^ Right, 'cause 21 years later, we still don't forget Atlanta, where they accused the wrong guy of being the bomber.

As for Leland Drummond, if that's who Bethel's character is, I'd think that maybe they'll change his first name to avoid confusion with Leland Owlsley. After all, they changed Frank Simpson to Will Simpson for Jessica Jones (2015) which later allowed them to avoid confusion with Frank Castle.

Murdock Papers is also the arc where a imprisoned Fisk works with the FBI to sabotage DD's life by promising to give them evidence Murdock is DD (the eponymous Murdock Papers) in exchange of a "Get out of Jail Free" Card. It's the route of action that makes most sense for Fisk in the show, given he's currently in jail and seemingly knows Murdock is DD.

What this means for Matt is that we'll definitely see Karen working to clear his name throughout season 3.

It's quite possible, yeah.

I think they might just keep the Leland and refer to him on a last name basis only.

I actually thought of that idea at one point that Bethel's character could easily be a reinvented version of Leland Owlsley, Jr.

Hey, if they're willing to completely change Billy Russo's backstory for The Punisher, they can do the same for Leland Owlsley's son. It also certainly would explain why Owlsley Sr. would use the threat of Hoffman snitching to the FBI if he died when trying to leverage Fisk right before his death.

That'd be interesting.

On a related note, I can't reiterate enough that I want to see Matt's relationships with Karen and Foggy mend themselves. Charlie Cox said at this past weekend's panel that they're Matt's family. He couldn't say much, but that was what he essentially said: Karen and Foggy are Matt’s family and that Matt always want to keep them safe, and that he is interested in exploring Matt’s emotional side. With Karen and Foggy both now knowing the secret, how can the three of them rebuild what was broken in season 2?

I'd go so far as to say that in the future, I want a throwaway line in the first episode to pay off: Karen said when serving her lasagna to Matt and Foggy that it's "my grandmother's recipe, and she made me promise only to serve it to my future husband", and then proceeded to serve Matt, while also having her body and chair angled more towards Matt, and also maintaining constant eye contact with him. Who knows, maybe season 3 will end with Matt and Karen getting engaged, and then actually getting married in the next Defenders crossover.

And Matt probably is in need of a new costume since we don't know if the costume was damaged or destroyed under Midland Circle. Even if survived, it might not be salvagable, so I'd imagine that the first episode or two of season 3 might actually see Matt running around in his season 1 costume while he waits for Melvin to tailor him a new suit. (There's no way Matt didn't get rid of the old season 1 costume even after Melvin built the armor. He probably would need a spare suit just in case. I mean, I upgraded my phone, my Fitbit, and my laptop this year and I still keep the originals around just as backups).

Turning Lee Owlsley into an FBI agent, he could end up playing much the same role as Dinah Madani in The Punisher: someone who is actively pursuing Fisk at the same time Matt, Karen and Foggy are, but for different reasons. Dinah wanted to uncover Kandahar to get justice for Ahmed Zubair, while Frank wanted to uncover Kandahar to get revenge for his family's death. The motives would be reversed here: Matt, Karen and Foggy want to get justice for the people in Hell's Kitchen who have been hurt by Fisk, while Lee Owlsley Jr. wants to get justice for his father's death, because he loved his dad, even if he was involved in shady white collar criminal activity.

And now we have some set photos:

They appear to show Karen standing near citizens protesting Wilson Fisk's release.

I'm convinced that Fisk is probably going to use legal chicanery to get out of prison, given that the protesters are holding signs with slogans like "LOCK FISK UP!" and "COP KILLER!!" and "STOP AND FISK HIM!" (I'd be guessing Karen is either there to cover the trial for the Bulletin, or more likely, she's there seeking to get a glimpse of Fisk walking free so she can stoke her anger and be motivated into going after him with help from Matt once she learns Matt is alive)

Someone on Reddit actually told me that Matt and Fisk are basically now both men seeking to rebuild after falling hard. Fisk fell in season 1, and Matt has had his fall happen over the course of season 2 and The Defenders. Both have hit rock bottom and have to rebuild.

The slogans saying "COP KILLER" suggest to me that Fisk is at least on trial for the murder of Detective Blake and the cops shot by the sniper at the standoff with Matt and Vladimir. I have a theory that Donovan is essentially going to Johnnie Cochran this whole routine to get his client off and paint Fisk as a victim. This will likely include discrediting Hoffman, discrediting Nelson & Murdock (and assassinating Matt and Karen on cross-examination, as the sketchier two), and blaming Wesley for any charges that can't be disproved.

Speaking of the Russians, I still can't believe I saw an actor with a fairly prominent position in a Marvel Netflix show and a season of Power Rangers.

I'm a little disappointed Marvel doesn't have any prominent Sentai parodies/homages we could see in the MCU.

Besides Supaidaman, I guess.

Marvel should take some Japanese hero tropes like sentai, magical girls, and kamen rider and use them to pad out Japan's superhero population

I mean if America can have two hundred superheroes, Japan can have a few more

Although the key obviously is to do it respectfully which would probably be a problem

Right now, to recap what we seem to know about season 3's direction: expect classic Kingpin moments from Fisk during season 3, as well as Karen's mysterious past, and some elements and themes of "Born Again," going off what Charlie Cox, Deborah Ann Woll and Vincent D'Onofrio have said in interviews.

According to @olv on Twitter, they're apparently shooting this weekend on the block where Midland Circle exteriors were filmed. I'm guessing either we're getting a flashback to how Matt survived, or maybe it's Karen visiting the memorial to Daredevil, and getting surprised by Matt.

The alternate theory I had about Matt's survival is that Karen will find out first anyways, long before Foggy. Either she stumbles upon Matt at the convent, Father Lantom brings her to him, or something else.

You know what I remembered today? Roscoe Sweeney (the guy who killed Jack Murdock) is still alive and kicking. He is supposed to be imprisoned somewhere, but he still knows a lot about Matt. Like the fact that Matt doesn't really need a stick to walk, that Matt's a good fighter, heck, he even knows about Matt's connection to Elektra.

So I think Fisk will find Sweeney while looking for info about Matt. It might help him guess about Matt's other identity, and if Fisk could prove Matt's connection to Elektra (who is a wanted criminal, IIRC), it could help him discredit Matt.

Speaking of Fisk and Roscoe Sweeney, let's talk about Ellison, actually. After the events of The Punisher (2017), Karen's dynamic with Ellison in season 3 of Daredevil (2015) is going to be interesting. For one, they both don’t completely trust each other.

But more importantly, let's remember that Fisk had a mole within the Bulletin before, and he’s going to need someone on the inside again. Ellison is a family man and seems like he could be easily blackmailed, given that he was previously intimidated by Carson Wolf into "changing the narrative" around David's faked "death". If Fisk blackmails Ellison for damning information on Karen Page, I don't want to know what could happen then.

But remember that Ellison is married and has kids. And we've seen "family" get used as leverage by Fisk and his people multiple times. After all, James Wesley got Farnum to attack Karen in her cell by threatening his daughter, and Wesley also met his demise trying to threaten Karen with Matt and Foggy's lives.

But alas, maybe it won't be Ellison, but Jennifer Many (that reporter that interviewed Ward in Iron Fist and seems to be a rival to Karen) who could become Fisk's mole.

If Ellison was a potential candidate for a mole, then why didn’t Fisk use him the first time around?
