Or they kept their collective heads because because smart mobsters don't deal with super villains.

Or mess with super heroes.
There definitely is, or was, I don't know if they still exist, a Jewish Mafia
Trump delenda est@Swanpride
The "Mexican mafia" would be The Cartel, which carries its own incredibly negative batch of stereotypes.
Now I kinda want to see a French Mofia. Or Australian Mafia.
Oh and Justified did feature a couple of Canadian mobsters.
They're very polite about breaking your kneecaps.
Visit my Tumblr! I may say things. The Bureau ProjectI assumed that the remaining "ethnic mafias" simply lacked a strong presnece in the show's Hell's Kitchen. The Irish Mob I'm sure we'll eventually see because of Daredevil's Irish ancestry (and in a way we've already seen, the guy who tells Jack Murdock to throw the fight is clearly Irish-American).
"All you Fascists bound to lose."What is Fisk?
In the comics I believe he is, for lack of a better term, a mutt. Some Irish, some Italian, and a few other things. Don't quote me on that, though.
Fisk, to my knowledge, is usually portrayed as being just "white", strongly American anglo-saxon, but with no strong ethnicity connection or identification besides that. Most that I heard is that he has Italian ancestry.
The lack of strong ethnic filiation does match his plans to unify crime under his control, tresspassing ethnic and national loyalties between the lesser crime bosses.

"All you Fascists bound to lose."I read somewhere recently (though I can no longer remember where) that Fisk was actually supposed to be black at first, but was changed to avoid any racism.
I'm no longer sure of the legitimacy of that claim since I don't remember where I saw it, and can't confirm it.
One Strip! One Strip!I think I saw that on This Very Wiki. I dunno how legit the info is or where it came from either, but it's definitely interesting if true.

"The difference between reality and fiction is that fiction has to make sense." - Tom Clancy, paraphrasing Mark Twain.Nope, Wilson Fisk was always supposed to be white. His appearance was based on Sydney Greenstreet.
In the 2003 Daredevil movie, he was portrayed by Michael Clarke Duncan, though.
While that doesn't necessarily preclude the idea, I can't find anything online to corroborate it either. So... <shrug>

"The difference between reality and fiction is that fiction has to make sense." - Tom Clancy, paraphrasing Mark Twain. If you want French Mafia, then you should go for the Corsican one. You know, the guys from French Connection. They are still here, and I am sure they could work rather well even in an american show. They already have their own series, Mafiosa, about a 30-years old woman who becomes the head of her clan when her uncle gets assassinated (and it's rather good).
But I guess the usual mafias we see (Italian, Irish, Yakuza, Triad, Mexican, Russian) are already sharing the cake in the USA.
From what I know, Fisk's cast is similar to Ryan Reynolds in Green Lantern: the most recent, influential show had a black actor playing the guy, thus people assumed he would be black too in the subsequent adaptations.

I started watching this. I'm on 'Rabbit in a Snow Storm'. What an interesting entrance, Fisk!
Crow: There's a plot?Vincent D'Onfrio is impeccable in the role. He's violent and terrifying in one scene and in the next he's all adorkable and awkwardly asking a lady out to dinner in a way that makes him astonishingly likable for a split second before he goes on to smash a dude's skull to bits with a car door.
He's very Bobby Goren if Goren had just shuffled over a little to cross the Moral Event Horizon.

I can't wait to see him in action.
Crow: There's a plot?He is fabulous in action! How do even behead someone with a car door?? Crazy.
Which I'm he has quite a bit of.

Crow: There's a plot?Lots of muscle, I assume. And rage.
Not really behead so much as smash to mush above the neck.
"War without fire is like sausages without mustard." - Jean Juvénal des UrsinsSmash to mush and use the edges of the door, and a lot of strength, to weaken the attachment?
I like to think the New York Irish mob during the series had gone on a pub crawl and gotten lost on the east side thus missed the whole thing.
Yes the entire Irish mob because if you're gonna go for stereotypes you might as well swing for the fences.
