[Town ~ Bed & Breakfast (Shared Room)](Connie, Davey, Irina)

Irina looked between them. She crossed her arms and sighed. It was a long day of driving through a desert. Stressful at that, and with the added anxiety of Garganteum. "I really don't want to go out. But if I sense it coming any nearer, I'll go out and warn you. Try not to go too far."

She then formed just a hint of a smile. "I just hope you'll have enough wits to come back."

[Grand Hotel - Presidential Suite]

Vic looked around, noticing all the dirty plates. "Wait, uh, who's gonna clean it up?"

Samuel stifled a belch. "Oh, uh, I think we call them to come clean it up." He shoved back from his seat to head for the speaking tube (for lack of a better word). He shouted back, "I'll compliment the chef, then the food, hah."

Vic got up and went for the sofas to recline. He considered asking for another cigarette, but felt he didn't need it. He rubbed his belly, and marveled at what a full stomach felt like. He also felt a bit sleepy. The boy then begun to hiccup. "Ah, I ate too fast."

Todd stretched and rose as well. "I think I'm gonna retire early. It's been too long of a day." He then yelled, "Sam, I'm goin' to bed!"

Sam didn't reply, as he was too busy ordering something else, along with calling for cleanup.

Jeannette took a moment to gauge Chisa's seriousness and then tapped her mic. "Mikey. Halt." They'd traveled about half a klick, actually, at least by inertial reckoning. It was usually pretty good, but it accounted for their motion, not wind pressure, and that was actually enough to matter right now. "How are the tracks?"

"Half-off I'm guessing." Michael replied. "Engine to low idle."

"Sandstorm's not letting up. We're going to have to dig the tracks out to fix them." Ritchie groaned.

Grand Hotel - Presidential Suite

While Samuel organised someone to clear away the plates, the newly-named "Mad Bastards" headed over to the comfortable sofas and armchairs with freshly-filled wine glasses and sat down.

Todd announced his intention to head off to bed, citing a long and tiring day and James figured that was reasonable on the grounds that his day had doubtlessly been more hectic and tiring than anyone else's.

The Mad Bastards gave cheerful waves and a chorus of goodnights to Todd and fished in their pockets for cigarettes and lighters.

Peggy looked over at Vic - who sat on one of the sofas, hiccoughing occasionally - and smiled. The "lad" - he was not many years younger than herself - seemed quite relaxed and satiated after the meal. From what he had said earlier, it was probably a novel experience for him.

Wolfe sipped his wine and drew on his cigarette, mulling over the events of the day. Although they had obviously been of assistance in rescuing Todd - and Vic, as well - from the clutches of the cultists and had seen a bit of the desert surrounding the town, they were no closer to locating what they had come to find. Tomorrow, they would have to do better than visiting a saloon and a brief excursion into the desert if they hoped to achieve anything.

[THE FORT - MESS HALL]

At first, Tana looked confused, but then amused at the instance of someone taking her joke at face value. At the very least, it led to the conversation of what this place actually was; San Houston.

"Another thing that's funny..." She added, "is these kinds of people attacking an army of this caliber. When we were making our way over here, I got a look at just how advanced their firearms were. What would they get from attacking a 19th century army?"

[[Rail Siding - Kaito, Trinity, Gray Guy]]

Kaito was glad that Trinity had brought up the fact that he had fought toe-to-toe with Stalker and yet still came out alive; sure it was a hard fight for him, but at least it made him feel like he actually deserved the credit.

When she had then brought up that the two of them with her should probably take shelter, he couldn't help but agree more, despite the other guy saying that it didn't seem to bother him at all. Kaito honestly didn't care about the other guy, he still was technically on the clock for this mission and he still had to make sure that his person of interest was in one piece still.

Although when Trinity had mentioned that she had somewhere else to be; the young agent couldn't help but follow her gaze towards the now seemingly halted tanks about a click away from their position now. Did she have business with the same person that he did? And if so, what exactly was her goal? The blonde then spoke up, turning his eyes back to Trinity. "Do you mean that sentient AI in the tank? What is it exactly that you need her for? Something to do with whatever's in that case I assume?" he queried, his fingers slowly coming to grip the pistol in his hand just a tad harder.

In all honesty, Kaito still didn't know much about Trinity, much less could he fully trust her yet, even if she had saved his life. He was always trained to be skeptical, or at least intuitive when it comes to unknown players in the game of agents and espionage. He had to stay on his guard until he felt he could finally trust her, and only once he found out what she was after would he come to trust her fully or not at all.

Rail Siding - Kaito, Grey Guy, Trinity (nearby Jeanette and crew, Chisa)

Trinity shook her head at the Grey Guy's question. "There are still people in there and I would rather not harm any of them." she replied, unsure exactly how he would 'bring the tank to them' but it might be something dangerous. The blonde boy's comment immediately snapped her attention to him. So he knew of the subject on board? But how? She had never met him but perhaps he had met the girl in question at some point. It was entirely possible. "I'm not sure how you know of her, but yes, I have something for her. She has some abilities to defend herself, but they aren't very strong and for what she might face, she needs something to help her fight better." she paused a moment as she noticed the tank slow down to a stop. Good, the girl must have heard her message and got them to stop for her.

"As for what is in the case, call it an upgrade." she added before turning to run off towards the tanks but stopped momentarily. "If you are also seeking the AI, you may come with me. But be warned, if you intend to harm her in anyway, I will cut you down." was the last thing she said before taking off. She was mostly talking to the blonde boy, but if the grey one insisted on coming, she wasn't going to stop him.

The man looked at the tank's position before turning back to Trinity.

"Alright, suit yourself,' he said, referring to her declining his offer to move the tank. "Although, it sounds like they're having technical difficulties over there anyway. Something about the tank's tracks."

He began to walk towards the tank.

"Oh, and don't worry. I don't make a habit out of killing random robot girls anyway," he responded to Trinity's threat.

[hotel room 106 (Tsadro, Arthur)]

He wasn't sure whether to feel bad for Arthur, or be confused as to how he managed to get this far in life. Obviously, he wasn't trying to be malicious, yet the first thing that came out of his mouth was undoubtedly speciesist. And it... actually galled him a little that he was taking issue with it.

He barely moved a muscle, staring unblinkingly over his hands, and spoke slowly, emphasizing certain words in case he still wasn't getting it. <'Would your servitude instincts happen to... suppress curiosity and the desire to question what people are doing.>

<We are a diverse people,> he said, letting his fingers fall into a steeple. <just like humans. We may have as little or as much personality and will as our masters choose. Most live and work as ordinary productive citizens who happen to be sworn to their employers. There's some cases of Rivari who were broken almost from birth to act like drones,> he said, finding himself glancing away.

He returned his gaze to Arthur, unlacing his fingers. <It's simple. Do not assume our personalities and experiences with servitude are the same. Several Rivari my age and older have zero patience with humans and no desire to respect them. That I am cautioning you instead of getting angry makes me an exception to the rule.>

Tsadro relaxed a little, guessing that Arthur had once again forgotten about his goal in his panic. <Your assumption that I hadn't asked due to my 'servile nature' is still poorly placed. I stated before we left the bar that I may be of assistance in finding whatever you're looking for. When you chose to learn of my people instead, I guessed your business must not be so important if it could wait for a history lesson. Is that no longer the case?>

Hana chuckled. "Interesting." She said. "It seems we're in similar situations. I'm here on vacation, and Maya here is among my security detail."

Maya smiled shyly, amiably, but said nothing.

Rin considered Sophia's answer. "So you found three prisoners - I assume they were prisoners, seeing as they were locked up - and then someone killed them before you could ask them anything. And then that led you to what sounds like it might be a secret escape route heading out of this place's underground areas, and then you ended up here. Is that about right?" She said, thoughtfully. "I don't suppose you know who killed those men you found, do you?"

Addressing the others generally, she said "And another pressing question: Where did those invaders come from, exactly? I wasn't here for the very start of the fight, but by the looks of things," She glanced between Gwion and the Sergeant. "They took you very much by surprise. I didn't see any obvious signs of forced entry - the front entrance is still intact, at any rate - so what happened?"

Henry got nervous at Rin's question. "Well you see...... I thought they were attacking us........so I pulled out my gun and killed them myself." He said guiltily. "I didn't see Gwion unlatching the door and I thought they were bandits." He finished looking down feeling bad about taking the lives of those who for all he knew could've been innocent.

"As for the intruders I have no idea how they got here. One minute the Lieutenant was leading us to his quarters the next those guys show up shooting. Likely there is a higher power in play here planning something. My best guesses are that they wanted the fort itself for whatever they have planned or maybe they wanted to get all the antique weapons to pawn off for funding."

Northwestern Desert - Fort (Mess Hall)

"She's right," said Henry. "We need to figure out just who those guys are. Starting with interrogating the one we captured. Now while I have training in getting information from people, it's so old that the OSS gave it to me and is outdated by my standards and likely extremely outdated to all of you guys."

Sophia snorted. "You mean the one I captured. By myself, with my bare hands - instead of, you know, just shooting him through the fucking head."

"Another thing that's funny..." Tana added, "is these kinds of people attacking an army of this caliber. When we were making our way over here, I got a look at just how advanced their firearms were. What would they get from attacking a 19th century army?"

Gwion nodded. He was wondering exactly the same thing. It had been a total surprise attack, bypassing the fort's defences, against a less-equipped force - many of whom had been unarmed at the time - but to what end?

"So you found three prisoners," said Rin. "I assume they were prisoners, seeing as they were locked up - and then someone killed them before you could ask them anything. And then that led you to what sounds like it might be a secret escape route heading out of this place's underground areas, and then you ended up here. Is that about right?" She said, thoughtfully. "I don't suppose you know who killed those men you found, do you?"

Kaitlyn noted the way Sophia gave a pointed stare at Henry at that question and got a fair idea of the answer. She gave a smirk.

"And another pressing question," Rin continued, "where did those invaders come from, exactly? I wasn't here for the very start of the fight, but by the looks of things," She glanced between Gwion and the Sergeant. "They took you very much by surprise. I didn't see any obvious signs of forced entry - the front entrance is still intact, at any rate - so what happened?"

Sophia turned to Rin, about to answer, when Henry interjected with his confession of killing the men at the water tower and his own surmise about why the invaders had attacked.

"I caught their arrival out of the corner of my eye," she said, once Henry had finished. "They just seemed to materialise - like they teleported in - right in the middle of the quadrangle, then immediately opened fire on the unarmed squad that was nearby."

Gwion considered Henry's suppositions for the motive. "Well, let's go find out, shall we?" He turned to the Sergeant. "Could you please lead the way to the prisoner?"

The Sergeant nodded and led the way to the Stockade.

The only cell that was occupied was the one that held the prisoner. His helmet and ski mask had been removed and dumped on a nearby table with the rest of his equipment, revealing a man in or around his mid-thirties with sandy crew-cut hair. He looked noticeably frightened when the Sergeant entered with the others in tow and his eyes gravitated towards Sophia, taking on a tinge of terror.

Sophia noticed the look and gave a tight-lipped humourless smile. She took out her cigarettes, lit one and then slowly and deliberately blew on the lit end so that it glowed brightly.

Finn looked the prisoner over. "Doesn't look so big and brave now, without his mates t' back him up, does he?"

Gwion grinned. "Well, you know the difference between him and a sack of shit, doncha... Oh, wait..." he picked up the red ski mask off the table. "I've found the sack."

The prisoner shrank back in the cell, his eyes flitting from captor to captor. No doubt they were coming to torture information out of him.

[Grand Hotel (Lobby)]

Scents thought again. Something about the woman seemed a little weird to her, but apart from her one visit to their sphere she wasn't familiar enough with humans to be sure. At least she wasn't an obvious potential problem like the First Advocate had been.

"Seems like the quiet type, if I may say so," she said, looking at Maya. She briefly tossed her head sideways. "And just one part of a security detail, huh? Do I get to meet the rest of the team?"

She glanced over at Iraal, just to see what was going on, but the doc still seemed engrossed in whatever it was she was doing. (With her, there was no way to tell if that blank expression meant she was internally browsing the link, or just zoned out on something inside her own head).

It occurred to her that it was getting late, and they still hadn't had anything to eat. And while the sandstorm was actually refreshing in a weird way, in this case it was a problem. "Also, uh, do you know if this hotel is serving food?" It looked like the kind that might, or at least the kind that might pushed back a thousand years or so.

But that looked like it was true for this whole town. Though the doc would be the one to know for sure...

[Town ~ Bed & Breakfast (Shared Room)](Connie, Davey, Irina)

Davey paused for a moment, his dark eyes gazing thoughtfully at and around Irina. In that moment, it looked as though he might have had something more on his mind. A feeling itching to break through his unflappable curtain. Disappointment, longing, maybe even irritation that she too was encouraging him to give up his pursuit. Something beyond the smile and the easy, "Well, whatever suits your fancy." that came a moment later.

His gaze lingered only a moment longer on Irina before shifting to Connie. Unfortunately she was still turned away, glaring sullenly out the window. She held the distinct air of being wholly disinterested in whatever Davey was planning to do next.

The sight caused Davey's smile to falter for a moment, but he caught himself quickly, turning his attention back to Irina and continuing, "For me, that means going out there and finding someone who fancies my suit."

While he spoke, he walked back over to his open bag and retrieved a set of weather-proof trousers to match his parka. They even had what looked to be a detachable sleeve to shield his tail. Again, not likely an article meant for the arid desert. He quickly tugged them on over his slacks, now looking more ready for a mountaineering expedition than a night on the town.

"And with that," he said, preemptively brushing the imaginary dust off of his parka, "I wish you two a lovely evening." he walked over to the door, then, with a smile and slight bow, said, "Bwanna notty ladies.", massacring an Italian phrase in the same breath.

[Town ~ Grand Hotel (Room 204)] (Joseph, James, Pancake)

Joseph frowned thoughtfully and began to slowly pace back and forth in front of the bed.

"It's... It was kind of a weird set of circumstances." he said, then paused, glancing at James, and shrugging, "I mean, I guess it's got to be weird if it involves...sss... someone like..." he glanced down at his hands, then shrugged again, "well, you know. But, it was weird beyond that, I mean. Well not weird exactly, unusual, more like. Basically, something had to be done, and at the time, I was—mine were—the only set of hands available. It was supposed to be really important, they built it up like it was some kind of an emergency. And I wouldn't have done it if I'd known what I was going to be getting myself into."

He paused, both in word and in step, gazing rather vacantly at one of the hotel's walls. His voice grew quiet, sounding more subdued. "What it would all lead to. But I didn't. I didn't know. I just thought... I thought... I don't know... I guess, I... I guess I thought it would be exciting. That it'd be cool to help out with something, to do something important instead of hiding inside my house all day. I mean, jeeze, it was like being under house arrest, only no one was allowed to know that I existed anymore, if we could help it. Had to hide from the neighbors... my friends... the police..."

He fell silent again, and his eyes became more focused. He turned his lizardy mug to look at James. "It was more than two months like that. I wanted to get out again. I dunno, maybe I wanted to get caught too. I just wanted the whole thing to be over with, only, it wouldn't have been over with, 'cause I'd still be a lizard, and who the hell knows what that would have led to. I just wanted to exist again." His eyes fell, and he murmured, "...now I really am gone."

Joseph was silent for a few seconds, then he turned away and sighed. He waved one clawed, lizard-like hand limply in James's direction and said tiredly, "Anyway, don't worry about it dude. You're cool."

"So I guess the question is, do we even want to pop a hatch in this-" Ritchie paused, noting the unusual age of part of his audience, and cut the sentence off there.

"Not particularly." Jeannette replied. "May not have a choice, of course." Please God, don't make us have to bail out into this shit. "Mikey, you said you guessed. What's up with the track sensors?"

"No way to know without looking, but they think the tracks are perfect. Might have sand in them." He chuckled. "Cap, I know they're at least halfway off. You can feel it in how we move." Her driver's family had been in the construction business for three generations, and for some reason that had resulted in an instinctive understanding of how tracked vehicles handled that even a career tankie like Jeannette didn't quite match.

[Desert - Near Rail Siding]

Garganteum wandered a bit longer, north of the town. It sensed lesser energy from it, and rather, off towards the railroad tracks. It was true confirmation that there was life to feed its hunger.

It stood at two stories tall, and four-legged. Its snout was lizard-like, and jagged white teeth hung out of its mouth. Its feet had five fingers with an elongated heel. The claws were also massive.

It eyes only opened every once in a while, and when they did, they glowed white.

It stalked towards the rail siding. Its footsteps crumbled the harder ground below it. As it hungered more and more, it made a low growl, loud and deep enough to be heard beyond the whipping winds.

[Town ~ Bed & Breakfast (Shared Room)](Connie, Davey, Irina)

Irina chuckled a bit at his joke. She was about to ask him on his choice of clothes, but she figured they were from a different climate. She stayed silent and watched as he moved about.

Irina considered a moment to urge him differently. But if he was firm with his decision, there would be no use to tell him otherwise.

She bowed her head. "Good night Davey," she said quietly. "Be safe."

Samuel returned to the group, and sat next to Vic. The boy froze up for a moment before relaxing. The Colonel reclined a bit before saying, "Kid, you better not ask for another cigarette."

Vic nodded. "You just reminded me," he turned to Wolfe, "Can I have another?"

Samuel shook his head with a smile. "Rebellious kid." He cleared his throat a bit. He crossed a leg over the other. He relaxed a bit himself. "So uh, what're you all here for anyways? I have a hunch that you didn't walk into town just to lift a truck-tank and shoot people."

Wolfe couldn't help but grin at Vic's automatic response to Samuel's interdiction. He took a cigarette from his case and lobbed it towards Vic. "Don't let the grey beard fool you, I'm a rebellious kid at heart." He didn't bother tossing his lighter as well as Vic seemed to have that side of things well sorted.

"So uh, what're you all here for anyways?" Samuel asked. "I have a hunch that you didn't walk into town just to lift a truck-tank and shoot people."

Kris laughed and gave a wicked grin. "No, those things were just added bonuses."

James turned to face Samuel. "We're looking for— something. We don't really know where to look, so we figured the best thing to do would be to have a look around and see if we can find any clues. It seemed that the best - and most enjoyable - way to do that is to hook up with some others and tag along with them wherever they were going for mutual support and companionship. Today, we saw a bit of the desert and there were no clues there but who knows what tomorrow will bring."

Peggy shrugged. "We arrived late in the day and didn't have much of a chance to look around before night and the sand storm rolled in."

James only nodded and listened to Joseph's story. When the boy was finished, he looked away for a moment, staring at the wall, seemingly lost in thought.

"I can kind of relate, you know?" he then said, "When John and I first got together, we hid it from almost everyone—especially from John's father. He was terrified of his father, and how he would react to finding out that his son was dating a man. Plus, this is the deep, deep south we live in. We had to hide who we were, for our safety. But it started to drain us. How long could we keep this up, pretending that we weren't in love?"

He looked down at his lap. "We kept that up for months. Part of us just wanted to finally let it out. I guess...I guess, like you, we just wanted it all to end. We were so tired of hiding. So, one night, we talked to each other hand decided that enough was enough. Of course...we had no idea what the hell we were getting into. With my family, the results were mixed, to say the least. With John's father...he doesn't want to talk about it. To this day, he still won't talk about it, so I can only imagine how it went."

He closed his eyes and sighed.

"Maybe I'm comparing apples to oranges, but your story...boy, can I relate." He then let out a small chuckle, rubbing the back of his head. "Guess I got a little too heavy on ya. Anyway, my point was that your story probably wasn't easy to reveal." He smiled softly, "But it's always good to get things off your chest, son. If you need anything else, John and I are here for you."

At this point, Pancake was deep asleep.

Rail Siding - Kaito, Trinity, grey guy, monster (nearby Jeanette and crew, Chisa)

Chisa was so glad the others listened to her and nodded her head in agreement to Jeanette's comment. It would be a bad idea to try and talk outside in the sandstorm that still reigned, but if they would allow the one who talked to her inside then everything would work out fine. Though there was still the question of what did that person want with her? "She is close." she said, scanning briefly and seeing a figure outside.

Trinity was almost to the tanks, several feet away in fact and paused a moment as she tried to find the way inside. But a rumble in the ground made her pause and look around nervously. In the distance she saw something very large walking towards them and immediately braced herself. She had no idea whether if it was friendly or not but prepared herself for the worst. "Another obstacle in the way hm?" she muttered, putting the case beside her again and drawing a gold, pink, and black gun.

[[Rail Siding - Kaito, Trinity, Chisa, Jeanette and Crew]]

When Trinity met Kaito's eyes, her reaction to his knowing the girl as well was curious, yet he could sense her eyes narrowing at him; as if trying to read his intentions toward the girl. "Ah I see.. No wonder she's been able to evade capture from the Corpus for so long..." he said, glancing back towards the tank. So what Trinity had in the case was an 'upgrade', rather peculiar, but it now started to make a lot more sense to the young agent how this AI had been able to survive so long. But what was Trinity's real connection to the girl? Were they connected in a way that Kaito had yet to uncover?

Moments later when Trinity decided to make her way towards the tank, her next words were stern and threatening towards the agent, saying that if his intentions were to harm the girl, she alone would be the one to cut him down. Kaito bolstered himself and looked at her through his visor. "I have no intention of harming her. I was sent to find her and keep her safe, just as I'm sure you were sent here to do as well. Our goal is one and the same." he replied honestly.

As they approached the tanks, Kaito then felt a tremor beneath him. What could this possibly be now? Yet another enemy or was this just another natural phenomenon in this strange place? His hand went to his holster by reflex, hovering over the grip of the pistol until whatever was shaking either showed itself or ceased in rumbling.

The man paused for a second, feeling the tremors in the ground and listening to the sandstorm. Then he turned and began talking to Trinity and Kaito.

"Is that a friend of yours over there? 'Bout twenty feet tall, really sharp claws and teeth, looks kind of like a budget Godzilla?" he asked.

[Hotel Room 106 (Tsadro, Arthur)]

... fuuuuuck.

<i wanted to stop thinking about the main mission and do something else because i was so tired, and i did forget about it for a little while, which was nice. but then i remembered and it started bothering me. it's not a big deal. not today, at least. i'm not going outside to look for secret underground laboratories when there's a storm like that outside>

A part of him wanted to explain that Tsadro's words had led him to assume that servitude was a lot more deeply ingrained in the Rivari than it actually was, but Arthur decided it wasn't worth the trouble. Either way, he'd fucked up. Realizing he had made an incredibly insensitive remark wasn't a new feeling, but he wouldn't say he was used to it, either.

<yeah, never mind, it was just a random intrusive thought. i'm kind of all over the place right now. actually, wait a second, i should just make an organized list of things to talk about, that might be helpful because i have so much i want to ask anyway. sorry i'm usually less of a mess than this>

He hunched over his tablet and opened a new memo so he could start brain-vomiting everything he wanted to ask and try to organize the questions by topic. Great excuse to avoid eye contact. He was half-tempted to jump out of the window and run before he embarrassed himself any further, but with his luck he'd just break his legs.

Wait, that had nothing to do with luck. Of course he was going to fucking break his legs if he jumped out the window.

Everything was awful.

Meanwhile, someone from Unit Psi was taking advantage of the tablet's connection with Tsadro's implants to try to talk to Tsadro. The tablet gave Arthur no indication that anything strange was happening. He would notice an inexplicable drop in the tablet's normal processing speed if he started doing anything intensive, but he was simply typing notes.

"Can you hear me?" Her voice had a heavy Portuguese accent. "I'm trying to reach you through Arthur's tablet. Pretty sure I did this right, but things can get weird when you're being roundabout..."

[The Forest]

Cyrus gritted his teeth. Kito, forget it.

Reluctantly, he turned around and started heading back toward his partner. You want us to save our strength, right? Especially because it's been a while since your—

His jaw was set. Yes. I know.

[61A3 Knight One-One]

The tank rocked lightly on its suspension. Not much at all.

There was a brief second in which Ritchie's eyes widened visibly as his head snapped around towards Jeannette. She was already moving herself, cursing the storm and the fact her vision blocks were covered in canvas and using words she probably shouldn't have in front of Chisa.

"Knight One, Knight One, Zaku in close proximity! Jeannette looked at Ritchie. "Reload, Sabot! Mikey, get us ready to move again, now.

[Railroad Siding]

There was a just barely audible series of clanks and a slightly more noticeable set of increased engines noises from the tanks at the railroad siding.

[Forest] (Miyuki, Brin, The Black and Teal, Kito, Cyrus, etc)

Miyuki took a swipe at Maridel anyway, just out of principal, then veered off, away from Maude and towards the sky.

[Grand Hotel] (Lobby)

Maya blushed. "S-sorry!" She stammered. "I just... Yeah, the quiet type, like you said." She concluded, her cheeks getting a little bit redder.

Hana chuckled quietly. "She's just shy, that's all." She said. "And the rest of the team is, at the moment..." She shrugged. "Otherwise occupied." Then she glanced around the room. "As for the hotel, I can't say I know the answer to that. It does seem likely, though, doesn't it?"

[Fort] (Mess Hall) >>> (Stockade)

Rin followed the prisoner's eyes towards Sophia, and easily put two-and-two together.

"You look scared." She said to the man. "We're going to ask you some questions now, and if you answer them well, then we'll stay on this side of the cell, you can stay there, and the floor stays relatively clean and free of your blood." She said. "If not, then, well..." She pointedly looked over at Sophia, and just let the statement trail off, given her a subtle wink while her head was turned.

"Now," She said to the prisoner. "Could you tell us who you are? Tell us abut whatever organization you work for and why, exactly, you attacked this place." She smiled, though it was a bit sinister. "Please."

[Rail Siding]

Garganteum neared. It dipped its head lower, and the winds seemed to whip around faster. Sand cleared around its head, making the black monster's head more visible to those nearby. Through closed eyes, it sensed several beings— a few outside, and possibly more hidden inside a metal encasing. It opened its eyes, seeing the tank. Red pupils darted around.

It heard the tank and ground its teeth. A guttural sound emanated from its throat. The linings of its mouth dripped in saliva. Garganteum opened its jaws, and lunged at the tank, striking it at its side.

[Grand Hotel - Presidential Suite]

Vic lit up a cigarette. From there, he seemed to relax a bit more. It was certainly rare for him to have times of peace. He even considered pinching himself to make sure he didn't dream of the steak and the nice couch.

Samuel scratched his chin in thought. "Well, uh, you certainly got half your deal."

"You know what..." the man then reached down to his left leg. He pulled up his shorts and carefully removed his prosthetic. The gauze peeled off as well, and his skin irritation seemed mostly healed. He rubbed it a bit before laying back again.

Vic stared at his leg. "I-I didn't know."

He shrugged. "I get that a lot."

"How did it happen?"

A simple question, though one that had the potential to hurt, Samuel frowned a bit. "War. To be more specific, bullets, shrapnel, and trauma from a grenade." He continued to rub it, as he still felt that something was supposed to be there. His prosthetic helped him forget, but it gets hot and uncomfortable after long periods of time. Sometimes he felt a phantom pain, like a leg cramp that wasn't there. "I don't even remember the amputation. I kind of remember yelling at my boys to cut it off..."

Vic nodded. He turned to the Mad Bastards and said, "Maybe we could—I mean, you could go look at the forest tomorrow. I'd think it'd be cool."

"I'm not sure what tomorrow holds. Me and Todd might go back out to find our rescuers," the Colonel wondered aloud. "Maybe find other adventurers to tagalong with."

Life is hard, that's why no one survives.
