Nice, I regularly catch up on this webcomic too!
The art style and subject matter remind me a bit of one of my favorite manga in terms of cutesy-like drawings that don't shy from showing some of the more dark undertones in the world being portrayed.
It's just the second chapter so far (or so I think, someone correct me if I'm wrong) but I'm confident Taylor C's able to build a great universe and story, comparable to some of my other fave webcomics as well.
As for recent chapter discussion, man I really wonder what it was in Kip's past that made him so cynical.

I've been following it since Zachary Morrison linked it from Paranatural. It's good, although I generally prefer to read it in chunks as some parts don't have much happening in them.
"Last time didn't turn out so great" we're about to get some dramatic Kip backstory

This conversation must be awkward for Wallace.
So uh... did anyone else just recently find out as well that Taylor C. and Paranatural's Zack Morrison are dating?
I was introduced to Monsterkind by Zack posting a link on Paranatural essentially saying, "Hey, look at my girlfriend's comic!", so I've known for a bit. :) It does make those early newsposts in Monsterkind about her working up the courage to talk to Zack all that more cute.
Well... That's interesting... which one of them has the incorrect memories? Or is this a matter of selective memory?
Oh cool there's a thread for this, didn't see it before.
I discovered this webcomic a few weeks ago and started reading through it because I really liked the art and the premise was interesting. I've been going very slowly because of school stuff (I'm on comic 74 right now) but I like most of the cast so far (Roy's the one I'm most lukewarm towards but eh I'm still in chapter 1 there's still time for him to grow on me) and what I've seen of the world of the comic.
Reading the files of people you see every day is weird, gives you this inside scoop on who they are and the most frustrating bit is that generally, you can say nothing whatsoever.
And there's a reason they looked so familiar... I'm assuming that the implication is that someone in the government got ahold of Kip's files, and probably used them to ensure they could properly oppress the monsters.
I wanted to ask before I commit; this isn't a queerbaity comic right? Like, there are actual queer male romances. It's not just the author teasing it but with no intention of ever acting on them.
Would really appreciate any input on this.
*shrug* We don't know at this point. The on-screen romance is basically Charlie and Louise, which is ambiguous since Louise is non-binary. We've seen indications that Kip and Wallace have sparks. There's hints of Pascal and Wallace with indications that Pascal has a history with Kip. So far, nothing has really developed from it. I wouldn't even say that they're baiting anyone, merely telling a story.
That's a bit of a bummer, but I'm still enjoying what I'm reading a lot so I'll keep at it. As long as, like, every dude doesn't unilaterally declare straightness I'm sure I won't mind.
Oh my god this comic is so good.
I'm very fond of it too. It does a good job of fixing the ridiculous (Roy and Molly are both pretty silly looking) with the serious (the whole thing where they both think the other one is hallucinating memories... that's a scary thought) with the terrifying (the whole government conspiracy to experiment on the monsters and the way they've been sent to a ghetto).
While I feel like it might be irrelevant in the same way that Entertainment reporting tends to be, the author of this strip is dating the guy who does Paranatural, and I think they both carry the same quirky charm.
So yeah this comic is amazing and adorable and wonderfully queer, but oh my god the pacing is so bad. It's been running for nearly five years and so little has happened. Agh. It's so good that it sucks that this big thing is sticking out.
Otherwise it's a little slice of perfection. I'd honestly be happy if the sinister plot stuff was chucked out the bin for more of Roy being adorable.

Finally caught up with the comic, the slow burn approach worked great for binging but waiting for the story to slowly drip out bit by bit is not going to be fun. Was not expecting the Ben/Wallace romance but it'll be interesting to see where that goes.
Nowhere near getting caught up yet, but the latest strip starts to explain why Roy and Molly have different memories.
And we're back. It looks like we'll be getting more Kip backstory.
I noticed there wasn't a thread for Monsterkind, sooo...here it is! You can read it here. It's about a guy named Wallace who moves into a district populated mostly by monsters. He has to deal with various issues, mostly Fantastic Racism.
