It is your first year at a the Axion High School, a very prestigious school that is well known for having been where many professionals got their education from. Be it netbattling, languages or history, no matter what your area is, this school is known for being of the best.

Of course, living in a world where virtually everything is connected to the internet, a lot of trouble can come up anywhere from time to time be it on a large or small scale. While on one hand it can be problematic to deal with, at the same time it brings out some excitement to fix the problems of the net with your very own NetNavi partner

With that in mind, a new school life opens up for you where you might meet many interesting people and their own Navis and solve all sorts of crisis while at it, after all, not all trouble in this internet connected world is accidental...

Setting

This RP is mainly going to be set at the school where our characters are going to study in as well as the surrounding areas and, for the Navis, the wide internet.

It's mainly Slice of Life, this RP aims to be pretty much like a Battle Network game, with more focus on the school life and less on danger in a world-wide scale. Trouble is still going to pop up for our characters to solve or maybe even create depending of the circunstances and while some will be more serious than others, it's likely going to be a more localized thing.

This RP is also set in its own universe, mostly for convenience so that people can have some more freedom when selecting what Navi they want their character to have.

Tone

This aims to be much like a Megaman Battle Network game and as such the tone is going to be pretty lighthearted though nothing stops it from going a bit darker at times, just don't go too overboard with it.

Meta

For the most part I'm going to let the players do their own thing and even make their own story arcs and stuff like that. I'll be there mostly to keep things under control so that it doesn't get problematic. However, before you start doing something big, run the idea with everyone or at least with me in a PM so that any possible issues can be cleared up.

Navis and Net Battles

For those that don't know Navis are the personal navigators of the internet for the humans, as the internet became far too complex for regular people to be able to fully utilize it. As such the Navis do a multitude of tasks for them and the Navis themselves have very humanlike personalities to make them more relatable to their operators.

Like in the actual series, the Navis are mainly based on the Robot Masters of the classic Megaman franchise while having some original ones and some from the other series. As such for a Net Navi you can choose any Robot Master/NetNavi/Maverick from the Classic, BN and X series as those are the three series I'm the most familiar with, you can also make your own Navi if you feel like it. Main characters like Megaman, Protoman, Zero and etc are off-limits (with the exception of Gutsman.EXE).

The Net Navis are going to stay mostly in the internet world, though there may be some situations where they can be brought into the real world as the RP goes.

As for the netbattles between Navis, just like how in the games you can get data from a defeated Navi in order to get a new chip, Navis here all have a Weapon Chip that if they lose, the opposing operator can download and have it in their arsenal (the chip isn't "stolen" though, it's just that a copy is made and given to the opponent).

The same can happen to the Giga Chip, though it's going to be a rarer occurence, still, Operators can only use one Giga Chip per battle.

To decide what's going to happen after the end of a battle in regards to if they're gonna get one of the Navis's unique chips, I'll simply let the RNG decide after a battle ends.

Getting chips from Viruses is also going to work in pretty much the same way, after the confront with the viruses is done the Navis can scan their data and try to get their chips from what remained, or maybe get money from them.

I've thought of implementing Navi summons like we have in the game as well, but I'm not sure on whether I should or not.

Sign-up sheet

All right, here's the sign up sheet:

Humans:

  • Name:
  • Gender:
  • School Year: (For convenience let's have our character be in either 11th or 12th grade)
  • Age: (Going with the above, age should be at 16-18 years unless there's a reason for someone younger or older being there)
  • Appearance:
  • Personality:
  • Skills: (What's your character good at? Could be something as small as being capable of reading very quickly or something more notable such as being really good with computers)
  • Bio: (why did they choose to go to Axion? How did they manage to get there? What of significance happened in their life prior to getting in the school?)
  • Battlechips (Choose 5 regular chips from eitherofthese selections, try to choose something that fits with your Navi choise)

Navi

  • Name:
  • Gender: (Male, Female or Neutral depending on how they were programmed)
  • Appearance: (if an original Navi, describe it here, if you have a picture or are using a canon Navi, just offer a link to their design.)
  • Personality:
  • Affinity: (None, Fire, Water, Elec, Wood, Wind, Sword, Break or Cursor, choose the one that fits your Navi the best, for a more detailed explanation about each, see here)
  • Abilities: (things such as being able to float, teleport short distances, being able to walk on ice without sliding, etc, that are more passive abilities go here)
  • Custom
    • Special Attack: (A special attack the Navi can do without the help of their operator, nothing too strong but that gets the job done)
    • Weapon Chip: (A special chip the operator has that offers their Navi without an unique attack or defense move)
    • Giga Chip: (Essentially your Navi's Limit Break, something very powerful but don't go too crazy)

Clarification request on the "no main characters" rule: Do you mean "anyone who has been a main character of a Mega Man subseries" or just the Battle Network subseries? In other words, could someone have, say, X as a NetNavi?

[up][up][up]Seeing as he mentions Zero in his list of main characters that can't be Net Navi'd, Megaman X is probably not allowed either.tongue

To be specific, the ones that are not allowed

  • Any incarnation of Megaman
  • Roll
  • Protoman
  • Bass
  • Duo (if only because his BN version is a final boss)
  • Zero
  • Axl
  • Sigma
  • Colonel
  • General
  • Iris
  • Gate
  • Lumine
  • Dr.Doppler
  • Epsilon
  • Colonel Redips
  • Glyde.EXE

Basically no main heroes (though the party members from X Command Mission are fine with the exception of X, Zero and Axl obviously) and villains. Minor villains such as Vile, Dynamo and Double are all right though.

I'm a bit on the fence whether Colonel and Iris should be allowed as well.

lightdark: Considering the fact that a version of Zero has, in fact, made an appearance in a leading role (namely, as one of the primary antagonists of a game) in the Battle Network subseries, I felt it was still worth asking.

Anyway, tentative interest, but we'll see if I manage to come up with someone to play as when applications are opened up.

[up] After thinking of it for a bit I think I won't allow either of them mainly because Colonel kinda is a main character after he's introduced and Iris is a bit of a special Navi that probably doesn't work the same way as the others.

Anyway, sign-up sheets are on the OP now as well as some other things I meant to add. Also, one human and one Navi per player, though I'll have two characters just because GM privileges it'll likely be better for handling different scenes at once without relying too much on NP Cs.

Here's the sheet for one of my characters that you guys can use as a base:

  • Name: Stella Armstrong
  • Gender: Female
  • School Year: 11th Grade
  • Age: 16
  • Appearance: She's shorter than average, giving her the appearance of being younger than she really is. She has long blonde hair with one braid in each side. She has small black eyes and her skin is somewhat pale. She's typically seen wearing a white t-shirt with her Navi's symbol on it, as well as a blue skirt. She often is wearing a pair of star earrings and a blue ribbon on her hair, she also tends to carry a dark blue retractable telescope with her.
  • Personality: She's a very happy-go-lucky girl who posseses a child-like enthusiasm about the things she's interested on. She has quite the sassy side to her, however, and can show herself to be surprisingly sharp witted when among her friends. She's caring and gentle normally, but is quite emotional and as such she often lets her emotions get out of control and does something stupid.
  • Skills: She's very knowledgeable in the area of astronomy and astrology. She's also very good at cooking, particularly sweets. She also knows quite a lot about camping.
  • Bio: Thanks to hearing a lot from her father about his job at a space center, Stella grew to be fascinated with space and often spent time trying to learn more and more about the fascinating universe she lived in. As such, she eventually got StarMan.EXE as her Navi as a birthday gift when she was younger, having been made to help her with her hobby, as well as later receiving her own telescope. She ended up spending a lot of her time gazing at the stars, which also resulted in her developing a somewhat nocturnal schedule and often losing sleep when she lost track of time. She often went camping when an opportunity presented itself mostly because it resulted in her being in more open spaces where she could see the stars more clearly, but also because she always felt more in touch with nature than with the city. After a lot of saving money from her parents part, Stella and her brother managed to get into the Axion High School, her being the one pushing for it the most, as she really wanted to get the best education she could in order to eventually fulfil her dream of going to space.
  • Battlechips
    • TrnArrow3
    • MoonBlade
    • GunSol2
    • Barrier
    • Recover

Navi

  • Name: Star Man.EXE
  • Gender: Male
  • Appearance: The Intergalactic Sprite
  • Personality: He's a very calm individual and always acts like he's at the top of the situation even when things are looking dire for him. He's pretty casual and relaxed when speaking with others, but he tends to underestimate his opponents when fighting and in general doesn't expect much from others. He acts as a sort of mediator for Stella, often having to make sure she doesn't spend too much time on her hobby.
  • Affinity: None
  • Abilities: He can float and also teleport small distances, leaving a trail of golden sparkles behind him.
  • Custom
    • Special Attack: Meteor - StarMan summons a group of six small meteors that hail down from above in hopes of hitting his opponent, he usually does that while teleporting at the same time.
    • Weapon Chip: Star Arrow - His hands morphs into a large bow and he fires a big arrow that starts moving slowly, but speeds up soon afterwards. Due to the size of the arrow, it's possible for someone to ride it.
    • Giga Chip: Meteor Shower - Essentially the same as Meteor, but he summons a lot more meteors that proceed to bombard most of the area, the only safe area being typically the area right behind or under him.

I'll post my second character later.

Adapted most of this off a Sign-up from a past Battle Network RP. If there's any problems with it I can change them immediately!

Net Op

  • Name: Mike Giocoso
  • Gender: M
  • Age: 17
  • Appearance: Slightly-tanned skin with black, curly hair and brown eyes, stands at 5'6" with a lightly muscular build. Clothing is often basic but light; A green hoodie or jacket, often concealing a black t-shirt featuring the logo of whatever band or artist he's listening to the most that day. Wears blue jeans and green-accented tennis shoes. Often seen with large, bulky green headphones around his neck which plug into his PET.
  • School Year: 11th Grade
  • Personality: Mike is a laid-back, joyful guy who just likes to go with the flow. Though he's often found with his headphones up, listening to his music at full blast, he loves to talk with others and is a great listener. Though he loves all forms of music, his absolute favorite genre is Electro Rock.
  • Bio: Coming from a family of distinguished, traditional musicians, Mike has always had a profound interest in music since the day he was born. However, instead of having an interest in instruments, Mike enjoyed the creation of music from his fingertips; composing music through the use of his computer and the tech of today was much more exciting than playing the piano or a violin. Though his parents never really saw eye-to-eye for his preference to 'electronic' music, they did give him a fully customized Net Navi, personalized to aid in music, at the age of 10. He instantly grew attached to this program, which went by the name of Beatman.exe. Two years later, Mike and Beat had their first Net Battle. A simple fight against a bully in middle school, which nonetheless sparked a great enthusiasm within the two. Net Battles made them feel truly in sync with one another. Since then, Mike has been going with the flow, participating in netbattling tournaments and developing music on his computer. His parents, wanting him to have the grounds of a stable musical occupation, have enrolled him at Axion High to hopefully find more of a balance behind his technical and physical pursuits.
  • Skills:
    • Mike and Beat are highly in-sync with each other on any occasion.
    • Although he dislikes playing instruments, a few years of piano and drum lessons have left him fairly proficient in the usage of both.
  • Battlechips:

Net Navi

  • Name: Beatman.exe (Often goes by 'Beat')
  • Gender: Male
  • Appearance: A heavily music-based Navi, it shows a lot in his design; Large, brass-like headphones covering where ears should be, with a visor the conceals the Net Navi's eyes. The rest of his head is obscured by a green helmet, with only the bottom-half of his face uncovered. When in a serious battle, a mouthguard appears as well, fully covering his face. Has a standard, human-like build, similar to Megaman or Protoman, mostly in black and green. Black wires feed from his headphones to a vertical brass boombox on his back. His insignia is a three arcs spreading out like a soundwave.
  • Personality: Unlike his Operator, Beat is much more energetic and active, always tapping his foot or bobbing his head to an imaginary rhythm. He was designed to greatly enjoy music, and he often is listening to the same track that Mike is listening to. Although he can perfectly hear people while listening to music, sometimes he may get a little to wrapped up in it, in which case he'll need to be snapped out of his groove.
  • Affinity: Elec
  • Abilities:
    • Beat is easily able to synchronize, not only with Mike but with other Net Navis as well, knowing the right moment when to follow up after someone's attack..
    • Beat moves at an odd rhythm while battling, never staying in one place for too long.
  • Custom
    • Special Attack: Sound Wave - Releases a visible wave of sound which spreads out around an area. It loses impact the further it is away, but the closer one is to Beat, the more it hurts. Close up, it may also momentarily paralyze the opposing Navi.
    • Weapon Chip: Up-Tempo - Summons a dark-green trumpet stand that bursts an upbeat theme song. For a short period of time, gives the user great increase in speed, also allowing for the faster input of Battlechips.
    • Giga Chip: Audio Rupture - A large area-of-effect blast of sound emanating from Beat's boombox which can cause a number of side effects to enemies; Mute, Blindness or Paralysis.

[up] He's fine outside of his Weapon Chip. Since it's going to be something that other Navis might get access to during the RP, making Beat be the only one able to listen to it is a bit weird. I think it also would be better if the chip made a radio or something show up on the arena to play the tune, since other Navis most likely won't have a boombox attached to their back =V

Hmm... Let's see if I can put someone together. Tempted to try showing up as a member of the faculty, but I doubt that'd fly. Incidentally, I figure "things your character is particularly bad at" fit under Skills too, so I put something to that effect there.

  • Operator Name: Alexander Reynolds XXXVI (prefers Alex, since it's less pompous)
  • Operator Gender: Male
  • School Year: 12th Grade
  • Age: 17
  • Operator Appearance: Alex is about 5'7" tall with a wiry build. He's an albino, so he has incredibly pale skin, white hair, and red eyes. He wears a hoodie and sunglasses regardless of weather to help protect him from the sun, and has requested that the school accommodate this fashion choice for medical reasons.
  • Operator Personality: Alex is subdued, rational, and rather humble, but highly loyal to those he cares for. Of course, this loyalty does NOT come in the form of "do whatever they want" but rather "try to keep them from doing anything stupid that'll come back to bite them." And of course, nothing will protect you from his snarking, regardless of his opinion; the only thing that changes is how harsh he is about it. That said, trying to control people's lives, especially in defiance of all reason, is a good way to make him hate you.
  • Skills: He's a fast reader, good at critical thinking, and a passable repairman. Of course, his outdoors skills are pretty much nil.
  • Bio: Alex comes from a wealthy background; however, his parents were highly controlling when he was younger, demanding that he receive and excel in the best education programs and avoid potentially-harmful activities (such as pretty much every sport ever). His application to Axion High School was his way of escaping their control without them suspecting anything, as shown by his application's specification that he wished to live in a student dormitory. Of course, his parents refused to let him go without both an able partner and a form of indirect control, and thus gave him his NetNavi: BKuwanger.exe. Of course, he predicted they would use said Navi to spy on him, and thus requested that it scan itself for trojans or other malware at the first opportunity, and so any controlling behavior is purely the Navi's fault.
  • Battlechips:
    • Boomer
    • HiBoomer
    • Sword
    • AntiDamage
    • Invisible

  • Navi Name: BKuwanger.exe (Alex tends to call him Boomer)
  • Navi Gender: Neutral
  • Navi Appearance: Pretty much like the Maverick Hunter X version of Boomer Kuwanger (I'd link, but I don't know where to find a stable picture host)
  • Navi Personality: Picky about how things are done, though this is largely because he thinks he knows how it "should" be done; he'll stop complaining if you manage to get results. Rather distant otherwise, since he thinks that's how mentor figures should act. At least he understands the need for biologicals to unwind after a day of study, unlike Alex's parents...
  • Affinity: Sword
  • Abilities: Short-range teleportation, fading in and out of view with a distinctive buzz
  • Custom:
    • Special Attack: Dead Lift - Boomer teleports to the target in order to grab it with his horns; if successful, he suplexes them.
    • Weapon Chip: Boomerang Cutter - Boomer throws a bladed boomerang straight forward; this attack can potentially hit twice- once each way. Sword-element, despite being a ranged attack.
    • Giga Chip: Rapid Boomerang Cutter - Boomer throws multiple sets of three Boomerang Cutters in three different directions. Still Sword-element.

Incidentally, I'm planning on this Navi being an in-universe derivative of CutMan.exe. In the games, the Rapid Boomerang Cutter would throw one boomerang per row per set; the above description is the closest I could approximate it without resorting to game terminology. I'm not sure exactly how many sets he should throw yet, so I'm hoping for GM input on that.

[up][up] Depends on what you mean by a Navi encyclopedia

[up] Everything looks fine though as I mentioned in the sheet I kinda want the characters to be in either the 11th or 12th grade if only so that the characters don't get too spread out

About the Giga Chip, oddly nowhere I look can I find that Cutman move you mentioned but from what I understand from it, it's basically rapid-firing boomerangs in a way that covers a wide area, right?

As for faculty members, I might let you guys create and play your own NP Cs later as the RP goes on.
