Strike Witches: 514th JFW (Interest Check / Signups)

The year is 1944. The alien menace known as the Neuroi has swept across continental Europe, leaving almost everything from Ostmark to the Gallian coast a scorched wasteland.

Sitting across the water lies Britannia, considered the key foothold in the battle to see Europe freed from this grave threat.

There’s just one problem. The Neuroi are almost impervious to conventional weaponry, with anything less powerful than naval artillery often failing to even scratch their skins.

However, it was soon discovered that there was something that would be effective: Witches. Young girls born aloft by the magic they channel through the engines of devices known as “Striker Units” who had the ability to take on the Neuroi in the air, and even destroy them.

This discovery led to the formation of the Joint Fighter Wings; units of Witches drawn from across the world banded together to fight the Neuroi.

While the story of the 501st’s key role in the liberation of Gallia from their base in the Strait of Dover is probably the most well known, they are far from the only JFW in Britannia.

The Needles Battery, on the Isle of Wight. This old Victorian coastal defence fort now stands as the home of the 514th Joint Fighter Wing, tasked with defending the country against Neuroi incursions from the Hive sitting over Cherbourg and the Channel Islands.

So yeah, it’s my attempt at running a Strike Witches RP. However, given my inexperience at being a GM I’m going to be making this mostly a player-driven RP, at least outside of the combat.

DA RULEZ

• No Drama. I cannot stress this enough. We’re here to have fun, not to spend page after page arguing with each other over trivial matters.
• No Godmodding. This should be a given. This also includes ghosting and the like.
• Keep it PG-13. I know there’s some pretty… sketchy moments in the anime, but let’s try to keep it clean. If the yuri goes beyond a kiss, slam the door or fade to black.

• Name: Mireille Lavigne
• Age: I'm just going with 14 here which I think was roughly the age of most Witches in the Anime
• Appearance: Long Black hair going a bit over her shoulders, slightly tanned and always has a warm smile on her face. She has heterochromia with her left eye being ice-blue and her right eye being brown. Standing at 1,47 meters she isn't really the tallest witch to ever roam the planet.
• Nation: Imperial Government of Karlsland
• Rank: Stabsfeldwebel
• Striker Unit: Dornier Do 217
• Weapon:
  • A custom made belt fed Mauser MG 42 (The Freischütz) (Main)
  • Two Mauser C96 (without stock, normally in mounts on her Striker unit) (Backup)

• Animal Familiar: Fennec (Nicknamed Erwin - With best wishes from Girls und Panzer)
• Personality: Outside of combat she very much enjoys nothing more than building militairy models and generally is a friendly companion to have around. In combat she is mostly levelheaded except for when civilians are endagered - should that happen she can get very hotblooded.
• Bio/History: Soon after her parents moved from Gallia to Karlsland after one of the first Neuroi attacks where through a chain of unfortunate events the Neuroi was driven into a city subsequently killing most of her family except her parents Mireille was discovered to be a capable witch. At only 12 years she joined the 1st Nachtbomber Wing in Karlsland where she flew over 73 combat missions. After her 3rd Ace she expressed the will to join the 514th Joint Fighter Wing.

I'd say anything under Lieutenant / Captain / whatever the local equivalent is, given the GMPC character I'm writing now.

Sice Karlsland is supposed to be Germany I suppose they also have German ranks so I'm going with Stabsfeldwebel which according to wikipedia equals a Warrant Officer.

• Appearance: Just with tufted ears.
• Nation: Baltland
• Rank: Flying Officer
• Striker Unit: de Havilland DH.98 Mosquito
• Weapon: Browning .303 Mark II
• Magical Ability: Perfect Vision - when activated can see better in the dark, see things at long range and notice small details more easily.
• Animal Familiar: Lynx
• Personality: Brave and energetic, Siv likes to be where things are happening. When things are quiet, her hobbies include curling up with a good book or tinkering with machines. She dreams of becoming an engineer after the war. She works well with others, and likes escort missions. However, because of her Ability, she often gets night missions, which can throw her sleeping rhythm for a loop.
• Bio/History: Siv grew up in Kristiania, one of the largest cities in Baltland. Her mother was an engineer and father a photographer, and Siv loved to watch her mother work on the big machines. Most of all, Siv wanted to be a Witch or a pilot, but the Baltland air force was underdeveloped at the time and entirely dependant on the Suomus Witches for survival. When given the chance, she left to train for a Witch in Faraway Land. After her training was completed, she was transferred to the 514th JFW as one of the first fighting Witches from Baltland.

What branch of the military is this based off of? Asking because that would effect the ranks available.

Btw, since this RP seems will be mostly player driven how about we work together, both of our chars seem to favor Night-missions and seem to have at least somewhat the same hobbies, makes a good working base I think.

Edit: BTW isnt the base on the Isle of Wight the one from the Manga 'One Winged Witches'?

Good idea. Heglund historically flew a lot of night bombing escort runs, so I'm all for that. It'll also be an interesting dynamic with Mireille being two years younger than Siv yet still heavily outranking her and being more experienced. XD

I could possibly subtract a year or so from Siv, but I have little experience playing so young characters.

Well technically I could also add a year to Mireille I just thought this was the rough age in the Mangas but I'm not entirely sure

Now that I think of it, what would you canonically even bomb in Strike witches, its not as if the Neuroi have some kind of ground facilities.

Well, I guess Hives and Nests. Possibly also Heavy-types, although those are usually Tank Witches material.

They mainly (only?) appear in the semi-canon Africa Doujinshi series. I'm unsure of the degree of canonicity, so I'll leave that up to the GM,

Makes it canon enough for me but I agree to let the GM decide this. To something other that I never saw addressed in either the Manga or the Anime, was there a war before the Neuroi arrived, like is this some kind of Enemy Mine? And expanding on that are there some forms of Fantastic Racism in this world?

But even though she mostly maintains a happy and cheerful behaviour she never got past the horribly feeling of helplessness which haunts her to this day.
• Bio/History:
  • Pre Military: Born 1930 Mireille lived with her family in a little house in the outskirts of one of the big Gallian cities. It was 1939 in one of the first Neuroi attacks where through a chain of unfortunate events the Neuroi was driven into the city where she lived, subsequently rampaging through it. It was then when it was discovered that Mireille was a witch when she tried to shield her damaged house so that rescuers could go in and rescue her family, but due to her inexpirience as a witch and the lack of a familiar she just could not uphold her shield and the house collapsed, killing most of her family except her parents. Soon after that her parents moved from Gallia to Karlsland to bring her away from this place which only fueled her thraumatic memories.
  • 1st Karlsland assignment: Because she never wanted to feel this numbing feeling of being so helpless ever again she joined the Karlsland military at only 12 years, there she was assigned to the Nachtjagdgeschwader 1 where she flew over 73 combat missions. She earned the trust and respect of the other witches not through her exeptional combat record but because of her motivation for even the most unimportant of missions. Little did they now that she did this mostly out of fear of what would happen to her and to those she holds dear if she didn't succeed at every mission.
  • Orussia Assignment: After roughly one year of service she was send to Orussia to help building their 1st Witches only Combat Squadron, the 588th Night bomber regiment. The witches there had only obsolete Polikarpov Po-2 Striker units. Due to this dogfighting was out of the question, hence the witches soon adopted the tactic of turning off their Striker units as they got nearer to the target to remain undetected, gliding through the night sky. (A skill Mireille has to this day) Because of the disitinctive sounds they made while doing so they later became famous as the 'Nachthexen'.
  • 2nd Karlsland Assignment: Soon after she completed training the 588th she was reassigned to the NJG 1 where she flew until recently. Now was assigned to the newly formed 514th Joint Fighter Wing.
