[up] Alright. I'm working on a new level in homage to a certain pitfall trap...

Ok so I gave both levels a try. The burrow one was pretty decent and the airship one....well, I think you maaaaay have gone a bit overboard with some of the cannonballs and other shootables in one or two spots and the Bowser Jr. fight was kind of bullshit with him being big, flying, and raining Bob-ombs making it harder than I would have liked.

I got more keys and coins for you though! 0315-0000-0269-0EE5

[up] I see. In any case, I've played your new level and it was much more enjoyable (with some clever puzzles). I'm currently working on a puzzle/temple like course and it seems it's going to take a while for it to be fully realized. Going to have to come up with some creative puzzles here and there...

I really really need to upload Roaring Aircraft and post it here. I'm still in a crisis of jobs and not sure when it's time efficient to play Mario instead of working on something more important. I have a lot of tasks to complete...

At long last, after three days of designing, testing and other miscellaneous things, it is done.

Bowser's Super Pitfall Castle (C16D-0000-026B-0464)

The hardest part for me was the mid-boss fight, which went under several revisions. There was going to be more puzzles, but I apparently maxed out the number of blocks early on, so I cut the budget. Additionally, I left a little few secrets for those seeking to explore the level beyond the normal path.

I can upload 20 courses, so how many stars do I need to get the next tier?

[up]150 stars. In other words, one more for you. Which I have done now.

Ah I was wondering where that one came from. Thanks!

That said, I played your Bowser castle level you just posted and...I kind of raged quit. The Thwomp after the first key door was BS since I didn't see it till was too late. After going past that for the Mushroom on top, I jumped down and couldn't squeeze into the path below so I fell in the lava. Then after getting past that and reaching the room full of P Switches, having more Thwomps ambush me by surprise just turned me off completely.

Take your time. The trick is to not rush it (that's reserved for the P-switch run bridge). That Thwomp after the first key door is half-way visible (only there to punish those who try to run). And the P-switch room is designed like a temple from Indiana Jones. I even reserved a special message for those foolish enough to activate the P-switch too early.

But don't worry, the first checkpoint flag marks the end of the Thowmps ambush and platform puzzles. It's all bosses from here on out. And say hello to Bowser Jr. with wings once you get there. evil grin

That's the thing, I didn't run blindly yet either I got stomped from above or a jump screwed me over.

So my insurance of power-ups has been vindicated. As well as the difficulty. Take your time with this level. It took me two days and 17 minutes to beat that Who has the Key course. Raged quit on the first day, and nearly on the second. But I didn't give up because I saw the taste of victory so close.

Some helpful advice for the castle level. If you are struck by a Thwomp in the Temple, best use the temporary invincibility to your advantage. And let the Bowser statues guide your path. wink

Actually it was more like 20 minutes before I raged quit. I had to take a break by making new level courses. Then I have to take a nap since it was night. The second day, I finally beat the level, only to look at the time it took for me to beat it. About 17 minutes it says. Meaning that I went over the regular 500 second time limit twice.

I should really give a tag for Bowser's Super Pitfall Castle. What would be this categorized? I have used various aspects of this elaborate course. Bits and inspirations here and there. And how long will it be before this level catches on? I lost Anchors Aweigh! due to lack of popularity and I not willing to see this be taken down after all the work I put into it.

[up]The issue is that I don't have a Reddit account or even a Twitter account. The only way I was able to spread word about my levels is through this thread and Disqus.

P.S. I played my course again just to see if there was any problems with the Thwomps and surprising, I managed to do just fine. The first Thwomp wouldn't even touch you if you just simply drop down from ledge instead of running. The other Thwomps have a distinct landing site and safe zones that just simply requires precise landing. It's all about patience and focus here.

Gave it another chance, died about 10+ times and I just couldn't muster the will to keep going. Screwed up at the thwomps, screwed up at the run for your life before the p switch stops section, spent 5+ minutes in the first Bowser fight just waiting for him to smash the right blocks cause he homes in on you until the last minute and breaks the wrong blocks, got past him finally with no powers up left and then dying to the 2nd Bowser, I said no. I refuse to try again and start the first long fight over again. It just was not fun for me.

I know you put in effort in making the level, but it's too unforgiving if you screw up early and restarting the long portions time and time again made me not want to play it again.

I never waste 10+ lives on a single level if I do Expert. I try it 2 or 3 times, then just skip.

There were checkpoints and power ups at every corner. Each checkpoint is before a boss. And I had one last power up before the last Bowser fight. Really, once you get the first checkpoint, the rest should fall into place with ease. (I cannot control Bowser's fight pattern for the Super Mario Bros 3 replica, that's why I left one power up and a check point flag before his boss fight).

Though I'll be pleased if this ends up in the Expert Mode. I once had Bowser's Rock Labyrinth be in Expert Mode, though eventually enough players beat it to downgrade it to Normal Mode.

I know where that powerup was, the fight itself didn't really jive with me because of how high up the base floor was, which made the camera aim low and mostly hid where Bowser's flying was and made it frustrating to avoid since I'd always get hit at some point.

Well, you can try Bowser's Rock Labyrinth then. That was my first real ambitious project with Super Mario Maker. Has multiple pathways to Bowser so you won't be simply stuck with one particularly hard path (though I do want everyone to try all of them out). The Bowser fight in that one is your classic SMB 1 fight. Just jump over him and hit the ax. Only difference is that he's huge.

P.S. Now that you mentioned losing 10+ lives before quitting, I'm surprised on how long I persisted with the Who has the Key? level. Over two dozens or more lives (perhaps around 50 in total) before I managed to get to the final key door. Nearly raged quit after making a mistake with the Clown Car and doing that whole Dry Bones and invincibility jump on the Boos all over again (after going through all the trouble of getting past the Piranha Plants, Thwomp, and precise jumping), yet I somehow continued on. Maybe it's because I didn't want let this level beat me so badly after making some good progress.

For me, it just wasn't worth getting myself more and more frustrated to the point of wanting to hurl my gamepad into a wall.
