Anyway, I didn't know anyone looked back on Voltron or Robotec unfavorably. Anyone besides the general "its dubbed, so it sucks" crowd. Unfamiliar with battle of the planets and never heard of Star Blazer.
When you live in a world created by a revolution, you won't be able to understand what it did for the world you live in.
There was an anime fandom before the 90s, by the way.
"They say I'm old fashioned, and live in the past, but sometimes I think progress progresses too fast."And weren't they pretty much the only ones that knew it existed?
I love you.

And besides, "Forgot how revolutionary they were" sounds more like Seinfeld Is Unfunny, not Fair for Its Day, which is about when an old work is problematic but seemingly everybody was being problematic in the same way back then.
Oh! That's why the Robotech example got cut in Fair for Its Day.
I do think it KIND of applies because of the way Anime Imports were treated back in the day. Nowadays if you say you could see X Anime on Y channel with a little editing people look at you like you want to bring back 7-Zark-7. I dont blame them, though. After One Piece you cant be too careful.

Im of course talking about Battle Of The Planets,Star Blazers(Uchuu Senkan Yamato),Voltron and Robotech.
People often forget just how revolutionary they were at the time of their respective broadcasts. They single handledly increased anime's expansion overseas(Not popularity because even I know the actual anime fandom was born later with Dragon Ball and Sailor Moon which created the modern day anime fandom). And more importantly, introduced imports to Television Affiliates who didnt see Japanese Imports as profitable.
