So, I recently found a treasure trove of an old youtube channel with narrations of TV Tropes' golden days, mostly focusing on the old Troper Tales section. Anyone else watch this? It's quite entertaining。 https://www.youtube.com/user/CrazyGoggs

I'm probably in there, somewhere. I've had a mostly benign internet presence, but have had my moments.

Ech, I looked at the comment section of one of the vids(yes I know that the YT comment sections suck). Christ, as much as I hate the word, the cringe is strong there.

You can see a ton of banned users in some of those vids. But he ran out of material after a while, and then holy crap his subscribers. Those comment sections are bad by Youtube standards at several points.

Ah, well. Either way it'd seem everyone's moved on.

He probably moved on because TV Tropes got better. I was on here when these videos were made, and I think they're hilarious. No reason to be butthurt.

To be honest, I can see why the YT comments are what they are for those videos. Never really sank in for me just how much the mass purging was necessary.

Probably the only time I feel the youtube comments are completely justified in their vitriol. I still remember reading some of these when they were on the site and the "personal diary" nature quickly turned creepy.

These kind of things becoming so common was one of the reasons I left TV Tropes for quite a while. I hadn't developed my taste for Bile Fascination nearly so much as it is now.

Just for the record, don't be surprised if this thread gets locked. Show used to be a pretty damn controversial subject around here. We had a page for it, but it was locked because reasons. Dunno if it's still considered taboo around here to talk about it.

I see no reason it should be locked. We should embrace the fact that we had an Old Shame, rather than deny it and try to pretend that era never happened.

We're not locking this just because it exists. If this thread starts to develop problems (you know, flame wars or personal attacks and so on) we might shut it down. As it is we're not going to lock it.

We're talking about the kind of content that can only be elevated by reading it in funny voices! Or perhaps it's the case that if your comments are good, then you should have no fear of them being read in funny voices. We should be thanking CrazyGoggs for having brought our attention to growing problems!

I think the Nakama video is my favorite.

These videos are so cringeworthy I have to turn the sound off for some of the worse parts...

(For the record, I'm not against the idea of this thread, and I actually enjoyed the videos myself back in the day, just was cautioning based on past discussion of this series on the site.)

Honestly, I was always kinda upset that I was never made fun of in the series. I saw a post of mine screencapped, but it was only coincidentally in the same shot as the post they were actually mocking.

I've never felt the need to check if my posts were there, but it doesn't seem the sort of thing I'd necessarily want to read/watch anyways. Other people can and figure out the problems. Or I can observe the culture here. But at the same time am I on there?

If it's from a video of a wiki page, I don't think we could answer that without having already memorized your entire edit history, since those additions aren't signed on the page itself that I know of. I guess someone could at least check all the forum-based videos to search for names...
