Thunderbirds reboot in 2015

So this is a thing.

• Mix of CGI (characters) and models (vehicles, etc)
• Rosamund Pike as Lady Penelope
• David Graham (the original Dalek voice) as Parker
• Tin-Tin is gone (copyright?), replaced by \'Kayo\'

This looks like it could be pretty good. It\'s coming this Spring on CITV in the UK, with no firm date announced IIRC.

Can\'t be much worse than a Spy Kids ripoff.

Thunderbirds are go!

Just saw the 'Introducing the World' trailer. That is... quite promising, at least in terms of background design. I'm not sure how well CGI over model scenery will work, but gotta admit, Tracey Island looks pretty cool.

I keep getting Thunderbirds confused with Thundercats.

I really wanted puppets to kick ass again.

They've got no strings to hold them down

Who knows? Maybe the CG will be as expressive as the puppets.

Or use the tech used in The Lego Movie.

...Something I only just realised, but it looks kinda like they've reversed the layout of the Thunderbird 1 launch bay. The pool is implied to be opening above the top room, rather than the bottom as before.

Still, the redesigned launch bay looks sweet. I'm a sucker for alarm lights in high tech headquarters.

There's also trailers on Youtube showing Thunderbird 5 and Thunderbird 4. Also, The Hood. He seems less overtly Asian in this version, though that may just be the voice.

Also confirms that yeah, Kayo is basically just Tin-Tin - her last name is Kyrano and everything.

Fuck 'em. They put it in Youtube, it should be internationally visible.

The trailer filled with nothing but models looks very promising. Thunderbirds was always about the models and this new series looks to continue with that. I do like that the Tracey siblings actually look different from one another, because when I watched the old show I could not tell them apart. I don't know if it's been mentioned but the model guys are the same people who did all the models for the Lord of the Rings trilogy.

They are selling tickets to a premiere of the first episode. The date given is March 31, and it confirms that its an hour long episode.

I want this to be successful and based on what I've seen I think they have a shot. If we're lucky it will be so well-liked that they'll consider doing a new Captain Scarlet in the same style. I'd love to have a pair of sister shows on air at the same time with the same continuity. Like a Tracey cameoing in Scarlett, or saying that the angel interceptor◊ was built by Tracey's company. And if we're really REALLY lucky, maybe they'll reboot Singray too. I know this is a pipe dream, but a guy can dream can't he?

And I may just be not seeing things clearly but those models look CGI to me, despite the fact that earlier they said all the models would be physical. Am I wrong? Also, if you pause it at 37 seconds you can see the FAB 1 flying. I don't know if that's cool or stupid.

Has anyone else noticed that with all the production material and photos and trailers that we haven't heard or seen anything regarding Jeff Tracy, the dad?

Actually, I think FAB 1 flying might be a reference to Supercar, the first Supermarionation series. I'm pretty sure that they said that the sets would be live action but the vehicles would be CGI from the start.

I actually think that the trailer looks alright. Good, but not great. A lot of the trailer was edited too quickly for my liking, and the Inception noise was stupid, but otherwise, the show looks OK. I guess I'll be watching it.

From the website: "Jeff Tracy will not be appearing in the first season of the series, because he has gone missing during a rescue mission. The boys are being brought up by their grandmother Grandma Tracy."

I knew it was conspicuous that Jeff was missing from all the promotional material. Now we know why. This sounds like it'll be part of a story arc. The Hood will probably be a part of his own story arc, and will most likely be revealed to be related to Kayo, who herself seems to be a composite character of Tin-tin and Kayrano (who I don't think ever did anything other than be on the receiving end of the Hood's voodoo.)

I'm looking forward to it. It would be a lot better than that 2004 film..

Well...we have a small preview of the revamped theme song. And, to me at least, it sounds like Hans Zimmer at his most bombastic.

And it's been confirmed that Jeff Tracy won't be in the next season either. Bummer.

Episode goes out in the UK at 5pm tomorrow on ITV 1.

Can anyone point out a decent stream when the episode airs? I'm kind of having a hard time finding a stable ITV stream.

OK, so the Stingray clip was a nice touch.

Also, apparently Brains has a Tachikoma now.
