... Why the f*** would you hire a known Islamophobe for this kind of job (unless you, the hirer, are an Islamophobe yourself)?!

Think you answered your own question. Then there's the possibility that some find islamophobia to be a useful tool, innocent victims being an acceptable loss. No negotiation, no quarter.

"The conference, which is sponsored by the defense contractor Northrop Grumman, the maker of stun guns Taser International, and the teargas manufacturer Combine Systems, among others, is not open to the press or the public. But the event is drawing sharp criticism both for its promotion of military-style police training and equipment, and for the role given to Mauro and the Clarion Project."

That's pretty much all you need to know about that conference.

Fortunately, the FBI, while not exactly a bunch of angels themselves in this regard, at least appear to have a more sophisticated approach to countering radical Islamic terrorism.

So recently the British Met got in a bit of PR trouble because they ran a terrorist situation training exercise (it may have been a suicide bomber specific one) and had the 'terrorist' shout "Allahu Akbar" for some reason, they've admitted that it served no practical purpose but that's it so far.

Obviously a fair number of folks are pissed about this, and thus pepole are also pissed about folks being pissed and have gone "Well what else would he say?"

To which I just though "One Ireland!", "Stop the Muslim menace!", "Destroy the Bourgeoise", "Down with the crown!"?

OK, I think that's enough potshots at Facebook meme page readers for one post, although I do think some are dumb/crazy enough to actually try starting shit offline.

@ Silasw: Are you sure it was Met because if I remember correctly, that exercise was in the Trafford Centre, in Manchester — surely Greater Manchester Police were leading that?

Dammit you're right, it was Greater Manchester Police, my mistake. I think I screwed it up because I saw it in the Metro on the tube and figured that it was a London based story. That or the Metro misreported it slightly, which wouldn't be that unlike them. tongue

Not even Mateen's father, Seddique Mateen, is so forgiving.

"If he hadn't done this horrible act probably I would, but right now I don't forgive him," Mateen, dressed in a coat and tie, told reporters.

"I don't know what, why he did it, but it's unforgiven to hurt their own family, we live in the United States as a family," he said.

Mateen said his thoughts are with the victims, and also with his three-year-old grandson.

"He destroyed almost the whole family," he said.

What a dick!

Why? Seems like a fairly normal reaction (the other one being some form of self-delusion and denial). Kid murdered 50 people, why should he be forgiven so quickly, if at all? Wasn't really Islamophobic either.

Plus his act put lots of muslims at risk. Quite frankly, if a son of mine did a mass murder like that, I wouldn't even acknowledge him as my son.

[up] What would the dad be forgiving if the guy hadn't done the horrible acts? That seem unclear to me.

Oh and a point of clarity, the killer murdered 49 people, the 50 dead total includes the shooter.

[up][up]I understood "If he had not done this horrible act probably I would [have done it]", not "If he had not done this horrible act probably I would [have forgiven him]". But it's hard to reliably interpret Ambiguous Syntax when the speaker sucks at English as much as this piece of shit does.

I don't know if this fits here or the Southeast Asia thread, but I have saw a lot of articles in my local Chinese newspapers decrying the concept of Halal as the main, if not sole reason Rayani Air had the operating license revoked due to operation failures, instead of you know, actual management incompetence.

The problem with this is that they conveniently forget that the concept of halal has existed for decades (and our halal certification is recognized worldwide at that) and all Malaysians, Muslims and non-Muslims alike, have to consume halal food. Islamic banking also existed in Malaysia for a long time and have showed no signs of disappearing as well. I also heard from a banking executive that non-Muslims have more accounts in Islamic banks than Muslims.

Aside from that, using halal as marketing tactic isn't new. Of particular note is Claytan clay made tableware, which used this trick (albeit after their business have stabilized) yet still operates well.

Horrible news.

As the police stood by and watched, a 27-year-old Muslim woman was brutally murdered by a mob in Kabul, Afghanistan after she was falsely accused of burning a Quran by an Islamic cleric.

The young Muslim woman, Farkhunda Malikzada, was viciously beaten, stoned, deliberately run over by a car, thrown into a dry river bed, crushed with larger stones, and then set on fire.

It was later determined by the Afghanistan Ministry of Hajj and Religious Affairs that Farkhunda Malikzada had not burned a Quran.

It's a horrible video, which I refuse to open.

Way to go, Afghanis. Giving Muslims a good name worldwide. Fuckwits.
