Have a feeling the plot and setting of this game is going to resemble the film 10,000 BC. It's the only way they'll manage to avoid the repetition of a hunter-gatherer lifestyle from setting in, or allowing players to discover more advanced or sophisticated human settlements and inventions.

That's my feeling too. There's gotta be something deeper happening here.

Because don't get me wrong, the cave man survival thing sounds pretty cool but I don't think there's anywhere near enough content there for a full $60 release.

Oh really when?

I actually rather enjoyed using bows to take out camps. I just hated how they were practically useless later on in the last two Far Cry games when human enemies started to get more armor. Unless you are very good at getting headshots it takes 2 or more arrows to take out one Mook with armor. At that point in the game you would have a really powerful sniper rifle that when you equipped it with a silencer would out perform a bow in being a silent killer.

I am rather curious on how the human camps will work in this game....

I forgot about the crafting system (probably because I was never really fond to fond of crafting in any game)

Watching the trailer and the general theme of the game reminded me of the pretty good King Kong game by Ubisoft and all the spear-throwing, tip-lighting, animal-baiting shenanigans that went on there. Granted that game had plenty o' guns and such (and dinosaurs and giant centipedes and etc), but that's where my mind went.

Wonder what other fauna/megafauna we will be seeing in the game, as well as what other sorts of equipment you'll be getting.

Megafauna we've seen thus far:

  • Woolly mammoths
  • Saber-toothed cat (Not sure what species since it's likely taking place in Ice Age Europe.)
  • Cave bear
  • The woolly rhino Elasmotherium, aka the unicorn

Extant fauna:

  • Red deer
  • Grey wolves

Also, I'm pretty sure it's gonna involve some ancient spirits or something like that.

EDIT: Created its trope page.

There wasn't an Elasmotherium. There was a woolly rhino, but it was a Woolly Rhino. ''Elasmotherium'' has one big ass horn. The one seen in the video has two relatively smaller horns.

The saber-tooth is probably Homotherium, though I don't know enough about them to tell if the model is designed after it or Smilodon.

Strikes me as being recycled assets from the fantasy sequence of Far Cry 4. The game coming in Feb'16, strikes me as being too short a window between announcment and release. So I'd say it's a smaller quieter game.

[up]It was probably in development way before the announcement. And Blood Dragon did already re-use some slightly modified assets anyway.

Also the game is actually coming out in 23 not 16, just letting ya know.

[up] It's coming out in 2016... probably 23rd of Feb yes, but not 2023. I mean, I get Ubisoft are pretty insane about hype building, but 8 years in advance?!

It does seem a bit like ARK but single player, so I wonder how in depth the "survival" elements will be. Probably rudimentary crafting like the other Far Cry's, a smaller open world, due to lack of fast cross-world travel.

I bet we get Woolly Mammoth riding though.

I do expect a twist, that this is ACTUALLY the far future and we find an abandoned cache of guns.

[up][up]That wouldn't explain the return of all the ancient animals that went extinct during the end of the ice age.

The press release stated "Sabertooth tiger", so it's likely Smilodon.

Except Smilodon was only found in the Americas, while the Americas never had woolly rhinos.

I'm gonna use that as proof that the entire game is secretly an alien conspiracy or time travel bullshit or related to drugs.

They didn't say Smilodon, just "sabertooth tigers", which is basically a catchall phrase for "sabertooth cats".

Misplaced Wildlife? Or, since it's technically a fictional land, they could be using non-European species.

Yes, the location is "Oros". I thought it could be just an alternative Earth, but they've been doing heavy research on prehistoric man.

I wonder if there will be Neanderthals. Since it takes place after the Ice Age, they could be extinct.

It takes place in 10,000 BC, so Neanderthals would be extinct by then. (It's believed they went extinct between 41,000 and 39,000 years ago, so long before the events of Primal.)

Yes there were wooly mammoth populations in the Americas. For gods sake they found two in Wisconsin. They were mostly in the Canadian part of North America.
