Here we go!!! After more than ten very productive years, Fast Eddie is stepping down as the administrator of TV Tropes. To Fast Eddie – Thank You! And on behalf of all of us here, cheers to a happy retirement.
Without further ado, the new Administrators are myself (drewski) and my good friend itcdr. We are youngerish TV addicts, movie lovers, gamers, web developers, and entertainment junkies with a ton of passion for the TV Tropes project and one general goal – to make this site insanely awesome!
So, what does this mean for the community and site?
- Wiki policy: No policies are being changed. We share the values and commitment to an open, informal, breezy and fun wiki.
- Forum policy: No changes.
- The staff: The mods are staying as they are, including keeping all their current powers and authority. We will continue to work with the Mods and the Troper base as always.
- The tech wish list and site development: Coding will no longer be a one-man labour of love, so more headway can be made on fixing bugs, developing new features, and generally polishing the wiki. This may take a little time to get going as we dig through several hundred thousand lines of code…thanks for that Fast Eddie…but we will get there!
Also, if you haven’t already seen the announcement - which is probably impossible - we launched a campaign on Kickstarter to accelerate new developments on TV Tropes. Check out the campaign - https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/tvtropes/the-tv-tropes-revitalization-project - to learn more about our plans and how you can contribute - and see the awesome rewards for your help.
Please share your questions, comments, concerns and love below.

So, drewski and itcdr, how did you become involved with TV Tropes, if I may ask? Can't say I recognise you from the forums or wiki-side.
What's precedent ever done for us?Well, this is news indeed. I've been thinking for a while that TV Tropes was getting too big for just one developer to handle, but I didn't imagine Fast Eddie actually stepping down. Then again, I suppose people have to retire at some point, for one reason or another.
Fast Eddie, thanks for all the work you've put into making the wiki happen. And good luck with whatever you'll be doing from now on.
To the new overlords admins, drewski and itcdr, welcome! I look forward to seeing what you guys do with the place.
Also, I would second the suggestion of allowing the possibility of volunteers to share the burden of code work, if that's a thing that can be done.
This "faculty lot" you speak of sounds like a place of great power...I am delighted to see that Tropes will yet survive, I wish Fast Eddie the best, and I offer my services to help TV Tropes run the best it can.
I'm so glad to see this. I love the site, but its horrible, horrible design—no offense, Fast Eddie—has always been a turn-off. Getting a full-time programmer on the staff and putting a big effort towards polishing up the wiki is...well, it's great, is what it is, and I approve. *throws money at computer screen*
Rhymes with "Protracted."I hope this means there is no longer one person or a self-appointed group of people with the power to shut down a discussion of something by saying "we're no going to do that because we're not going to do that, and we don't have to explain why."
I would be happy to help with the transition into a more user-run site if that is what is happening.
The child is father to the man —Oedipus@Iaculus: Well, I can safely say that they were never on the forums before this, as I found out back here. (Hence why I'm less surprised than most, since the Foxxy One's answer kind of gave away that there was a new programmer coming in. New admins was still news to me.)
Expergiscēre cras, medior quam hodie. (Awaken tomorrow, better than today.)Not a troll question: If you guys get enough money does that mean the P5 tropes and works get to come back?
Is a troll question: If you guys get enough money can we allow the servers to be run by The Patriots AI?
Dewski says it'll be a while before we can offer a platform for remote developers but that once we get things rolling it'll be on the agenda.
Quod gratis asseritur, gratis negatur.I hope this site can get over its anti-Something Awful fanaticism that it had in the Fast Eddie years.
Looking forward to seeing TV Tropes branch out and get newer, better, and brighter!
"Monsters are tragic beings. They are born too tall, too strong, too heavy. They are not evil by choice. That is their tragedy."I've been worried about Eddie since he seemed to just go quiet these last few months on the forums, but I'm glad to see that things seem to be okay.
(On a side note, it might be handy to add a little more information to the first post. I was confused about what was going on, exactly, when I was on my phone. I only went to my computer in order to log in to kickstarter and donate, and that was when I saw the video.)
@dotchan: I hope not, much of that stuff really shouldn't be on the site. Maybe the new owners can do some reevaluations if someone wants to make an appeal for a specific work they think got unfairly judged last time.
The Patriots choose which sites they run. (In case you're wondering, it's all of them.) We don't really have a say in that...
As for Wiki and Forum policies, there aren't really any changes in the agenda, at least in the short-term. Off-mission and troll-based stuff will probably remain excluded indefinitely.
Quod gratis asseritur, gratis negatur. If one doesn't already exists, could we establish a TV Tropes based religion for this site?
Also, so long Fast Eddie. I haven't seen you much, but thanks for starting such a wonderful site.
Now that's interesting. Wonderful that the site will no longer be a burden on one man's life.
Personally, I'm hoping that with enough money we can forget about the prospect of clearing out old forum threads to save on disk space (I know it's happened a few times).
Thanks Fast Eddie, for making one of the best websites on the internet.
"But if that happened, Melia might actually be happy. We can't have that." - Handsome RobFare well, Fast Eddie.
"Hopefully this means TV Tropes will finally be moving to HTTPS as well."
"I hope this means there is no longer one person or a self-appointed group of people with the power to shut down a discussion of something by saying "we're no going to do that because we're not going to do that, and we don't have to explain why."
I would be happy to help with the transition into a more user-run site if that is what is happening."
I second both of these suggestions.

"We learn from history that we do not learn from history."Well! I unfortunately don't have any internet money to throw at you right now, so I'll just say... I'm looking forward to standardized site layout/navigation. It's been one of the things that's bugged me. Not sure about that huge blue top bar, but I'm sure I'll stop caring after like a month.
... I don't have much else to add.

I couldn't conceive a dream so wet; your bongos make me congo. If we're fundraising, will it be possible to bring back some of the tropes that were kicked off due to fuss from advertisers? Not being able to critique and comment on works because of sexual content has strongly damaged the usefulness of this site, to me.
I don't mean 'bring back all porn pages', I mean being able to talk about Victim Falls For Rapist, which is incredibly important to critical discussion of fiction.
Good luck, Fast Eddie! And a big welcome to our new supreme overlords!
Though I have to say, I'm not thrilled about the prospects of an overhaul. I admittedly spend more time on the forums than on the main wiki, but I'm pretty okay with the site as it is. In particular, I hope wiki markup remains basically unchanged, as it's nice and simple to use.

De-evolution of this thread into another content policy debate in 10...9...8...
Jokes aside, I'd wait and see what they mean by "reduced ads". That's the big determinant of what we can and can't get away with. (That, and having more people willing to clean up pages on works with explicit content, which was the other half of the problem.)
Expergiscēre cras, medior quam hodie. (Awaken tomorrow, better than today.)We'll still be beholden to Google for ad revenue, and that won't change unless the Kickstarter explodes beyond the realm of imagination. That said, Drewski has a somewhat closer relationship with our benefactors that allows him to find out in advance when there's an issue with our content, so we don't get shut down without warning.
The content related to pornographic and pedophilic material will not be returning. That's absolute. Whether other tropes related to sexual subjects can return is up in the air. We haven't suddenly become independently wealthy and able to fund the site without ad revenue.
One positive change is that we're going to dispose of a lot of the third party ad providers that have given us so much trouble with redirects and other malicious ad behavior.

"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"I want reduced ads. They keep on slowing down my computer!
Again, TV Tropes based religion anybody?
edited 30th Nov '14 3:28:08 PM by SatoshiBakura
Uh,religion thingy no thanks.
New theme music also a boxYou can feel free to worship me, if you like. Sacrifice a cup of tea or coffee by drinking it, maybe I'll get to consume the spirit of the hot beverage of your choice...
Quod gratis asseritur, gratis negatur.
The site is now no longer his property, I think. He's around as a troper still, but under a different name.
