Blackwood Academy of Supervillains

It's the start of a new year at Blackwood, with the next generation of supervillains ready to learn how to be the best of the worst. With classes like Mad Science and World Domination, Blackwood is the premiere academy for superpowered criminals. The students and faculty, however, are in for a surprise as nasty as they are.

A note was found taped to the front door. It read, "We are among you. Watching, waiting for our chance to bring you down. Catch us if you can!

The Youth Branch of the Justice Alliance."

Needless to say, with a note like that, everybody's on edge.

The Rules: No godmodding, autohits, or any of that junk. Don't bring any OOC arguments IC Make as many characters as you feel like you can handle, but make sure you don't exceed your limits. OCs only, but they can definitely be based on canon characters.

Student CS Civilian name Supervillain alias Gender Age (13-18) Physical description (includes villain costume if applicable) Powers Weaknesses Personality Personal history

Teacher CS Same as above, but age must be 21+ and a line mentioning what class you teach must be put somewhere in the CS.

  • Student CS Civilian name: Ronald “Ronnie” Holbach
  • Supervillain alias: Darksword II
  • Gender: male
  • Age: 16
  • Physical description: Ronnie is a tall, dark haired boy, with a somewhat baby-faced look to him, bright green eyes, and the build of a swimmer. When in his civilian clothes, he wears a sleeveless black shirt, jeans and sneaker shoes. His villainous outfit is a black and dark blue highly resistant synthetic fabric, several pieces of knight-like armor over it – on the shoulders, legs and lower arms – and a hood. It also includes a crescent moon-shaped mask that covers his eyes
  • Powers: Ronnie has above human abilities – though not to a truly high degree – and can create energy swords around him and fire them at foes. These swords are extremely durable, and likewise very sharp. His right gauntlet can also create a sharp energy whip.
  • Weaknesses: However, the swords can only fire in a straight line, and cannot be curved. Ronnie himself is a rather cocky fellow, and tends to talk too much.
  • Personality: Ronnie is a “legacy”, and that means a lot to him – it is a source of pride, but also a source of pressure, and he feels like everyone expects him to be like the others in the line. He tries to cover up his uneven self esteem by acting like a jerk and an overconfident playboy, though there is a rather decent person still in there. He feels rather threatened by the notice left there, but has decided if he can find those responsible, it could distinguish him from his fellows. He has a tendency however to talk too much, and he can be insensitive and sometimes tells rather off jokes.
  • Personal history: A young supervillain coming from a legacy, Ronald Holbach is the second Darksword, while his friend Manny is the third, and Manny's brother Kenon is the fourth. Ronald's father is the first of them, though there is a “Darksword 0” who originated the line, largely without the modern versions knowing about him. Ronnie was well trained, but has little in the way of villainous cruelty – he sees the whole thing as a job, and one he intends to do without being a “sadistic prick” about it.

What sort of resources does the school have for students? If my dude wants an assault rifle, does the school have an armory he can take one from? And if he's some kinda crazy scientist, will the school supply him parts for a jet pack or cloning machine?

daird Since: Jul, 2014
#4: Sep 5th 2015 at 12:23:15 PM

[up][up] Accepted

[up] There is an armory with convention weaponry and facilities for the more technologically adept to build gadgets and work on computer skills, though pre-built devices are not provided. The library has a small arcane section for the supernatural villains to learn and practice the mystic arts. The gym doubles as a training facility, complete with simulations of well-known heroes to fight. I've got a few heroes already designed, but if anyone wants to contribute a nemesis or two, feel free.

  • Civilian name: Charles Morton
  • Supervillain alias: The Harbinger
  • Gender: Male
  • Age (13-18): 15
  • Physical description: Here
  • Costume: Here The mask is a gas mask to prevent him being poisoned too easily.
  • Powers: Invulnerability. You could drive a car into him and the car would have a sizeable dent while he would remain unmoved. He also can selectively ignore pain, allowing him to feel normally while not having to suffer the pain of being shot in the face or such.
  • Weaknesses: He is not immune to anything that does not cause physical damage, such as illness, poison and suffocation. Also he can trip, be locked up and similar. Furthermore he still has the physique of a nerdy, 15 year-old boy and thus his offensive capacities are rather limited.
  • Personality: Charles is a rather withdrawn personality, being quite detached. However this is partially a facadé, as he believes one has to appear tough and uncaring to be a successful villain. He cares about his grades a lot and is the type of person who would take on an extra project to raise his grade from an A- to a straight A. His social insecurity makes it difficult for him to make friends, but he pretends not to care.
  • Personal history: His father was a relatively unsuccessful mad scientist villain. Hoping to allow his son a better life, he conducted various experiments with the young Charles, hoping to induce superpowers in him. But after half the laboratory was in flames or worse, Charles still didn't seem to have any powers at all. He couldn't fly, didn't have heat vision, nothing. Disappointed, his father gave up. However one day Charles was scheduled to get his flu shot. The needle broke. Then another. And another. Then a drill. And a nailgun. Perhaps the experiments had worked after all...

[up] Accepted, with the caveat that there be some things that can cause him physical harm. Like for instance, maybe he gets nothing more than a bruise from the high-speed car impact, but he's not quite completely unscathed.

In any case, I'll have my characters up tomorrow.

  • Civilian name: Shun Hojuugami
  • Supervillain alias: Waldkante
  • Gender: Male
  • Age: 17
  • Physical description: At first “he” appears to be a young woman of by and large very good looks, though this is a front mostly designed to throw people off. This front has black hair, green eyes, and a svelte and somewhat toned form, and a neat, well taken care of profile. The front usually wears official clothes and dresses which show some elements of a very well formed physique.

    • However, the “real” Shun mostly hides himself away, making use of this ability to indulge in secrecy. In reality he is a rather pale though quite muscular young man, light blond hair – very obviously dyed – and dark grey eyes, and a tendency to stand as straight as he can. He wears a white long sleeved t-shirt, dress pants, and sneakers.
  • Powers: His ability is called Mantra, one he has apparently had since birth.
It allows him to create “Battle Avatars” which he can hide himself away in and control, though there is a distance he needs to remain in to adequately control his creations. If he leaves this distance, they become violent and destructive. This distance needed is directly related to the complexity of the thing he's creating – the more complicated it is, the closer he has to be (for example, creating a fully functioning “human doll” like his Front, he has to remain close constantly).
  • He can also hide himself within certain Battle Avatars. For example, Erdstein, the one he constantly hides himself away in, is something like a chameleon-jellyfish creature.
  • Weaknesses: However, if he creates too many his attention can get splintered and mental commands can end up shuffled. His current limit is 5-7 Avatars depending on the complexity.
    • Depending on how closely linked he is to his creations, he can suffer similar injuries to what they suffer.
    • If he is badly injured, the Mantra Creations will rampage outside his control.
  • Personality: Shun is a by and large socially avoidant young man, disliking socially involving his “real self” and instead preferring to send his doll out there. He just generally seems to distrust people, and sees everyone as people with their own agendas and ideas for what they want him to do. Interestingly, his doll seems to be the opposite, a flippant loudmouth who happily throws itself into situations. Shun seems to have a thing against expectations in general, and hence when people expect something, he tries his best to betray that expectation in some way. While an intelligent and capable student, he is far too distant to really enjoy school life.
  • Personal history: Born to a mundane woman and a person who according to various heroes and villains had odd magical abilities but kept himself neutral. Shun never really liked to get involved with anyone largely because his father was prone to parading him around and using him as a source of more fame. “He proclaimed neutrality, but enjoyed the sides gibbering and trying to recruit him. A profoundly selfish man.” He apparently has an older Jerk Jock of a brother who went into the superhero job. It is safe to say Shun has no limit of dislike for his brother. When the note showed up, he started planning out his own way of trying to draw out these “insurgents”.
  • Other Note: part of the reason for his dislike of expectation is because of his Japanese mother trying to push him to put himself into certain roles. He refuses to elaborate on what these roles were, just that he did not feel comfortable in them.

[up] Just want to clarify something before I give the okay. Are these constructs something built around his body, or are they controlled from a distance?

In any case, here's my student, and our headmistress.

Student

Civilian Name: Jacqueline "Jackie" Martin

Supervillain Name: Jacqueline Hyde

Gender: Female

Age: 13

Physical description: 4 foot 5 and 100 lbs soaking wet, she is not an imposing figure by any stretch of the imagination. She has bright red hair and eyes that are normally green, though they turn bright red when she calls upon the power of Morgoth. Her villain costume consists of a spandex bodysuit, solid black on the left side, solid white on the right.

Powers: Jackie has access to magic, though all she can do on her own right now is minor telekinesis and pyrokinesis. She can also give her body over to an entity known as Morgoth, in which case her telekinetic and pyrokinetic powers increase, and she also gets boosts to her strength and durability (she can lift half a ton and ignore small-caliber gunfire)

Weaknesses: In her normal state, Jackie is just as vulnerable as any other human. Morgoth can only control her body for a few minutes at a time, and leaves her exhausted when she resumes control. In addition, Morgoth is very vulnerable to bright lights and holy symbols, as he seems to be some sort of demon.

Personality: Jackie herself is rather snide and cynical, always having a sarcastic quip at the ready. She doesn't open up to people easily, but will warm up to those who show they are willing to work with her. Morgoth, on the other hand, is a brute through and through. Living purely to fight and cause destruction, the line between friend and foe blurs for him, hence why Jackie only lets him loose in a life-or-death situation.

Personal History: Jackie was born to a couple of magicians in New York City. Soon after, they found out that she hadn't come into this world alone. A demonic entity named Morgoth had attached himself to Jackie's soul and psyche, and despite their best efforts, they couldn't rid her of it. Morgoth whispered in Jackie's mind, leading her down a dark path. Now, she (or is it they?) plan to learn all there is to know about black magic, and carve out a name among the greatest villains in history.

Headmistress

Civilian Name: Iris C. Evans

Supervillain Name: Deep Freeze

Age: 47

Class Taught: Headmistress, teaches Mad Science

Appearance: Tall and skinny, with platinum blonde hair and blue eyes. Her supervillain costume consists of a ice blue top with a reflective silver snowflake emblem, a long blue skirt, and a blue domino mask. Powers: Cryokinesis and turning her body into living ice.

Weaknesses: Obviously, any fire-based attacks are extremely effective against her. In addition, the fact that she's getting up there in years means that her reflexes are on the slow side.

Personality: Iris' attitude towards her students could best be described as "tough love". Deep down, she really does care for them, but she also knows that they have to be tough in order to stand up to what the heroes are dishing out. If you can find her outside of class, she will loosen up slightly, though she will still have a hint of an edge to her.

Personal History: Originally, Iris was a researcher at Caltech studying uses for supercooled radioactive materials. Then, an accident in the lab left both her DNA and her mind twisted, leading her to a life of crime and becoming perhaps the most feared supervillain in the world. She founded Blackwood three years ago, hoping to train the next generation of evil, and so far, she's been pretty successful.

(Note: Iris will only be seen rarely, usually when students are in her class or when leading the group on excursion.)

He can create certain ones around his body. His favourite tactic is to hide in his chameleon-jellyfish and control his female doll from inside there, often presenting the doll as being "Shun".

  • Civilian name: Dirk Van de Schim

  • Supervillain alias: Surtr

  • Gender: Male

  • Age: 18

  • Physical description: To call Dirk Van de Schim imposing would be doing his gigantic, terrifying frame injustice. He stands at nearly 7 feet tall (and is likely still growing), very lean with broad shoulders and thick, though not totally bulbous muscles from head to toe - the kind that could rip your head from your shoulders as one might tear a tissue. His skin is ruddy but otherwise light and thick calluses over his hands but his bone structure, though thick, is almost sculptural, handsome. However a hint of brutality, of barely contained violence seems to seep from his pores and hide in his great shadow.

  • Dirk's face is angular but not thin, a grin both charismatic and foreboding beneath his pitch black eyes. In fact, he doesn't appear to have any white schlera visible to them, only twin pools of a consuming void. His hair is a dirty, orangish red cut short at the back and sides, tends to keep a very short, neat and prickly orange beard.((Kinda like this I may draw something less half-assed later)) Surtr's voice is a smooth baritone though with an edge noticeable to the keen eared due his Dutch background, a chilling laugh and even colder silence. He tends to wear black boots, jeans and singlets under flannel but, when making a villainous impression, prefers black and red suits hiding an assortment of illegal devices.

  • Powers:
  • Super-Strength - Surtr has super-human strength, able to lift a truck with one hand at this stage. This power is constantly growing, his strength potentially limitless once he is fully matured but that is likely a few years away.

  • Hypnotic Gaze - Dirk's pitch black eyes hold his most incredible power, able to mentally dominate and impose his will on anyone who looks directly into his eyes. Once dominated the individual will follow his command without question though strong willed people may have great resistance or agency. This effect can last up to a few hours but this time rapidly diminishes the more under his power. Curiously, when this power was first unveiled, it seemed far more potent.

  • Toughness - More of a Required Secondary Power to his strength, Dirk's bones and tendons are tough enough to withstand the forces involved in such feats of brawn as well as toughened skin. However, he is far from invulnerable or bullet-proof though this ability may also increase with time.

  • Not even Dirk knows where his powers came from, though there is a theory that he is a descendant of the Jötunn.

    • Weaknesses: Surtr is tough but nowhere near invulnerable, doesn't feel much in the way of blunt trauma or cuts but ultimately bullets can pierce him as easy as anything. His strength is great and still growing as he does but not infinite at this time - To put it in a range, he can throw a tank but can't pick up a skyscraper. The limits to his Hypnotic Gaze in terms of length and number have been outlined in its description but breaking his stare during this process can also disorientate him for a few moments. Finally, while he is far from stupid Dirk can be slow to adapt to new situations or ideas and is stubborn as well as proud to a fault.

    • Personality: On first impression Surtr appears a man of few words, this being largely true, and unsettling to be around let alone socialize with. Understandably most other students, and even some teachers, tend to avoid eye contact and give him a wide berth - his rage, though rarely seen, is legendary as is his 'discovery' by the Blackwood 'talent scouts' in a Rotterdam warehouse 2 years ago. When he does speak it is often a quip or of great importance but eloquent and polite at all times whilst speaking in English. His grudges are long and particularly bitter, too stubborn to admit fault even when he knows he is wrong and argumentative at the best of times.

    • As one might expect, Dirk doesn't have many friends nor does he crave more but those he has are defended ruthlessly. Moreover, he seems to have a sympathy for new, younger students to the academy and subtly helps them when he can but will never admit it. Destruction and blood seem to fulfill a deep desire within him, fights eliciting an animal side to him. That being said Rotterdam is intelligent, if a little slow at times and has an animal cunning but also a love of literature (a secret, truth be told). Killing people has no impact on the teen but animals... there is nowhere you can run. Do NOT insult his family.

    • Personal history: Dirk Van de Schim was born on a farm in North Brabant, The Netherlands to an unassuming but loving family. Though he was the youngest of three boys Dirk quickly proved to have incredible strength and willpower, once lift a tractor in a tantrum. Nevertheless, he was not a bad child or a cruel one and spent much of his time caring for the animals, completing chores for his family. They had few books so he came to relish literature whenever the opportunity came. However, when he was barely 16 a tragedy befell his family - a great fire took his farm and by the time it was out there were only 5 charred corpses left. But Dirk was not dead. One of the bodies was a stranger and the boy was nowhere to be found.

    • Nearly a month later there was a terrible riot in Rotterdam surrounding an old, seemingly abandoned warehouse. Outside men and women were driven mad - running, screaming and driven by some force to great violence. The drains were thick with blood and for block fires raged. When emergency services and superhero of the time finally settled the area enough to enter the warehouse they found a strange seen. Bodies torn limb from limb, faces contorted from their last agonized moments were strewn about the building. They were all gangsters, well armed but still they were slaughtered and siting silently in the centre was Dirk. He was covered head to toe in blood, muscled arms clutching his sides and dark eyes wide. They brought him into custody, even the superhero unsure what to do with him and Dirk didn't speak for weeks until Blackwood Academy's scouts freed him.

    • Though few are aware, while Dirk was the youngest boy of the Van de Schim family, he also had a younger sister who went missing in the fire. Her body has never been found.

Name: Lucas Eliseo

Alias: Hasn't thought of one yet.

Gender: Male

Age: 15

Physical Description: Lucas is a very pretty young man. He spends a lot of time preening himself. The way he sees it, people judging others based on their appearance is an inevitability, so he has to try and look good. He's been blessed with bright blue eyes, the color of ice. He has somewhat long blond hair kept in a state of controlled messiness. Due to a strict skin care regimen, his peach-colored skin is free of blemishes. Physically, he's in good shape, with a toned body and a nice butt. It helps that he grew up in a house on the beach, so he swam a lot when he wasn't studying. He looks kinda like Shulk

As far as clothes go, he favors somewhat goth clothes. Lots of black, lots of spikes and skulls. Going for a sort of modern day Sauron-type look. When he's a villain, he wears a black labcoat with an oversized collar that covers the lower half of his face, as well as a pair of goggles.

Powers: Lucas is the son of Dr. Galactica. Like her, he lacks any true super powers. And like his mother, he's obsessed with learning more about the nature of the universe. He goes at studying science books and learning math with the same vigor as most people would go at a video game or a freshly baked apple pie. Thus, he's very, very good at multiple scientific disciplines, and capable of inventing things that are incomprehensible to most people, and can easily create many more mundane technologies. Put him a room with some spare electronics, and he could build a radio, a grenade, a walkie-talkie, or a taser in about 10-15 minutes. Presently, he has two inventions he took to school with him.

Bag of Holding: Technically a metal suitcase and technically made by his mother, not him. This suitcase is a bit beyond even Lucas' abilities. Inside is a portal to a pocket dimension, allowing it to store an unlimited amount of items within. It was a going-away gift from his mother, so he actually hasn't gotten around to putting anythign in it yet. The case itself is very durable. Not even bullets can break it.

Stunner: It looks like a remote for the Nintendo Wii, sans nunchuck. It was made using one, although you'd probably fry the poor console if you used it on it. By pressing the A-button while holding the B-button, he can fire a small bolt of electricity. It's very, very fast, and has the same result as a taser most of the time: The target will typically be sent spasming to the floor, unable to move for a few seconds. It's not typically fatal unless the target is wet or has a lot of metal equipment. It also will fry most electronics.

Finally, Lucas is in pretty good shape, and has good aim with his Stunner and other ranged weapons.

Weaknesses: Lucas himself is an entirely normal human. Without any gadgets, he has no powers. His machines themselves have their problems too.

Bag of Holding: It's 13" by 17" inches, so anything bigger than that won't fit in. And if Lucas loses it, he loses access to everything stored inside.

Zapper: The thing eats AA batteries. Lucas can get six shots out of a pair of them before he has to reload. He's working on making a more long-lasting power source.

Personality: Lucas seems to be a friendly, outgoing young man. As far as supervillains go, he seems the most normal. However, it bears mentioning that he was raised by an amoral villainess. In other words, he's still just as depraved as other students, just in a different way. Think less sadistic, more just amoral. But he's still very much a teenage boy. He likes swimming and video games and he has an intense love for the ladies. He makes friends easily, and not just so he'll have allies. He genuinely enjoys socializing with others.

History: Lucas is the son of the notorious supervillain, Dr. Galactica. Other supervillains fear her. Not because she's particularly strong for someone who's been at it for as long as she has. Nor because she's particularly evil. In fact, she's more amoral than actually malicious. No, she makes other supervillains nervous because she just doesn't care. She does experiments that open portals to far dimensions without bothering to worry that Cthulu just came out and is eating Miami. After nearly ending the world in a time paradox, a team of heroes and villains quickly banished her to a far dimension.

Lucas was oblivious to all this. Yeah, he knew his mother was a supervillain, but to him, she was just mom. She taught him a lot about science, and he was always well-provided for. He played a lot of video games, swam a lot, built robots. Mostly a normal kid, though he always wanted to be like mom. He was devastated when she was finally arrested when he was 13. He gets visiting rights once a month, which is very generous, he thinks, and he's mostly come to terms with it. He wants to maybe one day help his mother escape.

[up][up]First question: Yes, if only to make it easier on newbie Mc GM grin

Second question: Not 100% sure, but I was thinking that we would have a mix of supervillain-specific classes and traditional classes with an evil twist. Social studies, for instance, would have a large section about how to manipulate public opinion and get yourself elected President (Let's not forget Lex pulled it off).

[up]Accepted, and to be honest, he fits in perfectly with a breakout mission I'd already been planning.

I'll get the discussion page up ASAP.

Haha, sounds excellent. I suppose, as the Academy hasn't been open that long and the students aren't necessarily inducted at the same age having them in the same class makes sense.

Any idea when we'll be starting the RP proper?

  • Student CS Civilian name: Lina Jing
  • Supervillain alias: Foxfire
  • Gender: Female
  • Age (13-18): 14
  • Physical description (includes villain costume if applicable): Here! Her eyes are almost never visible- the only thing most people know is that they're red. Additionally, her hair color changes when she uses her powers.

  • Powers: She can control fire, make illusions and move faster than the average person. However, she can only produce certain (kinda small) amounts of fire before tiring. Her illusions can only apply to one person or object at a time, (e.g. she can make a rock look like a flower and herself look like another person, but not at the same time) and her speed doesn't surpass anyone's who has super speed as their main power. She can use a blade pretty well, and her villain costume comes with a sword. Lastly, she has enhanced senses.

  • Weaknesses: She's kind of a Glass Cannon- she can dish it out pretty well, but she's relatively fragile. If her tail is cut off when her powers are active, she loses her magical abilities. The tail can regenerate, but that takes between several hours to a day. Additionally, her shadow is always fox shaped- an unfortunate tell when she's in disguise. And as with most people who have heightened senses, overloading them is kind of a problem...
  • Personality: Not really what one would expect from a villain- she's pretty chipper and energetic. She tends to be nice to anyone she meets, at least at first. After all, being a villain doesn't mean you have to be too much of a douche, right? This outer personality, however, hides... nothing. Yeah, she's actually like this... Well, besides being amoral and seeing no problems with comitting crimes. She also rather enjoys playing practical jokes on people.

....Okay, there's probably more to her- not that she would ever reveal it to you, though...

  • Personal history: No one's really sure where she came from.. Only that she was found robbing a convienience store using her powers one day. When asked where she came from, she could only reply 'I dunno, but I'm kinda hungry.'She was about nine back then. Hoping to reform her, Lina was left in the care of several foster families by the local authorities.
  • ... Suffice it to say, she wasn't reformed. After causing several incidents no one could pin on her, Lina was taken in by the Academy. Some have theorized that she's a fox spirit of some sort, or at least posessed by one, but no one's really sure...
