I think it looks a little too neat for the purpose of showing some kind of food normally not meant for humans you eat because you can't afford better.

As long as that fits the trope, I'm good with it.
Since I know that Spongebob has a pet snail, I can see that fits the trope.
I'm just worried that unless you know that detail, it looks like he's eating escargot from a can, or something like that.

It's a small pic, but the dog is visible on the can. Lister's wearing an anorak, which implies he's in a bad situation. He must eat it to stay alive (though he chose it over pot noodles).
