I can't say I'm eager to see Doofus return, I felt he was pretty much the fifth wheel on the wagon in the OD, and most of the times awkwardly shoehorned in, sometimes replacing HD&L altogether for no reason. I mean, why would Scrooge care to take this non-family member along on not just adventures, but highly personal and secret ones, too? Scrooge doesn't strike me as the kind to do family friends, even in his more toned down incarnations. Nevermind that Doofus is a child.

Optimism is a duty.Y'know, after recently finding out about it, I think it would be interesting if Paperinik someone got a continuity nod in the series.
" I'm the princess! Everyone has to do what I say!"Don Rosa has gone on record saying he didn't hate the old show, he just didn't like it as an adaptation, and he resented the Adaptation Displacement it was subject to.
I'd say you're overstating the extent to which this show takes influence from Rosa, though. There have been a fair few references to Rosa's work, but they're mostly in the form of Mythology Gags. The show's tone and storytelling strikes me as its own thing.
That he dislikes the original Ducktales because it's a poor adaptation is exactly the reason why he won't like this one.

"The difference between reality and fiction is that fiction has to make sense." - Tom Clancy, paraphrasing Mark Twain. On tumbler, there seems to be a growing number of people who are pairing Gladstone and Mark Beaks together. They actually would have a lot of chemistry together, since they seem to have that insufferable trait going for them. On the other hand, I don't think Scrooge would like any of his family dating his competitors. The pairing name is called Glark.
Clearly all those who pair them together are never anywhere in the United States. #leaked
Predictably, Don Rosa doesn't seem to like it that much.

Well that's mature.
Then again, that sounds like a generous reaction after having to deal with corporate adaptations of your own work for 30 years and having fans assume you only work and/or support the wildly different TV shows. In his shoes, I would probably make that same sign. Creator want readers to value and understand their work.

Except he was writing at the exact same time as OG Ducktales, and didn't really influence it, so it's not really an adaptation of his work. I'm pretty sure what he cares about is being as close as possible to Barks works.
I get having the sign so he doesn't get a bunch of people thinking it's something else running up to him, but I think he also may be pushing away potential new fans, who became interested in reading the comics through the show (like me). I'm sure he's a perfectly nice guy, but I think that could have been handled better.

I guess if you got asked about a cartoon based on your work constantly instead of what you actually worked on you'd get pretty agitated about that. I could see him refusing to check out the new show at all, and just having the sign made preventatively.

Do you guys think that DT 2017 would've been better as a straight 1 to 1 adaptation of Barks/Rosa's stories, instead of it being just inspired by it and them doing their own thing?

I can get that, but it's rather sad since the writers seemed to respect his work quite a bit.
It's kinda like being rejected by your idol in a sense.
One Strip! One Strip!Just realized he also might be partially talking about the changes to HD&L for the part of the sign that reads the show has "virtually no similarities whatsoever".

I spent this past weekend at my parents' house and I found my father's Uncle Scrooge Comics book. I only read a couple, but one of them (I think it was So Far No Safari) starts with Scrooge showing off what a skinflint he was. Some gophers got into the Money Bin and he was afraid they'd mistake the greenbacks for lettuce and eat his fortune, but when his assistant suggests they pipe gas into the Bin at a cost of "just a couple dollars for the gas", Scrooge moans and asks if there's any cheaper option.
Fresh-eyed movie blogx4 We have come a long way in what can be done in an animated Television show, and I think a straight adaptation would be a step backwards in terms of storytelling. the types stories of in the comics were mostly pretty similar to OG Ducktales, mostly stand alone adventure type stories with the occasional multi-parter, with little attention to character development or extensive continuity. (With a few obvious exceptions of course)
Although as we've said, there are a lot of differences here, and some people may not like them, the way it's phrased here sort of gives the impression this is more a case of They Changed It, So It Sucks.

RE: Don Rosa evidently not liking DT2017:
Okay, nobody show that tweet to the crew of DuckTales (2017).
I'd hate to think of how heartbroken those guys could get...
Doubt they'd care, Rosa's kind of an ass about how Ducktales isn't exactly like the comics.
Have you any dreams you'd like to sell?If the show were just like the comic, people would complain about it not being different enough.
This song needs more love.I'm pretty sure he takes Carl Barks more seriously than Carl Barks ever did.
He does. Barks was never remotely as obsessed with continuity or consistency in his own work as Rosa is.
Eh, dude is pretty old so I think he has right to be grumpy about some things
@megaeliz
"One of the things that stood out to me, was the fact that he was going to The Temple of the Golden Cricket to "find out the secrets of the Universe", and spent the whole episode frustrated because everything is conspiring to keep him away from his adventure."
A low key 'earthly distractions keep us away from spiritual enlightenment' message for sure.
Also subverted when the cricket isn't all it's cracked up to be.
On Rosa disliking Duck Tales apparently in all forms: he is not only pretty purist of a fan when it comes to Barks, but he is also rather disillusioned by Disney after his arduous experiences on the less-than-stellar career path that is being maker of Disney comics.

Regardless of what Dona Rosa thinks, I still believe the series is more Truer to the Text than the previous series.
Well, at least at the Casino, Scrooge had a life threatening adventure.

Same here I suspect that Doofus will have similar role for the ducklings as the vultures have for Scrooge. An episode antagonist but not the real villain like the Beagle boys.
