Just once, just once before I die, I would like to see a show where the lady is the lovable slob and the dude is the needless morality pillar with a stick up their butt.
Never trust anyone who uses "degenerate" as an insult.Me too, but that felt like the wrong foot to lead on.
Maybe you'd be less disappointed if you stopped expecting things to be Carmen Sandiego movies.Incredibly wonderful show. It was originally pitched as a film, and it definitely feels like it. Tragic, funny, and horrifying. I went from being terrified for his mental state to amused then back to terrified again during the scene where he's talking to the basketballs, golf balls, footballs, etc.
I believe they tried that with Selfie and look how well that turned out.
Trump delenda estI do really have to wonder though, where are all the dead bodies everywhere? And why does Carol prefer to live in the wilderness rather than take shelter in all the many homes?
The dead bodies might be a bit much for a comedy show, as dark it is. I'm pretending that the virus was actually an alien invasion to make it clearer. As for her location, maybe she's an outdoorsy person. I'm not sure.
I took it that she was living outdoors because she didn't like the thought of stealing or living in other peoples houses.
Batman Ninja more like Batman's Bizarre AdventureIt is two years after the virus. I dunno about the rate of decay but I suppose if it was flesh-eating or something that could be it. But then there's the clothes to deal with...
Maybe you'd be less disappointed if you stopped expecting things to be Carmen Sandiego movies.I'm curious: Did anyone else get the feeling that the male lead couldn't carry the comedy or is that just intentional everyday guy vibe that's going past me? Dunno, the parts where he was talking to himself just felt like he was trying hard to act and not quite pulling it off.
I did like the concept, though it might be hard to keep it going with just two characters to work with. My initial feeling is that adding more people would be a cop out as well. Maybe like an end of season cliffhanger.
Overall enough good ideas that I'll come back for more.
8 x The problem with the dynamic of stuck up man/slob lady is that there's a very entrenched trope for that in Manic Pixie Dream Girl. I know you're not suggesting going for that and that the trope couldn't live with a few more inversions, but that the aforementioned dynamic usually ends up lampooning MPD Gs and not the slob male/straight-laced female shtick.
New one tonight.
So it turns out Phil and Carol aren't the last people on Earth.

You fell victim to one of the classic blunders!Artifact Title from episode 2? That's got to be a record. Unless this ends up being a Y The Last Man kind of series.
But that's a story for another time.I did not see that coming. I can't wait to see what will happen next.
There are a surprising number of people in the world for a show called The Last Man on Earth. We're up to four next episode.
You fell victim to one of the classic blunders! So, once again, we're getting two episodes today.
EDIT: Anyone else kind of confused that all of the survivors are white?

It's US-based, where the majority of us (moreso among adults) are white.
I have a bigger issue, anyway. Watching the first episode, you had a lot of sympathy for Phil. Ever since Melissa showed up, he's just been the asshole of the goddamn universe. I get that it's supposed to be a play on his misfortune at rushing into marriage with Carol under the assumption that they were the last two survivors, but eventually you shrug and get over it.
Although the scene where he attempts to leave Todd to die in the desert had me rolling. You can see his conscience working and how much he hates that he can't go through with it.
Though at least Carol had her moment of Not So Above It All. Now they just need to knock Melissa off of her high horse. (Todd's proven that he is just that nice, it's hard for the audience to resent him).
The thing about Phil is that he spent months pining not just for human contact but for an idealized version of human contact where everyone's on his wavelength. All his imaginary friends just sat around a bar and listened to him vent, or occasionally encouraged him to talk to that store window dummy. He's completely forgotten that you have to put actual effort into living in society and getting along with folks and now that he has to he's frustrated by it.
It's not just that he can't sleep with Melissa. Even when loneliness depressed him, he was still living on his own terms and doing whatever the hell he wanted. He doesn't have that option anymore.
For what it's worth, Ted's actor is Hispanic, though there's definitely an imbalance in representation on this show.
Maybe you'd be less disappointed if you stopped expecting things to be Carmen Sandiego movies.Eh, honestly in a show with four people thus far, I could see accusations of tokenism if they try to throw in minorities.
It's certainly not confusing, especially compared to the blackless NYC in Seinfeld and Friends, and the inexplicably Asian-free future in Firefly.
Christ, I just had a Fridge Horror thought... what if immunity isn't hereditary? None of the characters' families were immune, and we have no idea if the virus is still around... so every baby that Carol has might be doomed to just die as soon as it's born.

Found a Youtube Channel with political stances you want to share? Hop on over to this page and add them.Oh, and my headcanon about the corpse issue is that the virus didn't kill quickly, so they're all at hospitals or in the vicinity of them.
Of course, i was also wondering why they didn't go to a farm and retrieve some animals before this. A dairy cow and chickens wouldn't be too hard to take care of and are easy to feed off of.
The virus pretty explicitly killed most animals. "Meatballs don't exist anymore" made that clear.
... though it's not like Chef Boy-ar-dee cans stopped existing, so it still sounds oddly hyperbolic.
Found a Youtube Channel with political stances you want to share? Hop on over to this page and add them.Knowing how to do it shouldn't be an issue. If I was in such a situation I'd start raiding libraries and bookstores all over the city so I can learn how to do things like that.
@All white cast: I feel like changing any of the current characters to be nonwhite would create some rather racist implications. However if they start introducing people left and right and they're all 30-45 year old white people we'll have issues.
Tokenism, I'd imagine. Not to mention the characters are sort of one-note; making Phil non-white would make people say "why's the black guy a jackass?", making Carol would make them say "why's she such a shrew" and Melissa would make people go "oh, a colored girl is only useful as an object of lust?"
Found a Youtube Channel with political stances you want to share? Hop on over to this page and add them.He said changing any, not any one of the current cast members.
I'd say "well if we have only one character be a POC all their flaws will be taken as flaws of all POC" is a good reason to have multiple POC characters, not to avoid them entirely.

Surprised there isn't a thread for this, considering all the love The Lego Movie gets around here.
Anyone else watch the hour-long premiere? What'd you think? I'm liking it so far.
