress, however, Seth begins to demonstrate why he's called "Situational" Seth: his ability to drop formal technique for a bit and just improvise his way out of a tight spot using his instincts and surroundings. This gift for improvisation has saved him from taking any serious injuries since the start of his career as a fighter. Finally, when he senses his opponent is about to run out of gas, he uses a clothesline tackle he calls "the Guillotine" to take his opponent down.
  • Sponsorship: Russian Roulette Records, an independent Las Vegas-based record label for punk bands of various types. Seth's band was already signed to the label, so it was only natural for them to sponsor him in the tournament.
  • History:
    • From a young age, Seth Stiles was into punk rock. It didn't matter what kind it was, as long as it was loud and fast. He grew up on a steady diet of the Sex Pistols, the Offspring, Blink-182, NOFX, and whatever else he could find, but his favorite band was Escape the Fate because they, like Seth, were from Vegas.
    • For his ninth birthday, his parents gave him his first guitar, and he immediately fell in love with playing it. He never took formal lessons, but he did start learning as many of his favorite songs as he possibly could. At age sixteen, he formed a post-hardcore band called Drown the Captain with his friends, where he plays guitar and shares vocal duties with the bassist and the other guitarist. So far, they haven't played a show outside of the Vegas area.
    • When he was fifteen, he went to a house show, not expecting trouble to show up. That trouble came in the form of two skinheads who went into the mosh pit with brass knuckles. The crowd was mostly high schoolers, and not many of them were big enough to muscle the skinheads out of the show. When they turned their attention on Seth, he knew he had to fight back, or it would be the last show he ever went to.
    • With a mix of low blows, a lot of dodging, and sheer dumb luck, Seth managed to hold them both off long enough for a bunch of other concert-goers to surprise the skinheads with a baseball bat and get them out of there. It was during that fight that Seth realized he actually enjoyed fighting. But fighting at punk shows didn't seem like his thing, so he started taking lessons in boxing and capoiera.
    • After a year and a half of training, Seth heard about an MMA event in his neighborhood with cash prizes and decided to try his luck. To even his own surprise, he won his first fight and made $400. That got him thinking about fighting as a source of income, so he started entering in other tournaments.
    • Soon enough, "Situational" Seth was considered a rising star in the Nevada underground fighting circuit. He earned the nickname after a fight at a boxing gym where Seth repeatedly threw himself at the ropes and bounced off in order to dodge attacks. Then, the owner of a local MMA gym found Seth and gave him a shot against sanctioned MMA fighter Joe Karma on the Las Vegas Strip.
    • The fight turned out to be a clash of styles. At first, it seemed Seth's lack of training with grappling was going to keep him from victory, but once he learned to read when Joe was going for a grab, he was able to start countering and dodging effectively. Three rounds and one application of the Guillotine later, Seth won the match, $7,000 in prize money, and—much to his surprise—an invitation to the Bout island Tournament. As it turned out, the gym owner worked for the Bout Island Corporation, and he was looking for an up-and-coming talent to send into the tournament. Seth, with his victory, clinched that title.
    • Right around this time, Drown the Captain's demo made its way to Russian Roulette Records, and the label thought it was good enough to sign the band. Upon discovering one of their talent was about to enter the tournament, they offered to sponsor him, which he accepted. The deal also secured the band a televised performance on Bout Island.
    • Now, Seth finds himself on the verge of his big break in two major ways. But can he be a fighter and a rock star at the same time, or is he going to have to choose between the two things he most loves to do?
  • Theme Music: "The Webs We Weave" by Escape the Fate
  • Misc: If Seth ever gets into fighting game special move territory, it'll be one of Guile's special moves.
