... to create a Works Page of my own Alternate Universe Fan Fic? Has that ever been done before, where a Works Page was created by the same person who created the work? Is it in really bad taste?

My fic is an Alternate Universe Legend of Zelda fic, currently running at 26 chapters with over 110,000 words on Fan Fiction Dot Net. It is a Self-Insert semi-deconstructive story about... It's a Self-Insert, that pretty much explains the synopsis. 19 year old schmuck from Earth goes to Hyrule to go through the events of Twilight Princess. It's Alternate Universe because there are a lot of changes I've made, such as the dungeons, bosses, items, weapons, plot details, minor OOC, etc.

I know I am allowed to create the Works Page, I have at least twenty tropes to add right from the start, and it's not even close to being finished, but would it be considered tacky and conceited and all that? Would it be better for someone else to make it when the story has more recognition and content, maybe six months or even a year from now?

EDIT: As if I'm not self-promoting enough, here's the link to the story: https://www.fanfiction.net/s/9223839/1/The-End-of-All-Things-Twilight-Princess

A lot of the readers for Hunting the Unicorn seem to have found it through the page I made for it. However, I created it AFTER it was recommended by another person on Glee's fanfic-recs page, because I went "huh, people like it enough to recommend it on another website. Might as well."

Do whatever you want with Troper Works—that's what the page is there for.

I myself consider it bad form. If your stuff is good enough to have its own page, then someone will make it.

There's no such thing as notoriety, though, so you're free to do it if you want to. Just don't go around claiming you're so popular that you got a Tvtropes page later.

I see. Sharysa, how much control did you have over the page? As in, did you create the main page and a list of tropes, and then other people added the Funny, Heartwarming, Tear Jerker and so on pages? Or did you create all the pages and provide examples yourself? And while you don't have any Headscratchers or Fridge Logic entries, would you answer any questions on the respective pages or on a blog or would you just not answer them?

And the fic is actually the first in a series of five Mega Crossovers. If I do make the page (haven't decided yet), would I make it a Franchise or something?

I Am Not Creative Enough, I do want to make the page, but I don't want to gain a reputation for being 'that weird guy who created a page for his own work, and it isn't even that good'. I wouldn't go around parading my 'fame', either.

I'm sorry if these questions are obvious. I want to do this right, if I do it at all.

EDIT: Ignore those questions, I have now fully read the How To Create A Works Page FAQ.

I have at least three works pages of my own stuff. I'm primarily the only one who edits them, though others seem to pop up occasionally.

I'm the main person who creates and edits my pages. I'll link the pages together somehow and maybe mention it once, but "LOL my work is so awesome it haz a tv tropes paeg"? No.

I use the pages to keep track of things, pretty much. I actually find it a nice surprise when I find out someone else has edited it.

Sub-pages are based on size—I made Hunting the Unicorn's character page because 1) the main page was getting really long, and 2) the Warblers are getting pretty damn far from their Satellite Character status. And for YMMV tropes like tearjerkers and funny moments, I go by the reviews.

Ideally, the author of the original work shouldn't be adding ymmv tropes to the page at all. But if you can be objective about it and just describe the reactions you've seen from commenters and reviewers, then I guess that's not a problem.

[up][up]Same here. It's a fairly long page but the amount of incoming links to it can be counted on one hand. I'm also not the only one who edited it, though an overwhelming majority of the content is my handiwork.

[up]I only put onto the YMMV page stuff the site says I should put there.

If you would be "that weird guy who created his own page for his stuff when it isn't really good" you wouldn't be the first. I've made three of my own. And am basically the only contributor.

The 'fame' comment was a joke. Ultimately, TV Tropes should be all about having fun, even if at times it isn't, and if you have fun making your own tropes page, you're free and welcome to do so.

I decided, what the hell, and I made the work page.

Thank you guys for your advice and support. :)
