The other 10% is correct. They've made no statement on any release window at all, other than to say they can't specify if it releases at the same time or later on.

More info on Fire Emblem Warriors from Famitsu. Linking to Neo GAF just in case you can't get to Famitsu's site.

Wall Street Journal: Nintendo battles Apple for parts as Switch demand rises.

Nintendo has told suppliers and assemblers it hopes to make nearly 20 million units of the Switch device in the year ending March 2018, people involved in the discussions said. Though the company’s official sales target for the year is 10 million, strong demand suggests it can sell many more—if it can make them.

The problem is an industrywide capacity shortage for components used in smartphones, computer servers and other digital devices. These include the NAND flash-memory chips that store data, liquid-crystal displays and the tiny motors that enable the Switch’s hand-held controllers to imitate the feel of an ice cube shaking in a glass.

“Demand for our NAND flash memory has been overwhelmingly greater than supply, and the situation is likely to stay for the rest of this year,” said a spokeswoman at Toshiba Corp., the troubled industrial giant that is leaning on flash memory to survive. She cited demand from smartphone makers—Apple and Chinese companies are among Toshiba’s customers—and data centers.

People in the industry say the rapid expansion of web-based services for corporations has driven demand for computer servers that use flash memory. Continued demand for Apple’s iPhone 7 and a 10th anniversary model of the iPhone expected later this year are also keeping parts makers at full capacity, helping power Japan’s economy to its longest growth streak since 2006.

Nintendo and Apple representatives declined to comment on supply-chain issues.

Analysts say rivals for the sought-after parts can often offer better terms than Nintendo. Makers of data-center servers tend to use newer and higher-margin components, while smartphone makers issue larger orders than Nintendo.

If Nintendo increased spending significantly to secure more parts, that could risk driving the Switch’s production cost above the $299 retail price. President Tatsumi Kimishima, has said he doesn’t want to sell the Switch at a loss.

Lost Sphear looks like it's going to be a beautiful game in more ways than one.

Oh that would be so nice. The game lends itself to being a Switch game pretty well, and it would give the game a new lease in life. It would also make local multiplayer a lot easier, too.

@tc: The 'artificial scarcity' argument looking pretty shaky. There are reasons why Nintendo would find it hard to meet supply.

Lost Sphear looks... nice? Super generic plot-wise though. What is this, the 10,000th RPG involving the world dissolving because of something with memories? The visuals are stunning and the combat looks neat. The plot might be salvageable if they either have a huge plot twist or they milk the pathos of countless people dying and the world dissolving as much as possible.

[up] It looks generic because Setsuna was generic too and that seems to be how the people at Tokyo RPG Factory operate.

Like Setsuna had a few things going for it but the experience overall was very mediocre and even sloppy towards the end.

I wouldn't expect much from it myself.

Wait, how would a Switch port of Pokken make local multiplayer easier? Wouldn't it be harder without a second screen for player 2?

Odds are everyone will need their own Switch to play it multiplayer, but for tournaments at least it will be a bit easier since setting up a couple of Switches locally will be easier than the crappy and very limited LAN connection on the Wii U version.

The artificial scarcity argument has always been kinda shaky to begin with, being pretty much only based on frustration and the need to blame something. Been like this since amiibo's early stock problems.

And oddly enough, I think the NES Mini also used the kind of memory mentioned in the article. So while Nintendo may not have handled that in the best way, the limited production was justifiable because they needed the memory for more important things.

wild mass guess There's also the possibility that Split Screen during field phase is finally possible with the Switch's more powerful hardware. Duel phase would make the game maximize the screen of the one whose combo initiated duel phase. Ending duel phase would return the game to split screen. wild mass guess

So I finally got the Switch by mail (thanks to Game Stop Order at a hefty price) with 3 games: Zelda, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe and Has Been Heroes. Been playing Mario Kart 8 Deluxe first because I want to have Zelda on the big screen (I don't have access to my HD TV right now), and that I want see the Inkling Girl's banned gesture before updating. I have to say that even though I have seen the Switch in person twice now (even holding it at times), I still find myself baffled at how small it is. This thing is like a 3DS if there was an iPad version (minus the dual screen).

I like how the Switch turned out to be such a success, despite some people saying that the concept of being able to plug basically a beefed up handheld device into the tv right out of the box being "gimmicky". *glances over to StephenVlog*

How is that even "just a gimmick", anyway? It's pretty damn impressive being able to take full modern console games on the go with you without having to buy an extra device, and it works really well

A gimmick doesn't have to be negative, even if everyone means it negatively. The Switch has a gimmick, but it's a good gimmick.

[up]This.

There were some bad motion control games and that made gamers sour on the idea calling it a gimmick, but there were also a lot of good motion control games to even it out. Besides, Analog controls aren't always perfect. In fact, I guarantee there are games out there that use regular controllers that play worse than motion controls.

It's not selling just on the novelty of the gimmick at least.

So, actual third party games? Prey? Injustice 2? Anything?

[up][up] Agreed. The Trilogy versions of 1 and 2 are way better than the Game Cube versions because of the motion controls
