So, after my sister and I had a contest to see which of us could come up with the single most obscure cartoon from our youth, I remembered watching this extremely strange animated series on Nickelodeon (I'm pretty sure it was Nick, but it could have been Fox Kids), about a robot kid on a flying surfboard on a quest to... something I cant remember. Thing is, it may well actually be the most obscure cartoon ever produced, as I can only find the tiniest bits of information about it on the web. I found out that it's actually a French series originally called Bleu, l'Enfant de la Terre, but I'm completely certain that the version I watched was dubbed in English, including the theme song (it would have to have been, seeing as I don't speak any French at all.) Thing is, this show is so unheard of it doesn't even have a Wikipedia page. IM Db lists it, but only has the bare minimum of information about it, and doesn't list an English dub at all.

The only thing I've come across to confirm that the whole thing wasn't just an extremely vivid hallucination is this youtube video of the opening. Again, I could only dig up the original French opening, but there was definitely an English version of the song (and I'm absolutely certain of that because I distinctly remember the keyboard part near the end and the absolutely execrable lyrics.) Amazon and eBay have no idea what it is. It's like it was erased from existence or something.

So, anyone actually remember this thing? Any information on the English dub would be very appreciated.

EDIT: Aha! I have proof of it's existence! This Wikipedia article on shows broadcast on Nickelodeon in the UK and Ireland lists it among former programming. It was real after all!

And it was actually called, Blue, Child of the Earth. D'oh. Well it was extremely obscure and I saw it a very long time ago, so sue me for getting the title wrong.

EDIT EDIT: Aaand there was an english dub! I found the English theme song here. Oh yes, the lyrics are as shit as I remember them. I can't understand why I remember them so vividly. Maybe even as young as I was I knew I was listening to something uniquely terrible.

I vaguely remember another French series called "Our Mother Earth", about some kids and a talking spider or something. Indeed, so obscure is this show that I an unable to find any reference to it. sad

Sounds almost exactly like what I went through with The Brothers Flub ages ago.

Well, I found a Russian video site that seems to have all the episodes. They are, of course, in French.

Also, the show has the Rock Lords in it. Watch the first episode, there are definitely Rock Lords on the beach acting like retards. What are Rock Lords you say? Remember that Go-Bots spinoff toyline, with the rocks that turned into robots? There was a feature length special called Go Bots: Battle of the Rock Lords. I don't know what they're doing in this show though. Seriously, I have a toy of one of these bastards somewhere in my attic.

On top of that, there is an episode I thought was from this show called something like "Akaela and the Beast", which stuck in my memory for some unknown reason (I remember little apart from the title and the vague design of the main character of the episode), however, after watching part of Bleu, l'Enfant de la Terre, it seems that it may be from an altogether different show. The animation that I remember looked different to this. Also, there isn't an episode called Akaela and the Beast in the shows episode list.

Oh, and does anyone remember the name of a show that ran on Fox Kids, where the villain was a Doctor Doom ripoff in a beret and he ran "an evil organisation calling itself SCAR"? It was military themed, probably a ripoff of G.I. Joe. That's all I can remember from the show's intro, I just can't remember the name.

Damn, I think the nostalgia center of my brain has overloaded.

Sometime in the mid to late 90's. I'm pretty sure it was Fox Kids. And I'm UK based.

Ah, I'm pretty sure it was EXTREME something. I think the intro kept screaming the word at me. Extreme rangers? Mission Extreme? Something along those lines.

I don't know what problem you had with the lyrics, but Blue had some awesome eighties-sounding music for an opening there!

The keyboards are pretty rocking I agree. The Lyrics in the other hand are so bad they're funny, but the chorus is burned onto my memory even 20 something years later.

Still trying to find the english dub. Watching it in French just adds a whole other dimension of strangeness to it. Shame it isn't originally German, as that would make it hilarious. I can imagine what the opening would sound like being sung by some gruff German guy.

Lol, no, just my bad humour. It sounded better in my head. Not to mention significantly more like Robert Stack.

Though that would be quite hilarious if the French lyrics were just a string of rambling questions about English dub coverups and pilfered characters from a transformers ripoff.

All I can make out of the chorus, seems to go pretty much like the english version.

Bleu, l'Enfant de la Terre

L'Enfant de la planete Bleu (Which I'd hazard a guess means "The child of the blue planet" or something.

I'm not going to even attempt to translate the third line.

Then the last bit sounds like "something, something, coleur monseur." Or Mon Deu, but it can't be that.

I can't understand the verses at all, but there is a bit that sounds like Cest companion Griff et Saphir in the first verse, which pretty much sounds like that awful (but funny) line from the English version that goes Griff and Sapphire are his friends. So the whole thing may be closer to the English translation than I thought. Might explain why the dub sounds so hilariously bad in places.

I've got to admit that the French version is sounding more awesome the more I listen to it though. The guy singing just sounds so committed to singing about this weird robot kid and his magic flying surfboard. I wonder if there's a line explaining what the hell the Rock Lords are doing in the show?

I'm a stupid, the song's lyrics were in the vid's description the entire time! tongue

Here's a rough translation:

  • Surf like a flying carpet
  • The arrow of freedom
  • Running on water and wind
  • To rescue humanity
  • He wears the blue cheerful child
  • Griff and his companions Sapphire
  • Parties to defeat terror
  • Jamal and his empire

  • Blue, child of the earth
  • The child of the blue planet
  • Fights to rescue his mother
  • And make their color
  • Yes I Do! Their color in heaven

  • Needless to save his parents
  • At the heart of the ravaged city
  • Jamal infamous tyrant
  • Champion of all the magic
  • Without hatred , violence or anger
  • Blue Sapphire and helped Griff
  • Bring a light hope
  • The world that wanted to destroy

  • Blue, child of the earth
  • The child of the blue planet
  • Fights to rescue his mother
  • And make their color
  • Yes I Do! Their color in heaven

  • Blue, child of the earth
  • The child of the blue planet
  • Fights to rescue his mother
  • And make their color
  • Any color in heaven

I'm gonna try to make these lyrics into coherent English soon.

Okay, I think I got something:

  • Surfing through the blue sky
  • Like a bird so free
  • Soaring through water and wind
  • To save humanity
  • He's a cheerful, blue child
  • With friends Griff and Saphire
  • They plan to defeat
  • Jamal's terrible empire!

  • Blue, Child of the Earth
  • Child of the blue planet
  • He fights to save everyone
  • And to make the World
  • And Heavens so blue!

  • Needing to save his parents
  • From the horrible city of
  • Jamal the Infamous Tyrant
  • Champion of all Magic
  • Without hate, violence or anger
  • And with help from Griff and Saphire
  • They bring hope and life
  • To a barren world!

  • Blue, Child of the Earth
  • Child of the blue planet
  • He fights to save everyone
  • And to make the World
  • And Heavens so blue!

  • Blue, Child of the Earth
  • Child of the blue planet
  • He fights to save everyone
  • And to make the Future
  • So bright and blue!

'Master of all magic' probably works better. Champion is kind of a funny word. But otherwise good job. Much better than the actual dub lyrics anyway.

This show NEEDS to be reviewed by someone just to reinforce the kick-ass-ness of the story and theme song. It just seems like the kind of show the generation needs to remind them there's more to toons than just Adventure Time and Family Guy.

Or Les Mondes Engloutis.

It's about this civilization called the Arkadians who live in the center of the world. They created their own sun, but it's beginning to fade out. The Arkadians create an avatar, made in the form of a surface dweller to find someone to relight their sun.
