Tropers - The first of many exciting updates to TV Tropes is upon us! In this update, we focused primarily on making the header and side navigation bars consistent throughout the site. We also reworked a ton of the backend code to allow for easier and more rapid development as we move forward.
Some of you may love the new design, others may hate it. Either way, we would love to hear from you below. We are listening, I promise.
If you have a bug to report, please use the designated thread on the Tech Wishlist and Bug Report to let us know about it.
Now get back to Troping!

It doesn't adjust when you "snap" it, so I can't use it while doing anything else, which will likely largely decrease my browsing time. Bummer.
For the curious, this◊ is what the dev wiki currently looks like in 1024x768. Note that the top bar is smaller on top of being a lighter shade of blue.
Edit: And this◊ is what a trope page looks like. Note that the edit menu options have been broken out across the top.

^ Oh I like that page. The edit and History buttons up at the top. That's perfect!
I like how the page you decided to screen cap was They Changed It, Now It Sucks!.

That looks much better, with the editing tools in easy reach. Hopefully, this will also work better for people who were having trouble with the drop-down menu on certain devices (there were posts about that, right? I remember a couple in the first six or ten pages).
Oh god no... The top of the forums is cluttered as it is... We really don't need more buttons on pages. I can understand making the edit button more prominent (or you know, actually putting the word edit on it instead of just an icon), but having so many buttons at the top of the page was one of the biggest problems I had with the old page design.
And I really don't like the header color change. Part of the problem with the old site was that my eyes tended to wander the page because nothing stood out to grab my eyes. The dark blue header is a great signal as to where the top of the page is. Making the page header lighter causes my eyes to get lost regarding where on the page they are.

I guess you can't please everyone.
I don't suppose the new coding on the website would give each user individual customization, can it? That way, those who want buttons up top can have them, while those who don't, don't have to. Or maybe a pre-set loadout or something.
That is actually on the list. But right now, other stuff takes priority.
"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard FeynmanThat works, I'd rather have it fully functional first too.
But I have to ask, is the missing space for Camel Cased names on purpose, or a bug? Because it's bothering me. note
It is not intended, but it's also not a high priority fix.
"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"I love the way the trope page looks in the picture Morganwick posted. Looks awesome!
Especially the new color for the top header. And the buttons at the top.

I liked the related button being at the far right, so switching it with history would be cool (although this is just one guy's preference and shouldn't really dictate anything). In fact, generally being able to switch around buttons in customization would be awesome.
On the subject of CamelCase in names, I'd just like to mention that that bug actually fixed my name on the forums, since it was never supposed to have spaces in the first place. I was never bothered too much by it, but since it's being brought up now, I just thought I'd mention it. If there's a way to keep my name as it is now, I'd appreciate it.
I just noticed something pretty minor: Mousing over the edit button in some places (such as YKTTW comments or the crowner description below) doesn't make the cursor change to the "click" icon. It probably doesn't make much difference, but it'll probably make it harder for new tropers to find the edit button, since it doesn't give any indication it's clickable.

TV Tropes's No. 1 bread themed lesbian. she/her, fae/faerI don't recall this ever being a problem before the update, but I noticed that italics don't work with linked text. If you try to use ''italics'' in a link, it just shows the paired single quotes.
That's actually never worked that way. In order to make a word "in" a link italics, you have start the link then stop it to put the apostrophes outside the brackets. Then, once you're finished you stop the link again, close the apostrophes, start up the link again, and continue to wherever you like. It looks like this:
[[MainPage Some text]] ''[[MainPage some more text]]'' [[MainPage even more text.]]

Let the joy of love give you an answer! Check out my book!I could have sworn I'd used italics in only part of a link before, but I guess it's not broken then.
Minor thing, but the button for the Tropers/ namespace is gone, and so is the icon for Visual Novel/.
If you've edited on The Other Wiki, or on any other wiki using their MediaWiki software, they do allow that, so you might've gotten your wires crossed a bit. (That said, allowing formatting in links is a good idea, but this is neither the place nor the time to make that request...)

I've encountered a problem on the Fanfic Recs pages, which I can only assume is related to the rollout of the new interface. For fanfics recs that have reviews, clicking the "N Reviews" button goes to the "add review" screen, with no apparent way to access the existing reviews. (Yes, you can find them in the main Reviews index, but that's cumbersome.)
On a related note, which isn't, er, related to the new layout, is there any way to add those reviews to the work page for fanfics that have work pages?

Bigotry in the name of inclusion is still bigotry.ADDENDUM: Upon accessing the reviews from the main index, the link back to the Fanfic Recs page doesn't work properly. The link looks for FanficRecs.[name of fic] instead of FanficRecs.[name of source work] and so can't find a matching page except by chance.

Bigotry in the name of inclusion is still bigotry.Question, is the forum system being overhauled any time soon?
The forum system stays mostly the same, as far as I know.

Seems like an ad to me - fake computer warnings are a favourite.
