I am kinda surprised no one created a page for him yet despite him being around since 2009 and has close to 40,000 subscribers. I myself am unsure how to create a new page for a work but I have created a trope list on my own time here if anyone else can handle it. Also I don't know if this is the right place to post something like this either. https://docs.google.com/document/d/1Xi4uLKYJhK-ECNcnIe28Zv34EvfwknNMH0kOxJ-8-xY/edit?usp=sharing

I should mention that what I have is not entirely perfect as some of the wording may not be the most professional sounding and kinda awkward, and I don't tend to be the best with the whole introductory paragraphs and only have a slight blurb put there. Also some of the quotes may not be verbatim seeing as how it is a bit much to manually scan his videos to get the exact wording of them, although some are still exact. Also there are some where I didn't get every example, so i could use some assistance with creating the page.

Also a link to his most recent video. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UMb9IHao_Sw

He's basically Spoony but with less charisma, IMO.

Not a big fan of his video game reviews, but i do enjoy his music mythos/metal mythos videos. Even when he covers bands i dont care for (ie, Danzig), the videos are still entertaining.

He definitely has less charisma. He has a very colorful vocabulary, but it feels like I'm watching Joss Whedon reviewing games, and that's not a good thing. I end up checking his videos out mostly to write down any new words I hear, rather than pay attention to the content.

Hey, I enjoy his work. Yeah, he can be a little too vitriolic for some, but the brutal honesty of his reviews are refreshing.

Honestly I've heard some bad stuff about Razorfist, but I keep seeing he seems to have an immense hatred for Kojima.

I'm definitely a fan of his videos. He's one of the most fiercely opinionated critics I've seen (maybe the most, though just as he says, at least half his reviews are positive towards the main subject), and his tastes and mine sometimes vary wildly, but I like him as a reviewer. He's probably the biggest Daredevil fan I've ever seen.

As for Kojima, I'm a big fan of Metal Gear, but I actually gotta respect his reasons for disliking him. He doesn't like that he shoves his plots down the player's throats instead of letting them play the game at their own pace, and finds older stealth games to have more legit, competent stealth. I haven't played those games, except one Splinter Cell game I didn't finish, so I can't speak to their quality.

A good point on Kojima is when he asked how many times players encountered obtrusive puzzles and cutesy-poo fourth wall breaking moments in the P.T. demo (the demo for Silent Hills). I just played that and while the there were about 2 or 3 of the latter, the demo is almost entirely composed of the former. I didn't "rike" that, I'd rather just be able to play the game without having to stop and check walkthroughs.

He's honestly Spoony with far *more* charisma... and less pedantry. I'm a huge fan of his stuff, and I'm still saddened by the lack of a TV Tropes page for him.

Having only just discovered his videos I have to say I have a lot of respect for his approach. Yes, he does slip into the personal attacks on his "rivals" at times, but often with good reason. He is erudite and well read and also takes quite a mature stance on things. And example would be his series on VG Journalism. I honestly expected something different, but he is good at mostly aligning his attacks at the system that allows faults to happen rather than individuals.

He is clear about what he is targeting and why - vociferously - but he doesn't use it as a mask to get in cheap jibes. The only one I wasn't a fan of as much was his moviebob riposte - he did dip into fat jokes far too often; but then again I think he was offended not by the fact that moviebob had taken a pot shot at him but rather that he had done so LAZILY and only doing a surface scan of him as a critic.

He uses facts, he minimises his flashy on screen jump cuts and is perhaps a bit too on the nose at times - which is possibly why he isn't as "mainstream" appealing as some "critics" or personalities on youtube.

I've watched pretty much all of Razorfist's work by now, including some of the arcade ones he does with Alpha Omega Sin. He's great. I still like Yahtzee's, Jim Sterling's and Angry Joe's videos as well but Razorfist's ones seem to get more to the core of what the particular film or game he's ranting about actually are. I don't agree with all his shtick though - I'm a fan of Bethesda RP Gs and he's kinda went off them since Skyrim. But I am on board for a lot of it.

His best works, I find, are the retrospective videos and the Music Mythos series where he covers heavy metal and the likes of Queen and David Bowie - I can sit and watch those for hours.

He comes off as incredibly pretentious, humorless, and edgy just for the sake of being edgy. If it weren't for his Daredevil reviews, you'd swear he were completely incapable of enjoyment.

I watched a few videos of his, but honestly, I didn't really feel like subscribing to him. To me, he comes off as kind of a douche. I also don't care for his politics as well.

I find it interesting that he doesn't like Zero Punctuation yet they have very similar reviewing styles.

[up]Yeah. I like Razorfist, but the shit he gives to some fellow Youtubers seems just for the sake of ego sometimes. His barbs against Yahtzee for instance usually amount to "Hah! He writes his material? What a loser!", as if you can't be funny on Youtube without being strictly freestyle, as if this were a rap battle.

He should realize that not all people do reviews/comedy off the top of their head. Writing a script doesn't mean you're not a good critic. It means you prefer to be prepared.

^He actually addresses his thing against Yahtzee (and the recurring claim that he has a similar style) here

As someone who strongly dislikes Yahtzee (and is discouraged from voicing my opinions by how defensive his fanbase is) I found his response quite satisfying. Note this passage:

"If anything, he’s a comedy writer. Not a terrible one, but he’s also not doing anything that Charlie Brooker didn’t do first, and better, in the pages of PC Zone magazine in the '90s."

Not familiar with the chap he referenced, but interesting comparison.

^ I usually don't mind the digs, but I gotta admit I wasn't a fan of his shot at Linkara. Not just because I'm a fan, but because it was as disingenuously surface-level as Moviebob's parody of him was, for which he took offense. When people corrected him in the comments, he outright admitted he doesn't watch the show.

^^^ Yes, his politics are abhorrent. The political digs in his videos lately have actually started to wear on me lately. Especially ironic since he claims that the creators' politics don't belong in the games or comics (even a book about Captain America, a guy with a flag-themed costume), but his own videos are full of them (though again, his inspiration is stand-up comedy, so that's fair).

He comes off as incredibly pretentious, humorless, and edgy just for the sake of being edgy. If it weren't for his Daredevil reviews, you'd swear he were completely incapable of enjoyment.

He's definitely an acquired taste. I very much say he's not for everyone. I know he wouldn't like this comparison, but I find his "Too Edgy 4 U" approach comparable to Red Letter Media and Jim Sterling, both of whom he dislikes. I also find it interesting how touchy he is when replying to people in the comments. I would think someone as critical as him would have thicker skin.

However, on the topic of things he actually enjoys, I find it very refreshing that he seems to have so much long-standing admiration for Nintendo, since so many these days like to shit on them for this or that. I also find it refreshing that he defends the Star Wars prequels, admittedly because I'm not much of a hater for them (I'll happily conceive their flaws though) but mainly because I'm friends IRL with a guy who's one of the most irritatingly negative prequel haters you'll meet (going so far in recent years to say John Williams' scores for the films sucked). That kind of refreshingly contrarian take is kinda appealing to me, just because I really don't see much of it elsewhere.

Look, if you like Razorfist, then I won't stop you from doing that. Personally, I can't stand him because of his politics(same reason I unsubscribed from Alpha Omega Sin), his tendency to come of as a douche, and the fact he looks like an 80's Metalhead stereotype.

Looks like 'Fist is chewing out Bioware now (or rather, one of their designers). Hardly unjustified I'd say.

The guy he's talking about is a complete tool, I'll say that...other than that, at this point I'd prefer he stick to talking about the actual games rather than the politics.
