EAT YOUR GREENS
#1: May 10th 2015 at 6:06:54 PM

The Craftlands are in fairly deep trouble.

Recently, a mysterious man named Herobrine has been destroying villages left and right. Nobody seems to be able to stop the glowing-eyed man - it appears that he can travel large distances to attack places miles apart in the same night, he can fly, and whatever wounds he has seem to vanish. To make matters worse, he’s started to erect strange obsidian structures in the places he visits, and a few scientists have identified these as something very bad indeed.

Many humans suspect that their fellow traders, the testificates, are harboring Herobrine and thereby allowing him to make attacks. The testificates, of course, vehemently deny this and are quite certain that the man is actually being sheltered by humankind. Tensions are brewing, and trade between the two is becoming increasingly more difficult.

To make matters even worse, Void siders - a group of cultists worshipping the fallen god of Darkness - have been becoming more bold, claiming their deity will rise and consume the world in nothingness. They’ve been attacking churches of Notch in an attempt to scare people, and it seems to be working.

Meanwhile, the Nochites have their own agenda and have been trying to worm their way into high government, with an end goal of eventually having one of their own on the throne once the current king dies. Many people are opposed to this, but the Holy Church of Notch has been steadily growing in power and it seems like this may come to pass after all.

In the midst of all this, ten people find themselves in the same town, Silverspring. What happens from there on?

It’s anyone’s guess.

Character Guidelines

(For an overview of the intelligent races, go here.)

(For an overview of the elements, go here.)

Everything marked with a () is optional. See under this form for very important notes on character building.

Name:

Age:

Gender:

Species:

Appearance:

Personality:

()Element:

()Gift:

Flaw:

Backstory:

Future Goals:

Void siders must have another species, but can be any other species. Please indicate that your character is on side Void by adding the word Void in parentheses directly after your character’s species.

If your character is a Reborn, this is their apparent age; if they are a Wraith, this is how long they’ve been dead. All others should enter their current age. An important note - testificates and Creepers don’t live as long as humans, but halfworlders and Void siders live slightly longer.

Your character’s gender does not have to be what they were assigned at birth; they do not even necessarily have to have a binary gender. Whatever pronouns you use while filling out the rest of the character sheet will be the ones I use to describe them.

Appearance describes how they look physically - hair color, relative build, et cetera. You do not have to describe their outfit, but a general idea of how they clothe themselves would be nice.

Personality is how they generally act - what makes them angry, what they like, et cetera. Please be somewhat detailed here.

Element will describe what type of elementalist they are, if they are one. If your character is not one, you don’t have to fill this out at all. In addition, if they are side Void, add Dark to this space as well - so a Growth elementalist that went Void would have Growth and Dark, and a testificate that went Void would have Dark here.

Gifts are rare, but in essence what they are is an ability activated by something - for example, an Enderman’s ability to teleport when looked at is a gift. People with gifts can keep themselves from using it when the condition is triggered, but they cannot use their gift without having that condition present. Gifts never have offensive capabilities.

Flaws are your character’s greatest weakness, and should determine how they act to some extent - a character whose flaw is paranoia might be highly distrustful of others, a character whose flaw is cockiness might take on things far beyond their ability, et cetera. Characters must have a flaw.

Backstory is where they come from and anything particularly important that’s made them who they are.

A character’s future goals are what they hope to achieve in the future.

Name: Dr. Alistair

Age: 30

Gender: Male

Species: True Halfworlder

Appearance: Despite being only thirty, Dr. Alistair’s hair is completely white due to an accident in his Northern lab. Being a true halfworlder, his eyes are a purple color and emit ender particles. His hair is close cropped. Alistair has a relatively thin build and thin, gaunt face. Complexion-wise, he has pale skin but with dark, almost completely black, areas around his eyes, on his scalp, below his fingernails, insides of his wrists, and the areas in between his fingers all due to his ender heritage. Also, the veins beneath his skin, which on a normal human would be blue, are visibly black.

Normally, he either wears a dark brown testificate robe, a blue gambeson, or a white lab coat depending on the situation. He also carries an enderman mask. He is never without research notebook and surgical tools. For self defense he typically carries a testificate made Kriegsmesser.

Personality: Dr. Alistair is obsessed with his field of biological engineering. He is also fascinated with Herobrine and believes that he is the key to creating what he calls “the perfect biological being.” An organism which is intelligent, completely self sufficient, extremely athletic, nearly invincible, and nearly perfect in every way. Though many disagree with the feasibility of creating such an organism, Alistair is convinced of its possibility of this. His current theory is that it can be created by fusing a human, a testifacate, and an enderman using Herobrine as a catalyst. Alistair is paranoid about his void element and is constantly looking over his shoulder (often literally).

When it comes to general mannerisms, Alistair generally comes off as being nice enough. He is polite and knows how to handle himself in an aristocratic setting due to his time as the court researcher for the noble. He is used to being discriminated against due to his unusual appearance. While he does participate in activism for halfworlder equality, it takes the back seat to his research. Alistair is a bit irritable due to the constant pain from the water in his body. Despite this, it isn’t easy to send him into a full on rage. The only thing that really can is someone insulting his research or calling him mad, insane, or some variation thereof.

()Element: Dark ()Gift: Ender Teleporting Flaw: Obsessed with science to the point that he may end up betraying those around him to advance his research.

Backstory: Alistair was born into a halfworlder neighborhood in a large testificate town. He grew up experiencing discrimination for being a halfworlder. Despite this, a local noble took interest in him due to his apparent scientific brilliance. The noble had a casual interest in science and sent him to get an education at the college in the testificate capital where he studied biology. Upon returning, he became the court scientist where he performed many feats of biological engineering for the local populace such as breeding better cows and wheat. However, unbeknownst to his liege, Alistair also performed many experiments of questionable morality. His liege found out when Alistair was twenty-five and exiled him from his land. Instead of moving to another noble house, he instead decided to go North to a sparsely populated tundra to continue his research.

While there, he met a number of like minded scientists who began researching using the local wildlife and sentient population. Over time, several students joined them. This group became known as the ender scientists due to the enderman masks that they wore when “collecting” specimens. They ended up becoming feared throughout the North as the “endermen who kidnap people to turn them into monsters.” Most of the rumors and tales about them are largely exaggerated but it is true that they kidnapped animals and even people and performed human experimentation. Their main goal was to create Alistair’s “perfect biological being” by magically altering humans and testificates using enchanting. All the subjects were either turned into horrific aberrations or outright died. The experiments continued unsuccessfully until Alistair was thirty when the laboratory was attacked and destroyed by Herobrine leaving Alistair as the only survivor.

Instead of seeking revenge, Alistair instead decided that Herobrine could quite possibly be the key to creating the “perfect biological being.” He departed for the Craftlands to hunt for Herobrine where he eventually ended up in Silverspring.

Future Goals: To create the “perfect biological being”. Either using Herobrine or through some other method.

Name: Dr. Richard Simon Obisidan

Age: 31

Gender: Male

Species: Human

Appearance: A tall man of 6', wears a dark black Overcoat with a slight skull motif, a set of standard glasses and on the head a pair of large goggles. Slight tan in skin, a thick black beard with trimmed black hair, and of course, Purple Eyes

Personality: Obsidian is a intelligent man, capable of constructing his own robot army from his own designs, in fact all things mechanical seem to fall within his line of expertise. Be it robots to cars, if he wants to build a machine he will build a machine. He's a very proud person in his work, taking even his failures in construction in stride. However if one of his plans fails his reaction can very and he eventually loses it. Beyond that he is a very friendly and welcoming person and doesn't believe in the idea of revenge feeling it's a sucker's game.

Flaw: Pride.

Backstory: Obsidian came from a rich family, which is about the only positive he will ever say about them, it's unknown what they exactly did but he tried to distance himself from his family for awhile, but after complications in constructing a permanent base of his own he moved back to the abode of his heritage, his family's castle. From there he has made it his own and set about completing his work in constructing a army to conquer the world. Until Herobrine came along, make no mistake Obsidian is in it for his own goals but he can't exactly take over the world when another iron fisted rule is in place.

Future Goals: To complete his quest for World Domination on his own terms, and unite the world and fix all the wrongs within it.

In short a Token Evil Teammate who is pulling a Enemy Mine situation. Also the purple eyes is when I first designed him, it was meant to make him stand out in crowds for easy identification to the viewer, since he wasn't originally supposed to be human. Just look that way.

Name: Unknown (gets called "the Cloak" a lot).

Age: Unknown (appears young adult).

Gender: Male.

Species: Unknown (appears human).

Appearance: The Cloak, predictably, doesn't show much skin. He is a tall, imposing figure, and he wears a thick leather cloak of pitch black, with a deep hood. This hood, in combination with the tendrils of darkness that constantly writhe over his skin, serve to hide his face. When he does pull back his hood, he reveals that his entire face is covered in the Void Mark, which extends down under his clothes. One eye is pitch black, the other a pure unbroken sphere of white. Which eye is which switches occasionally. When not wearing his cloak, he wears either a polished suit of armor or the bloodstained robes of a testificate.

Personality: Cloak is a textbook soldier of fortune. He's in it for himself, and doesn't let anybody think otherwise. Incapable of empathy, as well as most emotions and pain, Cloak doesn't get along with people, and doesn't need to. Despite this, he does have a strict code of honor, and reacts badly to dishonorable behavior. The Cloak’s code of honor is similar to that of Malcolm Reynolds, which can be summed up in the quote “If I ever kill you, you'll be awake. You'll be facing me, and you'll be armed.” The Cloak doesn’t take kindly to betrayal.

Element: Darkness (extremely powerful, but effectively powerless).

Gift: The God of the Void withholds all dominion over the element of darkness for as long as the cloak exists. In return, the cloak has extremely good fortune.

Flaw: Amnesiac, sociopathic, somewhat selaphobic, and half blind.

Backstory: Cloak woke up naked in the middle of a village, surrounded by the corpses of the testificate population, as well as a few adventurers. All of the corpses had been gutted, eviscerated, exsanguinated, and otherwise damaged. Cloak could remember nothing about his life, and set off to find answers, after peeling the blood-soaked robes from the most intact villager. He set off in a direction, and followed the road. He was happened upon by a highway patrol and was attacked on sight due to the condition of his robes. Armed with only his fists, luck, and muscle memory, he left the police broken and bleeding on the ground beneath him. He took the leader's fine black leather cloak, and kept walking, feeling no remorse. For the last ear, he’s been building his reputation and his fortune, and is one of the most feared mercenaries in the area. Recently, he came across an old man in a tavern, who advised him (after several drinks) to make the journey to Silverspring.

Future goals: He just wants to find out where he came from. And money. Lots and lots of money.

Name: Eden

Age: 20

Gender: A mystery to all involved. Uses they/them pronouns.

Species: True Halfworlder (ex-Void)

Appearance: Eden keeps bundled up and is fairly reclusive, so it's hard to say what they look like. Their body shape is muffled by layers of thick baggy clothing, and very little of their skin is visible. But really all that needs to be seen is the face to discover who and what Eden is. They're dark-skinned, with black hair and vibrantly purple eyes. A black tattoo runs from below their left eye to take up their entire cheek; their curly hair, while tied up in the back, is loose in front to try and cover it. The eye itself is hidden under a medical patch and is functionally useless.

Any signs of their Ender heritage save for the eyes are carefully covered up and hidden; even their face is usually behind a hastily-constructed mask that, combined with their concealing clothes, makes them look like some strange sort of creature. Underneath it, they look mostly human, but... off. Anyone can tell without a doubt that they're not fully human.

Personality: Eden comes off as worryingly detached. They are cautious in actions and movements, yet don't seem to fully understand the nuances of the situation they've found themself in. They show very little openly, and by most are pegged as "suspicious".

Inside, they are a good person, if very frightened. They care about the Craftlands and feel it is their home, and were willing to defect from the Voidsiders if it meant protecting it. Their choice cost them much, however, and their resolve has been shaken now that they're aware of the consequences of their decision.

If convinced to speak, Eden is very polite and uses few words. Despite appearances, they can be easily provoked, and are not easy to get along with.

()Element: Dark, although mastery over it has rapidly diminished since defecting. Vaguely prophetic as a result, but it's since become nothing more than scattered fragments.

()Gift: Eden can "blink" when aware of people staring at them. When Eden "blinks", the only criteria for them to end up is "away and out of sight" (within the local area of course), which often leads to them taking refuge in trees or other odd places.

Flaw: Eden has taken a huge blow in in confidence; defecting from the Void has only made things worse for them, and the slow, painful death awaiting them combined with the condition caused by their heritage only makes matters worse. In a sense, they are a defeatist: they want to make a difference, but they know they can't.

Backstory: Eden made a bid for power and made a huge mistake. On paper it had been a simple idea. Join the Voidsiders and in return get what they needed to keep on living. "Once our god rises," they'd said to them, "you won't have to worry about pain and suffering."

What about the others?, Eden had asked in a mixture of worried glances and shaky hand gestures. There hadn't been an answer.

They don't remember when exactly they made their choice to break their oath. It was all a rush of hurried actions, of cutting ties and running like hell, and it wasn't until it was too late that they knew the punishment was certain death.

They don't know how long they have left to live. They just hope it's enough to make a difference.

Future Goals: At the very base of it, Eden wants to stay alive. They've lived with pain for most of their life, so they don't care if they're stuck with it forever anymore— just as long as they don't die.

Name: Jarl Bjormunde also called the Timberwolf

Age: 22

Gender: male

Species: human

Appearance: big for his age, very strong, always wears armor. Dark hair with a small beard and a wolf tattoo on his right arm and a longship on the other.

Personality: Honor-bound, but does not mind killing people if they give him a reason. A brilliant leader in battle and out of battle. Reserved and calloused.

Element: Growth

Gift: Berserker (Attacks wildly when near death without distinguishing friend from foe)

Flaw: Loyal (will gladly die for his good friends)

Backstory: The Timberwolf is the son of a skilled blacksmith, who taught him how to use a forge. From a young age, he would hunt the monsters of the north, and organized a small band of warriors to hunt with. Those warriors (boys and girls) became his most trusted soldiers later in life as he started to go on raids. On his first raid, when Timberwolf was 14, his father was killed next to him in a shield wall. Since then, Bjormunde has been leading raids, and is now a well respected Jarl. On his most recent raid, he was leading two longships. Out of nowhere a storm came up, separating the two ships and severely damaging Bjormunde's flagship, Haf Ulfr. Once landed, Bjormunde and his crew began to repair the ship when Herobrine attacked. Bjormunde commanded his crew to retreat before charging Herobrine with an axe. The axe shattered and Herobrine sent Bjormunde flying back. Bjormunde then went berserk, and the only thing he remembers is something along the lines of hitting Herobrine with a boulder.

Future Goals: Find his crew, head back to the Northlands, and seek vengeance on this attack.

Name: Taylor Sylvia “Sy” Thorburn

Age: 24

Gender: Female (Bisexual)

Species: Pureblood Human

Appearance: A literal knight in shining armor, Sy is luminous, her skin and long blonde hair slightly aglow, which only highlights the long thin scar that travels from the outside of her left eye across her jawbone and down her neck. She wears smooth flowing steel armor with gold highlights. She is armed with a rapier at her side and a broadsword on her back, and walks with confidence. She differs from the shining armor trope in that she is shorter than most knights, at 5’ 6” and is rather sensitive about it, liable to punch people in the face if they comment. Her form fits her height, but she is by no means petit. Having been building muscle from an early age, she is extremely well conditioned underneath her armor, and has a relatively high endurance. Personality: Sy is a genuinely good person, if naive. She is willing to accept that people can’t be perfect all the time. Despite her upbringing, Sy strives to see the best in others, even if it means making herself vulnerable. Having read too many idealistic novels, she is the type of person that might metaphorically put her forehead in front of the gun barrel, even if there is evidence that said person is ready and willing to shoot. Despite her generally cheery disposition, Sy is very protective of her church and her faith, and will her shit will do an acrobatic fucking pirouette off the hook at any perceived insult. Due to her past experience with the void-siders, Sy is very untrusting, but will try to make peace with them before any all-out attacks.

Element: Light (In tune with her God)

Gift: When her God, Thaes, is displeased with something or someone, she knows.

Flaw: Forgiving to a fault, naive to a fault, and low self-confidence.

Backstory: Sy was born into the Thorburn family, a prominent line of void-siders. Her household was rather unpleasant, both her parents being abusive; They treated her alternatively as an object to marry away, a pet, and a punching bag, irreparably damaging her self-esteem. She couldn't find solace with her peers, who were mostly jealous of her family’s position. There were, however, one or two children who seemed to like her. When she was thirteen, she started secretly dating a girl of the same age. When her parents found out, on the eve of her fourteenth birthday, which was also her initiation into the cult, they completely flipped out, and beat her within an inch of her life, leaving scars all over her body, including one on her face. This is notable because in the past they had never damaged areas that would be visible while she was wearing clothes. After they left her, bleeding and broken, she finally decided that it was time to leave. She ran out the door, and never looked back. She walked as far as she could, but eventually she succumbed to exhaustion. When she woke, She was in a simple wooden hut. She rose to find herself in new clothes, with bandages expertly wrapping her wounds. She learned that she had been found by a secretive sect of Thaes-worshipping monks, who had nursed her back to health. She learned that the sect was composed of highly trained warriors who fought the void-siders at every opportunity. She made the decision to join the monks, and devoted herself to her studied. Her years of enforced combat training were of great help, and she was initiated at the top of her class. She then took on the work of being one of the sect’s key fighters, hunting down members of the void. She never lost her motivation and kept climbing the ranks until she became the youngest avatar of Thaes ever, at age 23. (clarification: she is not actually the avatar of Thaes, that’s just her position in the monestary.) She traveled to Silverspring due to rumors of increased dark influence, as well as rumors that the infamous void mercenary “Cloak” had been spotted in the area, and she hopes to eliminate him and his compatriots if attempts at negotiation fail.

Future Goals: Purge the world of darkness, find her parents, find her girlfriend (if she isn’t dead).

P.S.: I’m writing this as if the craftlands is as sexist and heterocentric as the actual medieval era. I can edit that if that’s not how they are.

P.P.S.: Black Hat/Cloak, I know that your character isn’t actually affiliated with the void siders, I just think my character would assume that. I hope you don’t mind me putting your character (slightly) into my backstory!

P.P.P.S.: Thought I’d snag up the Paladin/Hero niche before anyone else! :3

[up]Accepted, just three things. First of all, at this point in time there are indeed areas of the Craftlands that are horrible with feminism, et cetera, but in general the place is better about this stuff. Too focused on inter-species hatred, I'd say.

Secondly, I'd say to scratch the gift. It's interesting, but it doesn't really do much of anything. If anything, it might be rather confusing because...

Lastly, there is indeed a Cult of Thaes. However, Sy would be wise not to get involved any more in the cult than she already is. Organized religion in the Craftlands tends to be dangerous.

Otherwise, great character!

[up] Yeah, That's fine. The gift was more flavor text than anything. If you did indeed have a canon cult of Thaes, then I suppose Sy's group would either be an entirely unrelated group, or a group that split off of the larger cult a while back due to idealistic differences.
