I really liked this episode. Julis character was nicely fleshed out along with her backstory, and the reason for getting money is not nearly as contrived as I feared it would be. Julis is really a fun heroine, she has just the right amount of badassery, spunk and kindness that I enjoy. And her interactions with Ayato are fun to see. They have great chemistry and show genuine sympathy and respect for each other. And as Zelenal said, a love interest that matches the hero badassery is always welcome. Honestly the other girls seem a little superfluous.

So Julis went to what is obviously a trap, and Ayato went to back her up. Since Ayato problems with multiple opponents were mentioned he'll hopefully won't clean the house himself, and them fighting together there will give them idea to team up for the tournament.

Can't wait for the next episode, this is getting exciting. grin

Claudia is so obviously being fake and manipulative that I can't even take her seriously.

Yes, because villains are never in the opening. tongue

She's obviously plotting. The question is what she's plotting, and how that aligns to the heroes and villains.

Standard operating practice is that she's plotting with the villains in order to protect her little sister or something, then the Macguffin gets saved and she can properly ally herself with the harem.

Alternatively, what she's plotting isn't strictly aligned with either side and thus it'll seem like she switches sides every so often.

Alternatively alternatively, what she's plotting seems completely separate from the main plot and causes friction with the heroes when she goes off to do her thing rather than help them. Either the heroes then learn that what she's doing actually is important to the main plot or Ayato/someone else decides to help her and this ends up paying off in some way later despite setting them back now.

I'm not sure whatever Claudia is good or evil, for all we know she's planning to bring down the corrupted system from within. But that she's using manipulation to achieve her goals is pretty obvious.

Also, I bet it'll turn out that her soft spot is that she actually does think of Julis as her friend.

Episode 4, where we get a fight scene.

Animation was...mediocre, I was honestly expecting a bit more dynamism, but it was mostly stills as things fell apart. It get mildly better near the end fortunately.

So Ayato's sister sealed his power....cuz reasonz? Hilariously, its yet another aspect it shares with Rakudai with the MC tiring himself out using his power.

So we get what basically amounts to a Relationship Upgrade for them...only to introduce a new girl next episode.....yup.

Oh Claudia and Ayato's bro are in on this, as shady as ever, but you bein plaaayed :V

And wow, series just upped and forgot about Lester and Saya huh, oh well.

Normally my instincts would tell me to drop this series now considering how lackluster things have been.....but I wanna see how things turn out for the cour.

I quite liked episode 4 with the main characters actually making some progress with their relationship little by little. Claudia is getting creepier as the series goes on and newspaper guy being on her side is quite interesting. I am amused by the continuing parallels with Rakudai Kishi No Eiyuutan as well.

I'm hoping this is because they are saving their budget for the end of arc battles.

Given the studio's past record with amazingly animated fight scenes, they are undoubtedly saving their budget for the big fights and I am okay with this. Besides, this method gives the impression that Ayato's moving insanely fast which is cool.

All in all, I really enjoyed this episode. The reason Ayato's sister sealed his powers will be revealed in time and there'll almost undoubtedly be a damn good one. I found the fact that Ayato wrecked their shit while carrying Julis to be rather impressive. The fire dragon and epic wings were also impressive. The wings thing in particular showed that they are going to be a force to be reckoned with in the Phoenix Festa. That scene with the two of them on the roof was absolutely adorable.

While it's true that they're introducing the next girl in the next episode, I seriously doubt that she'll actually be competition. After all, Ayato hasn't shown interest in anyone other than Julis. There's little reason to believe that will change. However, I'm somewhat expecting that new girl and Ayato will end up fighting together and be an amazing team which will make Julis doubt herself. I kinda hope I'm wrong.

This episode left with one burning question: What happened to Lester?

It looks like Yabuki and Claudia are the school's black ops, willing to do shady shit for the school's sake.

Julis is pretty good.

I actually liked how the fight was done, the dolls just falling down after being cut too fast see was badass.

But, last episode Ayato said he was bad against groups, and now he wipes out a small army. Talk about Red Herring. But I guess they needed to show off his amazing forbidden technique. Speaking of which, Ayato's sister better have a good reason for sealing that shit, and not just wanting to be the one doing the protecting.

But to the main point - Ayato is smooth as hell, he just told Julis straight up that she's the most important thing in his life. Okay, big applause that was an awesome way to get and Relationship Upgrade. And I also like how Julis pushed him into talking about his sister. No stupidly held secrets here.

This anime doesn't even pretend that other girls matter.

That Claudia is kinda sinister was obvious from the start, but Yabuki actually caught me off-guard.

Good episode, after watching this I'm completely sold on continuing the series till the end.

Well, to be fair, it seems like he's bad at fighting multiple enemies without using his special powers. They seem to give him something bordering a Flash Step so it makes sense.

[up][up]I hope that he won't spam his power every fight, I bet it would get pretty repetitive after a time. I'd rather see him pull off some sweet teamwork with Julis.

Oh and next episode will be about convincing the #1 student to participate in the tournament. I guess Ayato and Julis will help, but I honestly can't see what motivation they could have in getting such a strong opponent to show up.

[up]It's so nice having a main character who doesn't constantly put his foot in the mouth.

While the similarities between this show and Rakudai are hilarious, I feel the need to point out that this came first by almost a year.

I don't think any copying is going on, though. It's likely just a high amusing coincidence.

Episode 4. In which there are dolls.

Julis is just standing there? I find it one of the most common time errors. If two characters are fighting, nothing else happens elsewhere. It's often implied other characters are getting involved with other things, but when the story tries to chain the events consecutively it breaks because it leaves a space during the fight where the other characters aren't doing anything.

I might be miscaculating slightly, but I think they're outnumbered.

Not sure a grace would hurt that much in the heat of the battle. There wasn't even any indication of the hit after that close-up.

There he comes. Was there anyone not waiting for him? And can't have him actually keep a weakness previously established.

There are 128 of them.

About time for her to do something.

Hello, Claudia. For some reason, I got thinking of the Matchless Smiling Monster.

Nice bonding. Heavy on The Dulcinea Effect, but eh, sure.

How did he rise up?

Let's pile up the conspiracies!

Hilariously, its yet another aspect it shares with Rakudai with the MC tiring himself out using his power.
And I find this variant more arbitrary. As in, it's a way of making him not fight at his full capacity all the time, rather than as something that lets him briefly max out on his abilities without that max being his natural standard.

Claudia is getting creepier as the series goes on...
That's a good thing. She's more amusing as creepy than the usual happy, genki, busty harem girl.

I found the fact that Ayato wrecked their shit while carrying Julis to be rather impressive.
I found Ayato wrecking shit good, but carrying Julis meaninglessly damselling her. She had a tiny scratch in her leg, and that completely incapacitated her? If it's supposed to be more than that, at least show more damage than that.

I am kind of wondering why his sister put that limiter on him to begin with; nothing really suggested anything about his power needed to be sealed.

[up] To be fair, Julis insisted he put her down, but I guess he wanted to feel like a man...and feel up her thigh.

Or if she didn't really mind hugging him for a while. I'd like to have seen more portrayal of that, though. Overall I found it overplaying his power, though. It was a little too chuuni hero, and not only removed any and all doubt he was going to win flawlessly, but also jarred me out of the story.
