Fixed the thread title.
Which page do you mean? High Octane Nightmare Fuel? That is a redirect.
"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard FeynmanI'v been wondering the same thing.
History time!
Originally, HONF was a separate item from vanilla Nightmare Fuel, and it was basically "Nightmare Fuel Up To Eleven". It even had its own namespace with subpages. Since it was eventually decided that The Same But More was not really appreciated in any aspect on the site (be it tropes, YMMV items, or otherwise), the two were merged, hence the redirect.
When the new code was put into play into January, it automatically created little tabs for every subpage that not only currently existed, but had existed in the past. So we saw a bunch of HONF tabs go up. And Now You Know.

Expergiscēre cras, medior quam hodie. (Awaken tomorrow, better than today.)It was more like High Octane was for things that were intended to be scary by the makers of a work, whereas vanilla NF was more for unintentional things (like its trope namer). At least I'm pretty sure that's what it was, and then people just took the names at face value, leading to one becoming obselete.
Insert witty 'n clever quip here. The reason HONF came about was that people were using Nightmare Fuel for stuff that was scary maybe for oversensitive preschoolers. Thus, there was a desire to separate "really no shit" scary things from "baby stuff". That this made a mess of things should go without saying.
"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!""Were"? I'm pretty sure that's still the case today.
There's been times that I've seriously considered proposing to re-purpose NF into an in-universe trope, where someone intentionally says that something or someone is the stuff of nightmares or gave them nightmares, and create a Scary Moments section to go along with Funny, Awesome, and Heartwarming, where the normal things that people list as NF would be relegated to.

I feel like that'd be for the best at this point—I don't think it's possible to salvage those pages.
Insert witty 'n clever quip here. The problem with a major redefinition would be inbounds. Otherwise, though, I would support such a move.
"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"The other problems being that "character is scared" may or may not be a trope depending upon context (and honestly, Nightmare Fuel is not a good name for it), and that redefining a trope with 10000+ wicks is a daunting task.
"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard FeynmanThis TRS thread from 2012-2014 has details on the Nightmare Fuel cleanup. It looks like 69 HONF pages remain in redirect form. Any reason not to start adding them to the cut list?
If they are inboundless or inbound-poor, they can go, I think.
"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard FeynmanGot half-way through when the cut list cleared and some were declined, not sure where the line is being drawn and haven't gotten a PM. I'll stop adding them until I find out the reason.
Also; I want to say to you guys who worked on the Nightmare Fuel cleanup TRS should get some sort of award, like free therapy for life, because just a few minutes of glancing through a fraction of that amount of NF pages has me nauseous and that's never happened to me before.
Yeah, as I said "inboundless or inboundpoor". I've accepted the cut requests for pages with less than 20 inbounds.
"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard Feynman20 then, didn't see the pattern. That should be the last of them under 20.
If you want to see the related pages without nausea, you might want to try going here. Or if you really need to actually see the page, turn images off if your browser gives the option.
Aww, thanks for the suggestion. My friends often accuse me of being a Nightmare Fuel Station Attendant, so it's interesting to find a limit to that.
No offense or anything, but a lot of examples I tend to find on Nightmare Fuel aren't really all that scary at all, at least to me. I always feel like there should be separate pages for what is "regular" scary and "haunts your dreams" level scary.
The ink flows into a dark puddle, just move your hand- write the way into his heartWell, it's categorized as a subjective trope, too. Scariness is subjective.
"Jack, you have debauched my sloth."True, but I have the same feeling about overuse of Nightmare Fuel as I do Awesome Moments or the like... if people are going to list damn near everything on these pages, it dilutes the meaning to the point of meaninglessness.
Seriously, the Game Of Thrones Awesome pages are basically freaking recaps of the episode.
Found a Youtube Channel with political stances you want to share? Hop on over to this page and add them.
From what I've seen before, all it does is redirect you to regular Nightmare Fuel. So what's the point of it? Does ANYTHING on TV Tropes actually make use of High Octane Nightmare Fuel?
