(Is seriously hoping it'll look like SBFF.)

EDIT: Important update! In case you guys are worried this'll be a continuation of the web series, don't sweat it! Lauren Faust says it'll be a complete reboot.

Yay! Okay, first thing she should do is replace all the older heroes with their younger counterparts. It makes little since for Diana, Hal and Barry to be teenagers here while their peers Clark and Bruce are already adult heroes; especially when Donna, Wally AND Kyle (or Simon or better yet Jessica) can fill the roles.

If she does that, then I would be happy to give this show a second chance.

I haven't really watched much of the animated stuff, been more into collecting the dolls, and this news has definitely piqued my interest, but I have to wonder: Are they updating just the animated series, or the whole line including toys?

I mean, both articles I've read only spoke of the cartoon, but when I heard "reboot", I got really excited, then mildly concerned because I remembered the Monster High reboot/ redesign. Basically I hope this is happening because it was successful enough to warrant a new series, not because sales are down. (IIRC Mattle and DC were expecting bigs sales from this series.)

I think you'll be pleasantly surprised BigK1337, considering what's going on in this particular article...

Well, they need a character to be the group introvert and I can't think of a better choice.

It just hit me that the main trio is Batgirl, Supergirl, and Wonder Woman rather than Wonder Girl (Donna Troy), as it was in SBFF.

I guess if she really wanted to, Lauren would want Donna over Diana, but with Diana getting a big shiny new movie around the corner, it's kind of out of her hands.

I can't stop thinking of the possibility that Wonder Woman in this show is actually Donna going forward into Diana's footsteps and having "Wonder Woman" be a Legacy Character, but that's probably very unlikely...

There is no way DC/WB would not want Wonder Woman in the main cast given how heavily they're currently pushing the character.

SBFF was just a series of shorts, but when you're trying to do a whole merchandising-media franchise (which thus far seems to have worked well for them), Diana is about 1000 times more marketable than her sister.

Wow, already a reboot. I'm not complaining, but this must be a new record. Has any franchise ever rebooted faster?

Is it a reboot? It sounds like it's just getting an actual tv show instead of a series of Internet shorts.

[up] Yes, it's a reboot to make it a full series.

[up] Not quite a full reboot of the franchise as a whole, as Shea Fontana said she was still working on the tie-in webisodes, graphic novels, and Direct to Video films (which are vaguely considered alternate takes of the same premise) of the current iteration through 2018.

So I'm assuming we're going to have two distinct versions runinng around, similar to Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog and Sonic SatAM.

Are they still going to use the "Villains get along with the heroes" premise? Because I hated it. Certain exceptions are OK (like Harley Quinn) but who thought making Gorilla Grodd a teacher was a good idea? (also it begs the questions of: who are these kids being trained to fight? Common criminals? Isn't that what the police is for?) Yes, I know this is not supposed to be as serious as other DC shows. But then neither is MLP and that produced quite some adventures.

Few villains were still evil like Luthor, Granny Goodness or Killer Croc.

[up]x2 Not all of the DC villains are reformed (or vaguely anti-heroic/anti-villain). Granny Goodness and her Furies, for instance, were the main antagonists of their first DTV. The comics (and one webisode) had them face-off against Trigon, along with Lena Luthor, The Riddler, and some obscure choices. Black Canary here is villainous here, though.

Honestly, after the rough first episodes, this web series improved quite a bit in terms of the writing and animation. Though I felt that the Direct-to-Video films are where most of the traditional superhero stuff is found.

So it's just me?

I kinda liked supergirl as a normal teenager as she is on this show.

I gotta admit I didn't seem that hooked as her being as a devil wears prada expy but with super powers.

Also I really didnt like her as a tomboy that doesnt respect superman at all like in SBFF.

I actually like the tomboy rebellious Supergirl in SSBF as her personality reminds me of her portrayal in Superman The Animated Series where she displays a similar hot headed rebellious teenager who doesn't listen to her older cousin.

I suppose the problem you have for her portrayal in those shorts seems mostly due to the format of those cartoons and what little given in them, as there isn't much room for character exploration and development in those shorts. Especially compare to her DCAU portrayal where she has a similar personality, but a lot room for development and not constrain by the limits of being in a minute long series shorts (which are 5 to 6 in total). Maybe if SSBF was a full series, the show could of explore the relation between Kara and Clark more than that one initial short. Though personally I like how their interaction is that of like squabbling siblings, which is fitting for the comedic tone in the series and is a new take on the cousins.

Actually I loved her in the DCAU too. In fact that was the first time I saw supergirl ever and probably my favorite version.

I think DCAU supergirl has more in common with this one than with SBFF

Heck the part where she befriended batgirl in this show and their friendship is is super similar to how they became friends in Superman the animated series. ( mainly the episode girls night out).

Seems familiar?

I even , wrongfully, assumed it was the same writer.

DCAU supergirl did respect Superman. She even said she tried to be more like him and that's why she changed her costume in unlimited.

I don't mind them having a sibling relationship instead of a mentor one/protege one ... but SBFF seemed to imply something else , I really don't want to debate right now.

Yeah, sorry to that last part of your comment.

That is the point I am getting across with her SBFF portrayal: formatting and limited episodes. There isn't a lot of room of development for her in those shorts compared to her DCAU and DC Super Hero Girls incarnation who have multiple/longer episodes under their belt to explore her character.

And while yes Supergirl did admit to her respect for Superman in Justice League Unlimited and did so by dressing more like him, that is done due to character development. In her early appearance in Superman: The Animated Series she was a lot more rebellious towards her cousin due to a combination of being sheltered on the farm AND having to hide her powers for so long (not to mention being a teen). So naturally in Little Girl Lost she would disregard her cousin's instruction to be normal during their time in the city, take Jimmy to find the new Intergang and fight the group as Supergirl because its the right thing to do . . . okay I lie, its mostly because its fun.

And on how Supergirl first meets Batgirl in this series vs. DC Super Hero Girls . . . are we sure their meeting is the same? Cause last I check in Girls Night Out they met team up upon learning about Poison Ivy, Harley Quinn and Livewire working together to fuck shit up, while in that made for DVD movie which they met when Supergirl first join the super hero school and Barbara didn't even establish her Batgirl identity (and they fought the Female Furries, which I guess would another mark the similarities between the two debuts of Supergirl in their respective shows).

Yeah like I said I won't debate this.

But just to clarify, I didnt say the events were the same. The way their friendship is portrayed in the episode Girls night out is very similar to their friendship in dc super hero girls friendship.

The events that lead to the team up are obviously different.

Now if Faust indeed intended character development , then I take back all I said.

And similar to Super Best Friends Forever. And the comics. And Supergirl TV Series if they actually put a Batman character in that show (or better yet Legion of Super Heroes.

Honestly, Batgirl and Supergirl's friendship has consistently been portrayed as being strong and friendly in spite of deviations from each universes.

Also:

Heck the part where she befriended batgirl in this show and their friendship is is super similar to how they became friends in Superman the animated series. ( mainly the episode girls night out).

Just take out the part where you said "the part where she befriended batgirl" and I would believe your clarification. Cause their befriending is pretty different.

Seems like we will have to agree to disagree about that topic then.

To quote myself:

"Heck the part where she befriended batgirl in this show 'and their friendship"

I stand by what I said earlier. Notice I am talking about their friendship not the events that lead to it.

Besides, I though it was a given this shows were different universes and continuities and as such I didn't have to explictly say it.

Just wanted to give my thoughts on this show. I think its pretty decent though I only saw two movies I think. One involving Eclipso & another involving the Furies as main antagonists. They were pretty action packed & think the animation was pretty good. Most characters have a likable personality more or less.

I think its a decent way to introduce girls into superheroes (I should prolly get my sister to watch this to see what she thinks) & my only issues have to do with me being a fan of DC shit in general than anything actually wrong with the show itself like the age-lifting done to certain characters like Diana & Hal or how villainous or very morally ambiguous characters are made more heroic like Amanda Waller or Gorilla Grodd. I disapprove of Poison Ivy having regular colored skin though.
