i skimmed the article. while i haven't watched every single episode of Go, I have to disagree that any of it could be considered "high satire". it's not nearly as bad as some people say it is but I wouldn't get ahead of myself either.

[up]I will agree with this as previous interviews and tidbits I have found from the writers and creators makes it very obvious that the creators of Go! know exactly what they are doing.

It's certainly not good satire in any shape of the word as it is blatantly making fun of the original show among others (Young Justice, TMNT, My Little Pony:Friendship Is Magic) and it's very obvious about it. So blatant that the jokes easily fall flat (I have watched Teen Titans Go! to confirm this)

Hell they made a episode blatantly based on How long is forever? from the original show despite saying that they didn't watch the original show.It's....mind boggling. I mean even they admitted themselves that they know the show there writing is stupid but....let's do it anyway because reasons?

[up][up][up]I think anyone who's apart of any reboot is expectant of getting hate.

Speaking of the 100th episode, what was it any way? Was it like that Aqua teen episode where the cast is obsessed with 100? Did Slade finally show up? Or is it a case of Spongebob where the hyped up episode is nothing really special?

[up]Them not watching the original show is, in their own words, a joke.

[up]Assuming today's 6pm episode was the 100th (haven't been paying attention to CN this week; a lot has happened), the episode involved:

  • Raven wishing for silence, causing a part of the episode to be silent, then later all the Titans create their own sounds. I personally thought it was cute.

  • Robin forcing everyone to camp. Campfire stories ensue. Pretty amusing.

I wasn't expecting anything big, so I was adequately entertained, probably because it was one the less overly-mean-spirited episodes.

[up][up]....I can't figure out what the punch line is. If they consider the show a satire of the original show then they need to of watched the original first to familiarize themselves with the characters way better. But then again that wouldn't be the first time they contradicted themselves knowingly.

I mean...this show certainly isn't the worst show ever (I have seen WAY worse)like some people like to make it out to be but still it's not even close to being a good satire. Satirical jokes are a whole lot less blatant then this show's brand of humor.

"Plus, I have yet to hear someone who works on SU call their show "stupid" like Go!'s producers have said before."

So they really did say that? I suspected it might be just rumors...

The writers don't seem to place much importance on milestones. Not only did the 100th episode not have anything noteworthy, the first season finale was just Robin playing with puppets.

What TTG episode was that? "Staring at the Future", right?

So wait, did they not watch the original show? Because it's totally possible that some guy gave them a recap on what the original show's episodes covered.

[up]It was the one where Starfire went into the future and the titans have split up. A kind of Wonderful life episode.

I think they watched the original. They've used footage from Trouble in Tokyo and have references to the show.

[up][up]Doing nothing special for a season finale isn't something that hasn't happened before but them hyping up the 100th episode so much is a bad move.

It's Spongebob syndrome. The network puts a lot of emphasis and hype on an episode that's pretty much a regular episode. Hopefully they won't do this as much as Nick has done it.

[up][up]Apparently what they said in one of the early interviews was that they actually had not watched the original Teen Titans. The existence of that episode which was definitely based on How Long is Forever? might of crushed that.

Either which way my point in this thread is my god are the writers attitudes not helping how this show is received at all. They flat out said they know exactly what they are doing....

which, in all fairness, makes it harder to judge the show on its own merits than it should be. their main demographic isn't even going to get those references and i wouldn't necessarily see them going over well with older fans.

Another interview. It's about their humor and how they come up with it. It really explains a lot.

[up][up]The references to the original show are definitely not going over well with the older fans from what I have seen. On top of that with episodes like Let's get Serious (which I watched briefly, that episode was kind of funny only for Trying way to hard visual aesthetic that they did) that are making fun of Young Justice (The show that Go! replaced and supposedly got canned). And then you got them making fun of MLP:Fi M, TMNT, Dexter's Lab I think at one point, some of the Batman cartoons, and a few other odd references to other older shows from various networks. And yeah the fans from these various shows are pissed about it.

The writers seem to be trying to piss off as much people as possible. That's the only thing I can think of that explains this really odd behavior. Which kinda of makes sense as that it's likely drawing more attention to Go! in the first place.

[up]I'm guessing they're not too happy with people who don't like their show, esp those who watched the original and enjoyed it.

Nah, I know what "How Long is Forever?" was all about. I was asking what episode in TTG was a blatant reference to it and I assumed that TTG episode that was referencing/homaging/satirizing that episode of the OS was "Staring at the Future" where BB and Cyborg find themselves in the future after partaking in a staring contest for a slice of pizza.

People getting pissed off about it and them trying to do so are different things.

I recall someone complaining about them using footage from the old show for a joke because according to them it failed. They were treating the joke as failing as if that was just an objective fact and not a matter of opinion.

I will agree they were taking a shot at Young Justice but more than that I think it was a shot at people who bitch about this not being a replica of the old show. I can understand the urge to do that even if I don't think they way they did it was in good taste.

[up][up]Oh.

Yeah that's the one.

[up]The scene where they used old footage is pretty bad. It was like watching an abridged series done by a little kid.

They don't seem to understand that when people say they want the old show, they don't mean something that's super serious, edgy, tough, macho like what they did with Let's Get Serious. Because the original wasn't always so serious. It had it's fair share of goofy episodes. And even the ones that weren't goofy usually were at least balanced in a way that was fun and dramatic(like the one where Robin goes off to train and the other titans are goofing around in Robin's outfits).

On top of that with episodes like Let's get Serious (which I watched briefly, that episode was kind of funny only for Trying way to hard visual aesthetic that they did)

Yeah I saw that. there were a couple of moments which I found funny and the episode seemed REALLY STRANGELY aware of what it was doing.

Like Beast Boy saying "I'VE NEVER FELT MORE EMOTIONALLY COMPLEX" actually made me laugh.

i think i understand what they were trying to say, and it's fair enough but i think it's kind of missing the point of a lot of the criticisms. sure a lot of people just hate it because it's not like the old show, but a lot of people just legitimately don't like it because they don't like the show as a comedy. which i think is a legitimate criticism, because as i said, sometimes it gets close to being funny, but then we just have episodes where they repeat the word "waffles" hundreds of times over. dexter's lab did that so much better, in my opinion (partly because it didn't repeat the word anywhere near as much, and "OMELETTE DU FROMAGE" is just Inherently Funny Words to english speaking audiences).

[up][up][up]I understand what they are trying to do. I really do...but my god are they not doing it well. The shots that they firing off on other shows is coming across more as bitter then playful. That 'never goes over well with the fans of the shows that they are trying to poke at.

And seriously...can I ever get a joke of MLP that actually funny rather then the stereotypical It's a girl/pony show hur de hur hur? Even Planet Sheen pulled that stupid cliche despite it had no room to talk all things considered.

Admittedly they probably could of pulled it off with Raven being the pegasister but from what I have seen they just left it at that. The only funny thing about that is Tara Strong voices Raven and Twilight Sparkle....that's it.

i don't think most of the people making jokes about mlp actually watched the show for more than like 2 minutes.

[up][up][up]This.

It doesn't help that some people working on it really don't seem to put some sort of care or effort into it. The fact that they say they're "accidentally stealing" from other shows and that they don't want "smart humor" doesn't help.

[up],[up][up]Considering the MLP parody in this show comes off as more like Strawberry Shortcake, I'd say 2 minutes is too generous.

By the way...is talking about the weird issues with this shows creators qualify as complaining or whining? Because I really am not trying to do that...I am just mystified about these writers attitudes. I have seen writers of shows before react in ways you would expect if there show isn't going over well.

But Go!'s creators have managed to be a strange exception to that. I have never seen such a blatant response to criticism. It truly makes me wonder if they hate the show as well or something (I have heard about that happening before. Heck Family Guy is going through that right now).

i think it's fine to criticize the show, nothing's perfect after all. not like anybody is being negative towards this show for the sake of being negative.
