From the Private Journal of Reginald P. Chaste, 1890

There isn't a man in the world who has yet to hear the name Yggdrasil. The once grand city, hailed as the heart and soul of the world's growing power. It was a decadent, beautiful place. It was said to be the birth of the new Electrical Revolution. But now, it has birthed nothing but death and disease. That once proud city has become a forbidden graveyard, where man's worst nightmares congregate and the Devil's friends dine for free. There is nothing worthwhile to be found there. Not a gold piece worth collecting, or a coil or gear to At least, that's what I always believed.

I was never an unfortunate man. I grew up going to the most prestigious schools my country had to offer. I swam in the finest pools, and talked to the prettiest girls. I matured, enlisted, met the love of my life, got married, and experienced all live had to offer. I was knighted for my service, and my life became an easy stream of regular quests and adventures for my government. I was happy, and content. But, as anyone reading this will surely know, that contentment did not last. The world had been struck by a terrible disease. Many of the more overzealous of us preferred to call it a curse. A terrible curse that turned men, women and children into monsters. Demons straight from the depths of Hell. It was known that Yggdrasil was where the disease first coalesced. Perhaps it was God punished us for the careless and constant use of magic by those smart enough to wield it, but not smart enough to do so responsibly. I was specifically chosen to lead a small charge of men into the city, in hopes of discovered the source of the disease, and hopefully a cure.

It has been four long months. 125 dreadful days since I first arrived in this Lost City. I know this because every time I see the sun set and the moon rise, I beg for the sun to greet me once more. The days may be horrible. But the nights are unbearable. I believe I may not have to worry about either for much longer. My entire squad of 7 men is now dead. I am the last one. I have taken shelter in a small bakery in the Classical District. I believe the time to be Twenty-One Hundred hours. The growling outside is growing louder, angrier. The beasts' smell has always been much stronger than a humans. I have no weapons. I've lost an arm and an eye in these months. The world has lost so much more.

To anyone who finds these pages, run. Do not stay. Run far away. There is no hope for the world any longer. This I am sure of.

Hello everyone to the launch of a new RP of mine. It is based on the upcoming video game Bloodborne, with a Fantasy Horror genre in a Victorian Era setting.

This will be a guided survival and adventure RP, set in the Lost City of Yggdrassil. It is a very large grand city, similar in size to New York City, with many buroughs and districts. Some of these districts include the Classical District with its churches and pockets of old-style community, and the Entertainment District which was one of the first large scale grids of electricity in the world. It was a central hub of business, education, and tourism in the world, as well as having the first and largest magical college.

The city was the first to be hit by a terrible magical disease that turns humans and animals into horrible monsters. Different types of monsters mutated in many different and unique horrible ways, often biological. Players are encouraged to pitch monster ideas of their own, as well as develop the group dynamics. The safety of the team is just as important as the safety of the individual.

The players will be people specifically chosen by the government to form this team and go into the city, and record the spread of the disease, find any survivors or valuables, etc. The RP will be exploration-based, with an emphasis on character interaction and facing terrifying monsters. Player and party choices will have consequences. Technology is in the late 19th century, but slightly steampunk. Guns behave mostly like they did in this time period. Magic is well-known to be used by those intellectual, spiritual and dedicated enough to learn the arcane arts.

Characters will typically be human, but if you have a curse yourself, such as becoming a werewolf, don't expect the rest of the party to trust you so easily.

Here, have a character sheet:

  • Name: What are you called or known as?
  • Age: How old are you?
  • Sex: Male, female, etc?
  • Religion: Do you have one? None? Whatever it is or may not be, share it here.
  • Job/Expertise: What skill do you possess that lead to the government choosing you to join the team? Are you a doctor or a soldier? An inventor or alchemist? Perhaps a photographer, cook, or musician? Try not to pick the same thing as someone else.
  • Appearance: It's important to remember, to make sure you haven't turned.
  • Personality: So long as your wits are still about you, what do you act like?
  • Fears: What are the main phobias and fears that cause you to suffer? Everyone has at least one.
  • Skills and Abilities: What can you do? What are your special skills, both mundane and beneficial to your allies?
  • Equipment: What things do you bring with you on this journey? Include personal weapons.
  • Backstory: What was your life like up to being chosen for this mission?

Colour me interested! I'll get to work on a sheet promptly...

I can only wonder as to how cooking expertise would be considered vital for this type of mission, though I'm almost tempted to try for the challenge of it.

  • Name: Lady Adelaide 'Goldie' Bramstock
  • Age: 26
  • Sex: Female
  • Religion: Pagan Worship of Old Gods
  • Job/Expertise: Arcane Archer - Magic Consultant - Variable Range Archer
  • Appearance: Adelaide's most striking physical features are those which earn her the nickname of goldie... namely, her long, bright blond hair and striking amber colored eyes. She's in general a striking woman, standing at 1,65 meters tall, with a strong physique in a slender though muscled build. She tends to dress in earthen tones with some detail in yellow or gold and favors this metal for her jewelry.
  • Personality: Adelaide is fiercely independent, not exactly what one would expect of the remains of aristocracy. She has quite a temper that allows her to stand up for herself and not be afraid of picking a fight when she feels she's in the right. However, despite the intensity of her anger she rarely bears a grudge and by the time she calms down she probably has forgotten about the whole affair if it's something light. Though in the face of a graver offence and something that truly goes against her beliefs her outburst of rage burns all the fiercer and only cools down into a cold hostility. Just like her anger her other emotions are equally as bright... her laugher is loud and unrestrained, her love is bright and intense and her passions are pursued with incredible energy and tenacity. She's a woman of action, not contemplation. And what may be seen as patience can only be attained by constantly concentrating on a task... on doing more than waiting. However, if you keep on her good side she's bright and friendly, ever eager to tease, converse and joke around.
  • Fears: Adelaide has two. Swarms of Insects and Restraints. In her youth she once fell by accident into a pit full of some sort of swarm of insects... had them crawl all over her and sting her full of poison which left her bedridden for weeks. And Restraints... she hates the feeling of being unable to move, of things weighting her down, stuffing her until she can't move.
  • Skills and Abilities: Lady Adelaide combines both physical prowess and magical might into one dangerous package. She joined the army and since then has kept herself in peak physical condition, avoiding bulk and weight for agility. What she is most known for though is her remarkable skill with the bow. An outdated weapon in the face of the development of firearms, she nevertheless developed her skill with them into a style combining old school lore with her own ingenuity and adaptability. She's equally capable of steady aim for one precise long range shot as she is of shooting on the run, leap and fire three arrows in mid-flight to then pull on an arrow from the eye of a dead foe to shoot another one. While this is formidable on its own, Lady Adelaide prides herself in being an Arcane Archer... she has studied and become capable of wielding the magics of old. While probably considered weak and inexpert by dedicated spellcasters and scholars, she has put a lot of her time into learning the arts and integrating them into her fighting style. She's capable of creating a spiritual string to use for her bow, allowing her to increase the tension and draw of the string at will. She can also create similar spiritual arrows to shoot with her bow, however these expend her valuable magical energy so it's more practical to use physical arrows which are easier to enchant. Her fired arrows are also enchanted with magical energy for increased effect at little cost to Adelaide. Additionally, she can by expending magic energy cause her arrows to be flaming, shocking or freezing. By expending more energy or preparing them beforehand, she can create arrows which explode with the corresponding element on impact. As a mage, she's capable of some minor cantrips of magic at will, such as summoning a light, telekinesis for small objects, small candle sized flames and some magic to reinforce her body or slow somewhat her falls, though for more complex spells she requires to consult her spellbook and cast a ritual. With enough preparation and her book in hand, she can prepare an explosion of magic to blow up a wall required that she is able to draw the necessary invocations upon it. Additionally, with some preparation she can imbue other effects as needed on her arrows by casting an appropiate spell onto them. Finally, her eyesight is nearly supernatural, allowing her to see with great degree of clarity far away things and adjust well to the dark.
  • Equipment: Adelaide's bow is her most precious possession. A custom made model made by a friendly alchemist it's both light and highly resistant due to enchantments cast upon it. A recurve bow with the peculiarity of a pair of arms on it which can be extended or retracted to transform the bow from a shortbow to a longbow with a small adjustment. Though Adelaide carries a spare string in case of emergency, she usually summons a spiritual string to use with her bow, which with some effort she can make a physical and permanent thing. She carries a pair of special quivers holding a hundred arrows in total. For a sidearm she carries a sharp, short blade, curved and the length of a human forearm and hand. She keeps with herself a small handbook for her magical teachings, written in very small letters with terrible care, this small book contains more information than one would primarily expect... each page crammed to the brim with the diminituve writing which Adelaide's keen eyes can easily make out. Upon it, there are the magical theory necessary to understand general phenomena as well as the formulas and rituals for a small arsenal of specific spells. Aside from this, Adelaide carries in pouches and a light backpack trail rations, water, a long length of rope, a small knife, writing implements and a small journal, chalk, charcoal, some medicinal mixtures, needle and thread as well as some spell components.
  • Backstory: Lady Adelaide Bramstock was born the second daughter of the declining aristocracy, the Bramstock family who trace their ancestry back hundreds of years now in the shifting times holding only a bit of their fortune and little of their past relevance and power. Born into a family with three sisters and two brothers, Adelaide always stood out by her sheer fierceness and even as a young untrained child, even her older brother knew not to mess with her too much. The Bramstock were nobility in both action and title... and both elegance and patience were encouraged in the children, which Adelaide could barely provide. Furthermore, Adelaide's mother, Cathrine was a neat freak of the highest order, a pecular trait that grew into phobia as news of the plagues started to spread. All of them were made to wear sheer white clothes, to bathe nearly four times a day with strong soaps and disinfectants applied to kill bacteria. Since young, with the repressive practices of her mother and the hopes of moulding her into a proper, quiet and obedient lady Adelaide was subjected to a lot of stress, as she was constantly scolded for her attitude and made to usually wear many layers, repressive dresses and corsets, makeup and styled hair. Adelaide rebelled and hard when she struck puberty... her childhood had seen its share of fights, but as a young child she had endured and obeyed for the most part. Her parents hoped she would eventually outgrow this phase... but they were more than surprised when at age 16 she escaped home and managed to make her way a few cities away to join up with the army by the time they found out her plans. By the time Lord Bramstock tried to bring her home, it was too late... in this city, age of enlistment was 16 years and she had signed herself to be a weapon of the State. Try as he might, she fought off all attempts to bring her back home. Eventually the Lord simply gave up and named her the least of his heirs. Adelaide relished the change and despite the hardships of training for the army, she enjoyed it... the harsh but open world spreading before her after so much time stuck behind walls, scrubbed clean until her body itched from the disinfectant, made to be little more than a well dressed doll. She embraced the nickname of Goldie, the grime and dirt, the athletic requirements. She got beat up and every day her tender, lady body was pushed to the point of breaking... but she just laughted it all away, feeling truly alive for the first time in her life. Adelaide, wishing to distance herself as much as possible from the hated memory of her mother, the neat freak Pious woman, decided to hang out with the Pagans in the army camp... a division of magic users. She grew curious with their practices and after some proving of her aptitude, she actually dove into the realm of magic for what had begun as just a way to spite the memory of her family. She surprised herself enjoying it all... diving into its study as she could never enjoy history, manners, politics and the gossip that was drilled into her. As for her skill with the bow... surprisingly this was the only thing she learned well at home. The Bramstock family rose centuries ago by archery... its founding member a longbowman who attained knightly status and a title after his service for the King. Thus, his descendants all learned how to use the bow... the sole thing Adelaide enjoyed growing up. Bringing her bow to the army camps, she was teased about the weapon. Wishing to shut down those insulting her bow, her sole partner while enduring life at her home she trained hard with it until her skill with it became something to be spoken off at the camps. Thus lived Goldie, once Lady Adelaide... moving with the army, training her body and mind like never before... facing danger and shaping herself to be one of the shining stars of her generation. Her time of service was up after 8 years and she didn't renew it... because, quite ironically, once the great plague came, Goldie was the last Bramstock left alive. The only one to not grow ill and die by the plague as it swept through the land. Her family's land was on the outskirts of territory dominated by the monsters... but Adelaide, with the help of some friends and her bow went back to the family mansion... and by might of arrow and magic recovered her land, claiming the title of Lady Adelaide and last Heir of the Bramstock titles and fortune. She settled back on the mansion and in the two years since she has kept her home safe from monsters and performs hunts to try and keep at bay the horrors of the plague away, all while honing her abilities and keeping up with her magical studies.

Just putting what I've done here by way of reservation, it will be finished shortly with a bit of luck.

  • Name: Yon (Real/Given name Anna Buckland)

  • Age: 30 (Looks at least 10 years younger)

  • Sex: Female

  • Religion: Buddhism.

  • Job/Expertise: Expert martial artist, particularly in unarmed combat and with the Bo or Kun. Meditation based spiritual magic used to bolster her combat, already impressive physical abilities and gain greater insight into her surroundings.

  • Appearance: Yon, as she is called, is nearly 1.8 metres tall with a lithe frame wrapped in wiry muscle. Her skin is pale but toughened from years of bone breaking training, thick calluses covering her hands and feet as well as old scars. Upon close examination of her features they appear to be rather common for a native of Yggdrassil, perhaps somewhat pretty however how she carries herself gives an exotic impression. Yon keeps her head shaven clean with light, reddish eyebrows sitting serenely above striking black eyes.

While at her 'home' she tends to wear traditional, loose robes however whilst performing this latest mission Yon wears clothes typical of a male gentile - dark brown, pin-striped dress pants and matching vest over a light white shirt, sleeves rolled to her elbows. Her shoes are light leather though old and well scuffed from vigorous use.

  • Personality: Outwardly Yon most always appears calm, serene and in detached contemplation however this is far from the truth - internally her mind is awash with emotion, oftentimes violent or worrisome. In her early life her concentration had been consumed with blaming her feelings upon the world around her and then casting this spite inwards. However after many years of meditation and patient guidance from the monks Yon simply accepts troubles without emotional involvement - as a result she has become quite the problem solver, logical and resolute in the face of danger.

Contrary to what some would think she is rather fond of a diverse assortment of humor though typically only making the occasional wry quip. Yon strives to maintains humility but is not always humble and, albeit friendly to strangers, not always polite - merely direct and honest. She hides nothing expect, perhaps, her deep fear [I apologize for the pun] of water.

  • Fears: Water, particularly deep or fast moving bodies of it. She knows how to swim, albeit not with great skill, however it is a Sharma she has found most difficult to look past.

  • Skills and Abilities: Yon has incredible technical mastery of unarmed combat techniques and with the Bo, this combined with an adaptive style makes her a worthy opponent for any creature. While she is untrained in ranged arts she is fast, highly mobile and hence closes any gap with ease. Moreover she has conditioned her body to perform acts of incredible strength, endurance and agility even without magical assistance, her tolerance of pain/damage and acrobatics in particular seem near the edge of human ability.

Through meditation and focus Yon may use her spirit to boost the effectiveness of attacks or defense for a time, or to sharpen her senses. By applying great effort, and more time for meditation, more powerful abilities can be used for a few brief periods in a day - paralyzing strikes, vital weak points in enemies, etc.

  • Equipment:

    • Yon's Bo: a simple but powerful weapon in her hands - 1.8m long and roughly 3 cm thick, solid wood with metal tips.

    • leather water flask

    • Small pouch of dried berries

    • Bandages

    • Medicinal herbs: application to wounds relieves pain and assists healing, to an extent.

  • Backstory: Ironically, Yon was born in Yggdrassil as one Anna Buckland. Her parents were, to be kind, low-lives by all current and civilized standards but more particularly her father. He refused to marry Anna's mother but would not let her leave him, often violently possessive of her. He was furious to find her pregnant but stayed until the child was born, killing the mother and leaving him to care for the young girl. He tried for some days to care for her but could not handle the screaming baby's are prone to and, in a drunken rage took her to a canal.

He dropped her into the dark waters, though by chance the impact itself did not drown her. A traveling monk, on his way out of the city, passed the brute as he fled and spotted the tiny thrashing thing in the water. The monk, Sho , drove in and rescued the child. He was a kind man and chose to adopt the girl as well as take her to his home temple. {{...}}

Apologies if any of this comes out jumbled or poorly worded, I put most of this together far too late at night.

  • Name: Donovan Barrett
  • Age: 35
  • Sex: Male
  • Religion: Donovan sort of just assumes that there's some kind of divine being (or beings) out there somewhere, he just doesn't really align with any particular religious belief.
  • Job/Expertise: Adventurous Archaeologist of the Arcane
  • Appearance: Like so.
  • Personality: Calm, polite, inquisitive and possessing of a remarkably dry wit, Donovan is pretty much what you'd expect of a Archaeologist. Though his primary interest will always be the exploration of ancient ruins and unearthing the secrets held within, Donovan cares deeply about improving the life of his fellow man, hence why he accepted the Yggdrasil assignment. Despite his (fairly) scholarly nature, Donovan will do whatever it takes to ensure that any notable relics he unearths make their way back to a museum so that everyone can learn from his findings. Despite not being quick to make friends, Donovan appreciates keeping good company and will do what he can to ensure the safety of his allies, as well as sharing his knowledge with them.
  • Fears: Donovan is afraid of intense darkness. If he has enough light to just barely see, he's fine, but pitch blackness will turn Donovan into a quivering wreck. On a somewhat lesser scale, Donovan doesn't care much for deep bodies of water (rivers, lakes and oceans) due to an intense fear of drowning brought about by a near-death experience at a young age.
  • Skills and Abilities: As an Arcane Archaeologist, Donovan is well versed in both world history and the history of the supernatural and Arcane through out the ages (particularly ancient civilizations). Though unable to perform any magic himself, Donovan is quite apt at identifying the effects of magic as well as numerous supernatural creatures and their weaknesses. Due to his extensive travelling and years of reading ancient texts, Donovan is capable of reading many dead languages as well as speaking several living ones. On the combat side of things, while not an expert duelist or crack shot, Donovan is more than capable of handling most foes with his sword and can hit most targets at a reasonable distance with his pistol.
  • Equipment: Though he doesn't care much for fighting, Donovan knows that being able to defend yourself is a rather beneficial skill. Thus, Donovan carries an old British Cavalry Sword as well as a Colt Single Action Army revolver plus ammunition (and a handful of silver bullets). Another item in Donovan's arsenal is an Ancient Egyptian ceremonial dagger, though fairly useless in comparison to most of his other armaments, the Dagger has an interesting tendency to cause intense burning pain when it cuts creatures of supernatural origin. Donovan's other possessions consist of:
    • A fairly large journal that Donovan frequently updates and flits through.
    • A smoking pipe plus tobacco and matches
    • A small book containing Donovan's notes on various incidents throughout history similar to those going on in Yggdrasil.
    • An electric flashlight plus spare batteries[[note]]The flashlight as we know it came into existence some point in the 1890s[[note]].
    • A satchel to keep all of the above in.
  • Backstory: Name an ancient Civilization. Donovan Barrett's probably been through a dozen of their ruins and can tell you all about their society and their history with magic. After graduating and becoming a full-fledged Arcane Archaeologist roughly a decade ago, Donovan has traveled all over the globe, delving into numerous crypts and ruins to find out more about just how those long dead civilizations utilized their magical abilities (if at all) as well as taking note of their encounters with the Supernatural in general. Due to his expansive travelling and willingness to take risks, Donovan has made a bit of a name for himself in his field and thus why he was chosen for the Yggdrasil assignment (which he accepted immediately).

Definitely still want in this. So got about a day to come up with a character. So far we got a lady arcane sniper, a martial artist, an old soldier, and and archaeologist.

Hmm, I know I want to play a grey or black morality character who has a strong front but is an absolute coward at their core. Thinking of either a merc who specializes on guerrilla and psychological warfare, a necromantic doctor, or serial killer. I'll write a sheet in a bit, or perhaps just get distracted and completely miss deadline...

How do you kill that which has no life?

This still open? If so I'm in, here's a sheet.

Name: Lord Familius-First name unknown and was erased from all records following 'the accident' (more on that later).

Age: 83

Sex: Male

Religion: No religion. Familius only trusts himself and those that he summons.

Job/Expertise: Adept Summoner

Appearance: Familius is rather old and decrepid after an accident when dabbling into arts of immortality left him unable to be killed by old age (but any other method is completely fine). He has long white hair that he keeps under his tattered blue cloak that once used to billow behind him but now covers his whole form. From what people have seen, his face is wrinkled but he has piercing green eyes and a rather long nose.

Personality: He is instantly untrusting of everything he comes across, seeing the absolute worst in everybody. It takes a very long time to earn his trust and he is usually out only for himself. He is often very cynical and sarcastic when speaking but offers some very wise advice from his years. However, he is very proud of his abilities as a summoner and will often try to show off to people-which is why he accepted the Yggdrasil assignment int he first place. He is very introverted and only really expresses himself to Terra, the Gargoyle familiar he keeps with him.

Fears: He has an immense fear of Fire and anything involving Fire although especially magical fire as this is what caused the accident.

Skills and Abilities: Familius is an adept summoner meaning he can call on creatures to aid him or other people in battle-which is where Terra came from. Such creatures can range from swarms of pestilent insects to ravenous spiders to snarling wargs and everything in between. However he is pretty useless in battle if he cannot summon his familiars as his summoning staff is only made of wood and summoning the creatures drains his mental energy very fast so he cannot ever summon more than 1 or 2 per battle.

Equipment: Familius has brought his summoning staff which he uses as a catalyst for all his incantations to summon the familiars, his trusty gargoyle familiar Terra who is basically his pet now as well as some provisions, although mainly for him. He has some special elixirs to help him replenish the energy required for summoning as well as some provisions to heal him if he gets attacked.

Backstory: Familius was once a proud Lord from a wealthy family who owned a lavish house and had basically everything that could be wanted in this time. However he also had an obsession with the arcane; frequently he would go down to his personal laboratory to experiment with some new magical art that he had discovered until one day he happened upon something that would grant him immortality. It required a precise use of magical Fire and other arts that he had practised. Overconfident in his abilities, he attempted the ritual but it backfired, burning down his house and killing his family while sparing him and granting him immortality...from old age at least. This incident made him afraid of fire for the rest of his life and he never really trusts anything to do with the arcane that he himself hasn't come up with.

I'd be willing to step in, if the GM no longer wishes to have this RP be a thing.

[up] No offense but considering most of the interest came from FEBRUARY I don't think that's a good idea
