I guess "Sandstorm" is one of those trance tracks you hear a lot on the radio but don't know the titles of because they don't have any lyrics. Aside from "DUN-DUN DUN-DUN DUN!" anyway.
It's the same for me with Alice Deejay's "Better Off Alone." You know, the one that goes, "dun dun-dun da dun dun da DUN-DUN-DUN dun." I've heard it dozens of times in my life but only discovered its title on the Internet about five years ago. I also didn't know that song actually had lyrics.

Call me Willy Whistle 'cause I can't speak, baby. Something in TV Tropes really drove me crazy.I guess because people always used to used it in Youtube Poops and parody videos a long time ago and people kept asking what the song was.
Also because youtube commenters are often obnoxious.

To be honest, I can never remember hearing that song on the radio. I do remember hearing it at parties a lot as a kid, though. As well as the Cha-Cha Slide.
Insert witty 'n clever quip here.Yeah, I think "Sandstorm" stands out a lot among other party staples, such as the "Cha-Cha Slide," the "Electric Slide," the "Cupid Shuffle," and "Get Low" by Lil Jon & The East Side Boyz, simply for having no lyrics whatsoever.
Call me Willy Whistle 'cause I can't speak, baby. Something in TV Tropes really drove me crazy.I've never heard Sandstorm at parties.
"Sandstorm" is usually heard at large get-togethers like high school proms. From what I've seen, D Js would hand out glowsticks to the people on the dance floor to wave around and jump to the chorus with.
Call me Willy Whistle 'cause I can't speak, baby. Something in TV Tropes really drove me crazy. My school would always just stick to pop music... and "Play That Funky Music" with the words "white boy" edited out.
Kennedy Krieger High School: the most conservative high school in the state of Maryland.
Darude - Sandstorm became this meme thing because apparently it got popular among the League community because some big League streamer guy listened to it all the time, and the League fandumb being the way it is spread that shit like the black plague.
Now it's not even a League thing and just a joke reply to whenever anyone asks "whats the name of that song?"
It's a shame, too, because I actually quite like "Sandstorm"; I used to hear it on the radio all the time when I was growing up. :/
simple asWhen I say parties, I mean like big get togethers for special events (like a Communion or Sweet 16 or something).
Insert witty 'n clever quip here. Are EDM radio stations dead? The closest thing I have to an EDM station in my area is just the pop station.
Please help out our The History Of Video Games page.EDM radio stations ever existed?
I mean, probably if you look on satellite radio.
Insert witty 'n clever quip here.Must be a UK/Europe thing.
From what I've seen, "serious" EDM is a lot more popular in Europe than it is here in America, so it makes sense.
Please help out our The History Of Video Games page.I think the meme originated on Twitch.tv, though I'm not entirely sure.
Darude is a Finnish trance DJ, so it makes sense that Europe listened to it first (and was a nÂș 1 hit in Norway).
It's Trance, and it was made before the term EDM was coined. (I have my reasons to dislike the term EDM) - in 1999, to be more precise.
It picked up in the US, but only 10 years later (which is another proof that the US takes a mighty long time to embrace European stuff, especially since the 90's).
I could've sworn I heard "Sandstorm" when I was little, sometime in the early 2000s. I'd certainly heard of it long before it even was considered a meme.
Call me Willy Whistle 'cause I can't speak, baby. Something in TV Tropes really drove me crazy. It was released in 1999, so, yeah.
Yeah, I know I heard "Sandstorm" at some parties in the early to mid-00s. I just didn't know its name back then.
The first time I've ever heard it IRL was at a college basketball game I went to recently.
I first heard it a few times at a few high school dances.
I finally found out the title during Scholastic Bowl practice (where it's at least quiet enough to ask and people will hear you).
Please help out our The History Of Video Games page.Ah. those were the days when you weren't considered an obnoxious idiot for saying "Darude — Sandstorm."
Call me Willy Whistle 'cause I can't speak, baby. Something in TV Tropes really drove me crazy. But is it as bad as "Arrow to the Knee"note ? That was in even the most irrelevant videos.
Please help out our The History Of Video Games page.I'd say they're on equal footing now.
How did that become "every song that no one knows the title to but has heard"?
