So this is a thing I guess.

... Am I allowed to say this is probably going to be the first Telltale game since The Walking Dead that I'll probably skip? I mean, I'm sure it'll be alright, but... Minecraft.

Right now, I'm oddly optimistic for it, if a bit super weirded out.

Y'know, I really like how it looks like those Minecraft animations that are all over youtube.

I was wondering how they'd handle it, considering the vast myriad of ways that one could explore the world of Minecraft.

The fact that there's more than one "player" character means that it's taking an approach I'm not a fan of.

I'll probably pass on this one as well.

Anyone who assigns themselves loads of character tropes is someone to be worried about.

Looks fun to me.

I'm getting a heavy Lego Movie vibe from this. We look at it and tilt our heads, it comes out and reaches memetic status.

Seems like it's aimed at a younger audience than Telltale's standard fare, if the dialogue and story are anything to go by. I'm hoping that it will be different mechanics-wise from typical Telltale games as well, seeing as it has Minecraft as a setting. Also, Patton Oswalt!

Simplicity is the ultimate sophistication.

(Looks at You Tube comments.)

...Good F***ing God. This has gotta be THE single most Broken Base I have ever seen.

For me personally, I don't play Minecraft at all, but I'm nonetheless looking forward to this. Telltale has proven that they know how to make interesting storylines, and I don't think they'll fail now.

Furthermore, it also wouldn't be the first time they made a good game based on a franchise I had no interest in. I had never even HEARD of The Walking Dead or Fables prior to playing Telltale's games. And while I had heard of Borderlands, I have never played it on account of me generally not being into first-person shooters. Heck, among the Telltale games I've played, Strong Bads Cool Game For Attractive People and Telltales Game Of Thrones are the only ones based on franchises I was already a fan of prior to playing them.

In fact, thinking about Telltale's passion for storytelling, I half tempted to say I'm more excited for this game than I have been for their other ones. The deal is that Minecraft is a world that has had absolutely no defined story or canon before. So essentially, this is closest Telltale has gotten to having a blank canvas. Their other franchises have had defined characters and plotlines, meaning they have certain limits. Sure, most of the time they find a way around those limits, usually with something that gives them more freedom, but nonetheless Minecraft is a setting that does NOT have defined characters and plotlines, meaning Telltale can do just about anything they want. I'm looking forward to what Telltale will do with this lack of limits.

Not sure if I should be excited or apathetic. Mostly I'm just confused.

It's Kingdom Hearts all over again.

I have to admit, the idea of a story mode in Minecraft did catch my attention. However, I have to ask; what can Telltale bring that the modding community hasn't? I mean, people have been modding and making custom maps since Minecraft's alpha days. So what can Telltale do that is different from a typical custom map?

Wile I am skeptical, I do want to see this succeed.

[up][up]More than likely, it's probably only going to be a story mode In Name Only. It's not going to be played at all like a typical Minecraft game, and instead it's going to be Telltale doing their thing: telling stories based on another's work.

[up]And I'd be ok with that as long as the mechanics are worthwhile and creative. I can see it as a third person hack-and-slash with some relation to Minecraft's crafting system.

[up]I don't think it'll be a hack'n'slash. It'll probably be another narrative-driven adventure game like Telltale always does. Just set in Minecraft this time.

Crafting IS going to be involved though, as shown by Jesse (that's the main character's name) making a stone sword at one point in the trailer.

Yeah, Telltale don't make action games at all.

The closest they've gotten are the fight scenes in Wolf Among Us, and those are more like... I dunno, dancing in a way.

Any combat is most likely going to be entirely QTE, basically.

More likely than not we'll get the usual Telltale deal of a point-and-click-esque adventure game with a bunch of QTE. Not a bad thing, mind, just an odd choice of gameplay for something like Minecraft and Borderlands. Though it still worked for their Borderlands game so...

Do we know who's voicing the female protagonist?

Going by the link, Catherine Taber. Does a lot of Star Wars stuff, Mission Vao, Vette, Padmé in The Clone Wars.
