And here I was beginning to wonder if something had happened to this.
I'm sure Troy Steele will come out of hibernation just for this godawful shitfest.
"Somehow the hated have to walk a tightrope, while those who hate do not."Will there be Monster Blood?
"godawful shitfest"?
It doesn't look to be inordinately bad or good.
The only poor thing about it so far is that it's clearly bases itself off of making references to the book series (which, admittedly, is a common path to being terrible), so it probably should've been made years ago when those references were still fresh in people's minds. The target audience likely has no idea what the books even are.
Development Hell, maybe?

"The difference between reality and fiction is that fiction has to make sense." - Tom Clancy, paraphrasing Mark Twain.I though the target audience was people who did remember what the books are.
Don't you think those people would have matured by now? Goosebumps was part of my childhood as well, and I sure as fuck wouldn't pay a single damn cent to see this.
"Somehow the hated have to walk a tightrope, while those who hate do not."It looks like it could be entertaining but I'm probably not going to see it. I kind of think it would have worked better as an anthology film instead of a comedy.

Going by the trailer, it seems to be a Defanged Horror movie for older kids - like the The Boy Who Cried Were Wolf or the couple Disney Channel Original Movies that were horror themed.

"The difference between reality and fiction is that fiction has to make sense." - Tom Clancy, paraphrasing Mark Twain.Demetrios: It wouldn't be every book. Just do some of the more popular ones in 15 to 20 minute segments. Assuming a normal film runtime they could probably do about six or seven along with some kind of framing device.
It's alright. I probably did word it somewhat confusingly.
Of course the fact that there are so many books they can't do means they'd have plenty of material left over for potential sequel films.
You could even still have Jack Black as R.L. Stine in an anthology.
Visit my Tumblr! I may say things. The Bureau ProjectI don't know, I'm pretty sure a lot of the books have episodes based on them so it might be redundant. Then again, with a movie budget you could probably do a better job to make the stories scarier than what they did with them on the show.
My Tumblr "If theirs one thing I'm good at, it's blowing" Jesse Cox 2013I'll be honest, I laughed a couple of times. But I'm also a bit paranoid, because if we're being honest, letting Rob Letterman direct Jack Black traditionally doesn't go very well.
Maybe you'd be less disappointed if you stopped expecting things to be Carmen Sandiego movies.Pretty releiving that this isn't one of many online communities that are whining that the movie isn't taking itself seriously. Those people are idiots. It's a series that scared little kids. You're not gonna get a Darker and Edgier adaptation.
With that out of my system, it looks like a fun popcorn movie that I might go see if I have spare money and nothing to do.
Y'know, maybe I will go see this movie just to talk about how horrible it'll be. I'll bring my laptop and phone and tell them that I'm a professional reviewer.
I really don't think people are complaining just because it'll be tailored to kids. Being someone who watched the TV series and read most of the original books (not to mention quite a few of the spinoffs), I can say that even at it's cheesiest there were some honestly creepy and outright horrifying elements in the Goosebumps series (though a lot is Fridge Horror). This, on the other hand, looks like a generic kids action-adventure movie with loads of cringe-inducing humor; that shit pop song in the trailer does not help matters.
Also, nothing is safe from Darkerand Edgier. Nothing.
"Somehow the hated have to walk a tightrope, while those who hate do not."That's a REALLY big over-generalization. Every trailer ever? Yeah, okay, sure.
"Somehow the hated have to walk a tightrope, while those who hate do not."Bad hyperbole is bad hyperbole.
The timing for this movie is just too late; should've been released when people actually cared about Goosebumps. I'll be surprised if it manages to even reach the top ten at the box office.
