ever pronounce a word wrong for a long time

Is that wrong though? I thought that was just the British way of pronouncing it.

I always stress the second syllable of "inventory".

Do fictional names count? If they do, when I was a kid, I always said the name of Sepulchure from DragonFable as "sculpture" and later as "skelpture"

I thought that's what the word was for quite a long time. At least only my family's heard of it though.

When I was young, I used to pronounce the word “pattern” as “patterin’”. I think that’s how I thought Rabbit said it in the PC game Ready for Math with Pooh.

I’m sure I also pronounced “yo-yo” as “yo-ee-yo”.

So apparently, Eobard Thawne's first name is pronounced "EE-oh-bard"? For some reason, I thought it was "ebberd."

For a long time I thought Persephone was pronounced purse-a-phone and not purse-eph-on-ee. Same with Eurydice, which I thought was your-ee-dice instead of your-rid-ih-cee.

I used to say "misogyny" with a hard "g."

I thought it was "you-ri-dee-chay."

I read some book where they talked about "waiting in a queue" as a kid, and thought it was pronounced "quay-way".

I thought for years that Bandicoot was pronounced "Bend-e-caught", not "Ban-dee-coot". I discovered the right pronounciation only once I played Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy.

I thought it was 'qwee-wee'.

I first saw the name "Joaquin" in some book when I was a kid. Since I knew nothing about Spanish pronunciations at the time, I thought it was pronounced "jo-AH-kwin."

I eventually took Spanish classes, and later watched The Book of Life, so I know how it's pronounced now. :P But thankfully, I don't think I ever tried to say it out loud to anyone, so at least I didn't embarrass myself in that way.

• I thought Francesca, the girl's name, was pronounced "Fran-sess-kuh".
• I thought "dissonant" was pronounced "diss-ON-ant".
• When I was just learning to read, I thought "bobble" was pronounced "bob-lee" and crocodile was pronounced "croco-dee-lay".
• According to an old log from my daycare, I used to have Elmuh Fudd Syndwome. I don't remember ever having it, but there you go.

Heron is not pronounced Hee-Ron, nor does ocarina have a long O.

It's pronounced "po-TAY-to" on both sides of the Pond. All this time I thought the Commonwealth speakers pronounced it "po-TAH-to".

I pronounced animal as "aminal" and rogue as "roog" (which made reading and talking about Warrior Cats fun... especially since I was also one of the fans who couldn't pronounce Scourge's name either)

I used to assume "continuity" was pronounced in the same way as "continue."

Oh my god I just realised too. That's gonna mess with my head for a while.

Reminds me of how I read Bowdlerise as Bowlderise (like boulder-ise) for quite some time too until I read the description.

I still can’t get myself to pronounce «anime» in Norwegian correctly.
