Does Not Illustrate: Fixed Forward Facing Weapon

The current picture is nice, but it has the problem of being also an example of Converging-Stream Weapon, thus confusing a little what it is supposed to illustrate.

I would suggest instead using a picture of an Ori Warship from Stargate SG-1 firing its main weapon: [1] [2] [3]

My favorite is the first one...

Previous thread.

The current works, but I'd definitely be open to other options so I'll give this a run. The second suggestion isn't working and the first and third are opening at thumbnail size.

Here's some options from 40K: Vindicator, Deimos Vindicator, Deimos Vindicator Laser Destroyer

I'm not a fan of the Stargate ones, which look at least somewhat aimable (especially in the first picture; the laser appears to be firing on a path that's a few degrees off from being straight ahead.) The current example makes it clear that you can't aim it, as does the tank in [up]

[up][up] That's pretty good. I was going to suggest the A-10 Warthog but I couldn't find a good pic of its gatling firing.

I thought of the Warthog too, but the actual fun-dispenser is almost entirely within the plane, so you don't see much of it.

Not sure which part is the weapon itself, in ^. Undecided on the others, otherwise.

The Revolver Starships in Haruhi? [1][2][3][4] (I like 2)

Also calling the current a non-example. The beam that comes out is aimable at anything in the front arc, it was shown many times in the show.

Also going to say no to the X-Wing, the trope specifically calls fast maneuverable fighters out as to common for the trope. This trope is about big main guns on slow capital ships, tanks and the like. They have one big powerful gun but it isn't hooked up to a turret system so it only shoots one direction, straight forward, but when it hits something it is or is damn near a 1 shot.

10 would be quite a nice illustration, except I'm a bit worried that it could be confused for the rear of the ship (i.e. an actual reactor), the gun being so freaking huge.

Talking about freaking huge reminded me about the Planet Killer: Model; Artwork of it firing

9.1 and 9.3 are good, too. Not sussed on the Haruhi ships either.

To throw another possibility into the mix, how about this shot of the Kraken firing, from Wing Commander Prophecy?

(My original thought was of the Concordia from WC2, but couldn't find a suitable image that wasn't a GIF.)

As for other suggestions, 9.1 looks like it's a fighter-sized craft, which the trope description mentions doesn't really count towards the trope. I also echo the concerns about the Haruhi examples.

[up] 9.1 is actually a tank, it's just from an alien race where everything in their design aesthetic is flowing organic curves.

We're talking about the warp hunter, or did I somehow really screw things up? Because it may be a tank, but from that angle it looks like a fighter you'd see soaring high above the battlefield, not crawling through the muck down on the ground.

If you're thinking 40K but don't want some sort of hover-tank, then perhaps some of the Imperial Tanks that are armed with BFGs?

Another real life suggestion . The support makes it pretty clear the gun is fixed.

The support is for when it's at rest. The barrel can elevate, which I'm not sure about counting as far as "have to turn the whole thing to aim" (the core of the trope) goes.

I have a suggestion, screencaptured from the game, Homeworld.

I can try to create an image which doesn't show the damage level and group numbers, if they're too distracting. It won't be exactly the same scene of course since I need to capture it while playing.

Well if an X-Wing is too small and maneuverable, what about the Death Star?
