Double post, but I have news

Not very promising news, but still.

...So, anyone notices a pattern lately?

[up] Capcom clearly wants to prove they do everything better than Mighty No 9. Even audience alienation.

[up][up]I dunno, "terrible" might be an overstatement.

I actually quite dig it. Looks like "TRON meets, well, Mega Man".

At the very least, it looks like they've paid more attention to the games in terms of proportions than the last Mega Man show by America.

EDIT: Although if I'm honest, I'm more concerned about the name.

"Aki Light"? Is there some unfortunate implication about the name "Rock Light" that we don't know about?

Mega Man goes through redesigns all the time...this isn't really part of pattern, there's just new universe rules.

YO. Rules of the Internet 45. Rule 45 is a lie.

That one piece of art makes the 90s show look professional, though, it's just... Terrible. If anything, the Tron Lines are the worst part, it makes him look overdesigned and generic - the Truforce MMX figure design is how you do Tron Lines on Mega Man. And the premise is a gigantic cliche storm, not to mention we already got two Wake Up, Go to School & Save the World sub-series in the form of Battle Network and Star Force, and they still had unique aspects that made it actually somewhat interesting.

They should've just done a faithful adaptation of the Archie comic and got Ian Flynn to write it. Bloody hell.

It's a cool enough physical design but the generic high school plot and unnecessary name change has me very [tdown].

That said, it's supposed to be for ages 6 to 9 so it kinda makes sense. The school thing, anyway. The name change is still dumb.

Yeah, the Tron Lines I'm fine with. It's just the name that's got me.

Seriously, what's wrong with "Rock Light"? Is there really some unfortunate implication going on?

Because back in the 80's, I think "rock" was used as a slang term for cocaine, so what's this show's excuse?

Dreamwave's Mega Man comic did a Rock-at-school-undercover thing. (He took the name Rocky.)

The Ruby-Spears Mega Man cartoon also did a whole episode about Dr. Light making a college for robots. (Then Wily showed up and ruined things.)

I can't believe I'm playing underdog here, but.

Holy shit, this looks terrible. And a generic high school plot? Really?

People complained about Spider Man's costume in Captain America Civil War. Movie comes out. Suddenly he's the best depiction of Spider Man ever. The difference here is Spider Man had 5 seconds of face time in the trailer, and we have a promotional picture.

If anything, the Tron Lines are the worst part, it makes him look overdesigned and generic - the Truforce MMX figure design is how you do Tron Lines on Mega Man.

I actually like this design more than the Battle Network one, which has far more changes, long hair, and a dark blue onesie.

That one piece of art makes the 90s show look professional, though

The Ruby-Spears design wasn't bad. Compare to the original design?

And the premise is a gigantic cliche storm, not to mention we already got two Wake Up, Go to School, Save the World sub-series

Eh. Age 6 to 9 demographic.

in the form of Battle Network ... and they still had unique aspects that made it actually somewhat interesting.

...the hell it did. NT Warrior was a chopped salad of cliches.

It could be that Aki Light is his civilian name and Rock is his 'real' name. I mean, let's say he was called Rockman and there's a kid named Rock that looks just like him. That would raise a few eyebrows XD

Intended demographic range is not an excuse for looking generic.

I can live with the plot. It's the new look I don't like. Specifically the face.

That said, I'm not judging until it comes out. I'm often accused of being overly critical, but no one can say I don't give everything a chance.

It's a little early to write it off as utterly generic.

Its still better than Battle Network Megaman. It actually looks like Megaman for one. Two, Tron Lines are cool.

YMMV. While I haven't heard many defending Maguire's version, I have heard a lot of fans argue that although his movies got bogged down in shit, Andrew Garfield was still the superior Spider-Man to Tom Holland.

It could be that Aki Light is his civilian name and Rock is his 'real' name. I mean, let's say he was called Rockman and there's a kid named Rock that looks just like him. That would raise a few eyebrows XD

He's only Rockman in Japan; Man of Action is an American studio. This isn't an anime getting localized, it's a Western cartoon, so he's Mega Man.

Mega Man is the secret identity of a normal child who goes to school? Sounds familiar...

...that joke was probably already made though, bleh. Anyways, the design itself looks nice. I'd have a hard time imagining how Man of Action's style would look using the classic Mega Man design, so I'm glad they reworked it into something more suited to them.
I'll reserve judgement for until I've seen the show, but I like the groundwork so far. The hidden programming thing could be interesting if they bother to develop that at all, but with the target demographic bit I'm not sure if we'll get an interesting Myth Arc going or not.

My first impression is I don't really like the design, but I think I'd need to see more of him, from different angles to be sure. It might just be that since he's crouching down, that the perspective I'm seeing him from is weird.

I think part of the reason I might not like it is they tried to make him look Chibi (like OG megaman), and kind of menacing/ angry at the same time, and that just doesn't really work for me.

Then again, I was never a HUGE fan of the megaman games or the Ruby Spears show. I've played some of X and Battle network, but none of the original nes ones, even though I owned a nes. Just wasn't something we ever bought I guess. And I only really watched a few episodes of the 90's cartoon here and there.
