I agree, the current doesn't show anything about the trope at all that I can tell, and I had to lean in to see what was happening...still not exactly clear. +1 to pull, regardless of replacement.
I agree. Can't think of what to add, though, since it doesn't seem that easy to illustrate.
Check out my fanfiction! The only thing I can think of is a scene I remember from Green Lantern, when Kyle Rayner was the current GL for a while. In a caption accompanying a particular panel, he's saying that the bullets that he's firing from his ring-construct guns do exactly what he wants them to do, which means that they aren't lethal just because he wants them to be non-lethal.
Absent-minded professor and Neverwinter Nights DMInteresting. Could someone see if they could get a picture of that, if possible?
Otherwise, if we can't think of an image to replace the current one with, I'd support removing the current one.
What the hell am I looking at? Pull, replacement or none.
Image Source. Please update whenever an image is changed.[1]◊?
Becky: Who are you? The Mysterious Stranger: An angel. Huck: What's your name? The Mysterious Stranger: Satan.More clear than the current image, but illustrates the trope just as much. Which is, to say, not very much.
That'd be a good image to put in the image links section of Blade Lock though.
It is a red energy weapon / lightsaber wielded by Darth Vader clashing against (instead of easily cutting through) a regular metal sword wielded by some guy with stubble. It is totally the trope. Kind of a complex idea, though.
v I was trying to avoid relying on any background knowledge in my explanation. Other than, like, "Darth Vader exists".

Becky: Who are you? The Mysterious Stranger: An angel. Huck: What's your name? The Mysterious Stranger: Satan.Perhaps that explanation works, but it's kind of edging upon "relies on a caption or background knowledge to work" territory, so it's kinda iffy for me.
It's rather weak, but probably better than nothing.
Check out my fanfiction!Just thought of this: Drawing on the previous idea of a Laser Blade being unable to cut through a metal object when it's shown it normally does: Why not make a 2-panel image? One panel of the laser blade cutting through a metal object, and another of preferably the same laser blade being unable to cut through an object of a similar-looking metal?
rodney's suggestion is a touch clearer than the current, but will prolly need caption help.
"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard FeynmanThat image brings back great KOTOR memories... Anyway, what about something like "The power of plot can stop even the most powerful Laser Blade"?
I like that caption
I do too, but it's a bit wordy. Maybe "No blade is sharper than the plot."
Check out my fanfiction!
Pothole the word "blade" to Laser Blade?
Becky: Who are you? The Mysterious Stranger: An angel. Huck: What's your name? The Mysterious Stranger: Satan.I like that caption suggestion, and the pothole suggestion as well.
That's what I was thinking.
I'm okay with both the picture and the caption suggestions.
Absent-minded professor and Neverwinter Nights DMThe source is VideoGames.Soul Series (Soul Calibur 4).
Becky: Who are you? The Mysterious Stranger: An angel. Huck: What's your name? The Mysterious Stranger: Satan.May also want to pothole Star Wars somewhere since Darth Vader is literally half the image.

Who was in Soul Caliber IV along with Yoda and The Apprentice
That I was aware of, but good point. And (as I should have done yesterday, wouldn't be the first time I've made such silly mistakes) I checked down the page to see the Soul Calibur example listed on the page is right underneath an example that potholes Star Wars, yeah, I think we're good.
The image currently shown on the trope page just seems to depict a fight scene. Without context, it's unclear exactly what is going on, and even with context, it's hard to gather that it demonstrates the trope at all, especially with the lack of caption. The trope is supposed to be about attacks that swap between lethal and non-lethal depending on the scene. How exactly am I supposed to tell who is getting hit with what in that image? And how am I supposed to tell whatever attack being used in the image is supposed to be any more or less lethal than any other time it may be used?
I have no specific replacement images in mind, but I suppose one that demonstrates the trope would require two scenes: One in which an attack is shown as being lethal, and one in which the same attack is shown as being non-lethal without logical reason.
