Here we go!!! After more than ten very productive years, Fast Eddie is stepping down as the administrator of TV Tropes. To Fast Eddie – Thank You! And on behalf of all of us here, cheers to a happy retirement.
Without further ado, the new Administrators are myself (drewski) and my good friend itcdr. We are youngerish TV addicts, movie lovers, gamers, web developers, and entertainment junkies with a ton of passion for the TV Tropes project and one general goal – to make this site insanely awesome!
So, what does this mean for the community and site?
- Wiki policy: No policies are being changed. We share the values and commitment to an open, informal, breezy and fun wiki.
- Forum policy: No changes.
- The staff: The mods are staying as they are, including keeping all their current powers and authority. We will continue to work with the Mods and the Troper base as always.
- The tech wish list and site development: Coding will no longer be a one-man labour of love, so more headway can be made on fixing bugs, developing new features, and generally polishing the wiki. This may take a little time to get going as we dig through several hundred thousand lines of code…thanks for that Fast Eddie…but we will get there!
Also, if you haven’t already seen the announcement - which is probably impossible - we launched a campaign on Kickstarter to accelerate new developments on TV Tropes. Check out the campaign - https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/tvtropes/the-tv-tropes-revitalization-project - to learn more about our plans and how you can contribute - and see the awesome rewards for your help.
Please share your questions, comments, concerns and love below.

Already done, but I don't yet know if it's been fixed.
Peace is the only battle worth waging. So, about that new headbar at the top. I think they made it worse. This might surprise you, but I actually liked the old colour more. When they said the colour would change, I was hoping it would be dimmer and easier on the eyes, but instead it looks brighter and more garish than it was before. I guess it's another update on a website that I'll just have to get used to, then.
H.B. WardDid you know of the crowner on the other thread?
Did you know of the other thread?
I understand wanting to change the colour to something else, but why this colour?
H.B. WardBecause the They Changed It, Now It Sucks! crowd made it clear they wanted things to be as close to the way it was before as possible, and this is the color used for the buttons on the pre-2015 site.
Not exactly the same color but pretty damn close. This one (#CEE3F8) is slightly brighter than the old button color (#A6CAF0).
If we're talking about the light blue, I love it. It looks perfect to me.
Eh, it's not so bad now. I'm glad the yellow line around my avatar in the header is gone.
H.B. WardReally? It's still there for me.
Yet another blunt transition from the big things happening thread to the giant bugs infesting thread.
H.B. WardMorgan, have you tried to force a browser cache refresh?
Hold down the shift key while clicking on the reload/refresh button, or if you're a keyboardist ctrl-F5 (cmd-F5 for Macs, IIRC).

I think it's gone now, but I'd like to report that I don't think I can view a wiki page source in mobile mode.
How often do you do that?
Drew, as someone who long hated TV Tropes' archaic layout in the Fast Eddie days, the changes you've done so far look great. The page sources only visible on the sidebar are kinda strange, but all the other changes look great, my kudos to you and the coders who've done all the hard work so far.

Will be have a WYSIWYG (preferably live) editor for trope pages at some point?
I would certainly hope not, at least not as default. WYSIWYG editors are a pain in the ass to deal with already, add in just how finicky TVT's parser can be…
What is a W-whatever?
What You See Is What You Get. Basically, it takes care of all the formatting for you. Most small wikis have it.
And Sixth is right, it's usually more trouble than it's worth. If it's optional, maybe, but I really like knowing exactly what is wrong with formatting and how to fix it.
Yeah, just look at the brouhaha that flared when Wikipedia tried to institute a WYSIWYG editor...
I wasn't aware that Wikipedia tried that, but I'm unsurprised at the reaction it got. I've used WYSIWYG editing on Wikia and it's horrible, and that's the same wiki engine with a different (ad-filled) skin.
Putting a markup button bar might be a good idea.
We wouldn't want to install a WYSIWYG editor, but we do want to use AJAX to pull in dynamic context while editing — for example, auto-completing article titles, flagging content that's in the wrong location (YMMV in Main), and helping with disambiguation.
Obviously we'd have an alternative, more traditional interface for people who can't (or won't) do that kind of heavy scripting, but the goal is to make editing as easy as possible for tropers and to preempt many of the common mistakes.
"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"I remember when Rotten Tomatoes installed a WYSIWYG editor in its forums... *shudder*
The latest version is actually on Greasyfork. I use the script myself :P
Bugs go in Tech Wishlist.
