I just realized something. In the first episode, it's implied that one of the Triplets called the babysitter posing as Donald, to tell her about their "New Address", which seems to imply that at least one of the triplets can do a reasonable Donald imitation. It probably won't come up in the show, because I'm pretty sure their voice actors can't, but something fun to think about.

@ Big K 1337

He does feel like he could be a Loony Tune character, but is stuck in a Disney setting.

Yeah, the "Scrooge's adventure gets thwarted" gets old pretty soon.

Beaks is not much of a villain for now, and I liked the other villain better. I'm sure they will develop Beaks more, but they are taking their time with this episode.

Also, the B-plot kinda fell flat, it was just Glomgold and Scrooge bickering, which would be funnier if they weren't just sitting around in the lounge.

[up]Well, it does look like we are getting some proper globetrotting adventure next week. Looks like they're going on a treasure hunting expedition Egypt. I like Scrooge's outfit here, gives of a bit of an Indiana Jones vibe or something, which is rather fitting. And why is Scrooge angrily waving Webby's hat?

[up]I hope it will be a straight adventure, and not a bunch of ironic subversions, because I'm honestly getting a little tired of those.

[up]I know that feeling.grin

It's really too bad that Disney XD felt the pressing need to force this show to have a Christmas episode, because we haven't got a proper adventure since the pilot.

Then again, we're also dealing with the people who once asked Frank Angones to have three episodes where the ducklings wear shorts for summer, never mind that they don't wear pants in the first place!

I also love that reviewers are blown away by Glomgold being a fake Scot, when fans already had that figured out. I don't think it holds drama around his South African origin (though that is certainly possible), just a symptom of his obsessive rivalry with Scrooge.

Per Frank Angones, this version of Glomgold is not a fake Scot.

Huh. Interesting. Glomgold still loves flaunting it, though.

Does anyone else sort of disappointed they missed an opportunity to have Huey do Donald's fighting stance during his freak out?

[up]I just think it would have been adorably hilarious to see Huey of all people do his uncle's iconic pose.

This made me laugh, it's a copy of a Script of this episode where Frank made the "C" and the "S" in the Duck Tales logo, into a $ and a ¢.

I was looking forward to how the show would cover a younger billionaire, but I just found Beaks annoying. The Scrooge and Glomgold scenes were great though.

As of right now, Dewey is the only character to appear in every episode.

Just saw the episode, and Mark Beaks did not disappoint. Great episode, and "Falcon Graves" is one of the coolest names I've ever heard.

So, something I've noticed:

  • Dewey and Louie went to Scrooge's office together.
  • Huey and Dewey went to Beaks' office together.

So when do Huey and Louie go to an office together?

I absolutely loved this episode. It was a laugh a minute at least. Nonstop, tight comedy.

And Falcon Graves is such an amazing Straight Man. Just the sheer heights of exasperation were...[lol][lol][lol][lol]

I doubt we'll ever see Falcon Graves again. I'd like to see him again, because he's awesome, but I can't really think of any other situation where his straight-laced mercenary character would work as well.

This episode was... not very good. In all honesty, I'd say it's probably the first episode I just found kind of bad.

I don't like this version of Glomgold. He's basically a one-dimensional joke caricature rather than a character you can actually buy as Scrooge's worthy Arch-Enemy. Not that I mind him having comical qualities but you'd expect Scrooge's Evil Counterpart, a guy who also clawed his way to riches from humble beginnings, to be someone who's similarly "tough" and "sharp", if not quite as much as Scrooge. Instead he just comes off as thoroughly dimwitted and pathetic, a walking heap of self-aware cartoon villain clichés. It's a really unflattering portrayal of the character, and not one I find compelling. Also, Keith Ferguson's voice doesn't fit the character design well IMHO. He sounds way too young.

Mark Beaks isn't much better. There's a real sense of the writers crying Were Still Relevant Dammit with him. I guess that's sort of the point, but still... it just didn't result in a very compelling story scenario here, and I'm puzzled what they're even going to do with the character from here on out. He doesn't strike me as having much potential as a villain.

Also, is Beaks annoying Scrooge and Glomgold one time enough to warrant their team-up to murder him? When I heard of this episode's premise I expected their alliance to be more... you know, motivated. It seems odd for Scrooge to be willing to work with his arch-nemesis to stomp out some guy he met one time and was kind of obnoxious.

[up]I'll agree with you on Glomgold. I mean, it's pretty funny, but it does kinda means the writers will never be able to set him up as a credible threat, which is a real waste.

It kind of makes me wish Disney would produce some one-shot films based on their comics in the vein of the DC Universe Animated Original Movies so there can be an actual good animated version of Glomgold at some point. I find both this interpretation and the 80s one really lacking, albeit for totally different reasons. The 80s version was just bland and forgettable, while this version is a Denser and Wackier extrapolation from the 80s version with even less depth or threat value.
