Talon most likely does, but doesn't seem to think that important info to give to Widowmaker.

Widowmaker is little more than a living weapon, so Talon probably doesn't deem it important for her to know that.

Wonder what is Sombra's reaction when learned that her co-worker is someone who fought in the Omnic Crisis that killed her family.

Probably just didn't care, I don't think Sombra really worries about how traumatic her upbringing was.

Sad what happened between them all.

I'd say it goes:

  • Gabby doesn't really feel inclined to tell anyone who he is/was.
  • Jack and Ana know because they knew Reyes really well and they've met Reaper, so they could tell.
  • Sombra, as the Blizzard mod said, Knows Things.
  • Widowmaker probably never met Reyes and thus has no way of guessing (if she was out and visiting her ex's grave, I doubt she's Winter Soldier level brainwashed).
  • Former Overwatch who've met Reaper and survived (such as Winston and Tracer) probably didn't know him that well (since he's was in the black ops division).
  • Anybody else who might know Reyes well enough hasn't met him as Reaper (e.g. McCree, his protégée). Sombra likes to horde her info and 76 and Ana aren't really the sort to gossip and have yet to meet up with many of the other cast members anyway. The information isn't going any further unless it becomes relevant (IIRC the current timeline in the story is "just after the events of Recall"?).
  • Mercy might have caused his condition (if their dialogue in-game is anything to go by), but wouldn't necessarily be aware (she could have attempted to save Reyes, and not known that she partially succeeded, or it could have just been her biotic technology and not her personally that did it).
  • Nobody else has any reason to make the connection (since they'd never have met Reyes personally).

@Nap: I'm not so sure about that. When she brought it up in her origin trailer, I think that's the only time she shows any kind of emotion other than smug.

[up][up] That last shot in Old Soldiers seems to imply that the three were especially close in the old OW.

That particular video also features Rein charging just below the closing gate in Old Eichenwalde, and 76 stalling a KOTH point just by running circles around it.

Rapida's videos in general mixes nice gameplay clips with good editing.

It's possible/ that Mercy saw the result of Reyes post revive, but never actually saw him in his fully covered up 2Edgy4U villain look where it's impossible to see his messed up body

I don't really see them just randomly running into each other before Overwatch got reformed.

Pardon the sandwich post and topic interruption(?), but I'd like to ask a question about a friend in this game.

So I have a certain individual on my Bnet friends list, a fellow OW player. He's a DPS/tank main with most time in Soldier for the former and Rein for the latter. His backup mains are Genji, Bastion, and Lucio. We often play together, and often duo queued back in Season 3 competitive.

He plays his mains well, very often getting POTGs and multiple gold medals. But Season 3 was his first comp season, and he placed in high bronze (about 1350-1450) while I got placed in mid-Silver (exactly 1750). He's extremely upset about this, and has since become rather...toxic. As in, he utterly loathes players who play or even main sniper heroes (except Ana), and especially Sym and D.Va. He thinks both of them should be deleted from the game outright, Sym because she's "a braindead, tasteless, skilless hero to play" and D.Va because he regards her as a useless feeder. As far as I know, however, he never actually says any of this in teamchat - almost all of the time he just quietly seethes to me in private or group chat, in or out of a game.

Here's the thing: IF I ever plan on coming back to Comp, duo-queuing with him is probably one of my best, if not the, best chance for me to climb. I say this because what he mains, he plays really, really well, and when we duo-queue in QP we're consistently matched against players whose current SR hover in the platinum-diamond range, so I can infer his matchmaking rating probably is that high.

Yes, I fully realize that I too have to improve myself (and I am doing so, in some measure, by widening my hero pool to picks like Reinhardt and Zarya. But honestly, since OW is a team game, I can only do so much after all - past a certain limit, I certainly have to have good teammates to win game. However, I do dislike his views on certain heroes as mentioned above. I also don't like how he's really set on his hard carry play mindset - virtually to the point where his attitude proves detrimental to teamwork. Then again, given his S3 SR and who he plays, I personally cannot put all blame on that kind of thinking (I believe DPS can possibly carry in certain circumstances; Supports less so, even Ana and Zen).

So given all that, what should I do with a friend like this?

Are you sure your friend really is as good as you think he is? POT Gs and gold medals don't matter as much as many people think, this is a team game focused on objectives after all. And I have high suspiscions of someone being "really good" and ending up in bronze.

Granted, I also ended up in high bronze in season 4, but I suffer no illusions of myself being good, let alone good enough to override that kind of toxicity.

[up] I just like to record my POT Gs when they happen, it's just fun. Other than that, I'm more into attacking the objective with my team.

[up] Oh, sorry, I was talking to Dark Destruction. Should have clarified that. Oops.

My point was POT Gs and gold medals don't really measure actual usefulness to the team. A Reaper that holds onto his ult forever because he wants a 4, 5, or 6 kill despite several opportunities of a 3-kill securing the objective... a Mercy that waits until 4 people die for a POTG res and ends up among those 4 who die to begin with... you get the picture.

I think Reinhardt is the worst contender in that regard. You might be there, standing with your shield up in the most crucial spots the entire game, making the difference between winning and losing... but all you get to show for it is a possible inclusion in the end card voting. Possibly.

Reinhardt's best chances for a PotG generally involves a Lifesaver or him managing to murder everyone while Nanoboosted. I managed to get a PotG on him before just by solo-ulting a 76 who was boosted and had his ult running.

My Rein POT Gs mostly happen from ulting, then charge one of the survivors, and a few smacks on a few others + optional fire strike.

But Reins shouldn't think their ult is point-clearing kill machine. It's not. It's a stun. If you want to clear points with it, you need your team. It works best with Reaper or Soldier ults. D.Va and Mc Cree need a bit more timing, because those ults start slower and the enemy might still escape from short Earthshatter stun.

@Luminosity - fair point. I think he's in way over his head, as well. I suppose for now I won't queue up with him, since ultimately skill doesn't justify toxicity.

Thanks.

To me, toxicity is like a Moral Event Horizon. You can be a skilled player but do one toxic thing in front of me and I don't even want to deal with you anymore. A good game is where you all do your best and be good sportsmen. Instead of being utter Glory Hound for wins or POT Gs.

And that's why I don't play Ranked. Ever. Unless the trend changed and toxicity is curbed, I won't give a fuck about being in Bronze or Platinum. Or that golden gun.

Double post, but... to be honest, I've been learning about other things from Overwatch. Now when it comes to Lucio, I hear that while he has some detractors (oh blasphemy)... they seem to say that his faults was... being too much of a stereotypical Brazil dude.

What's the Brazil stereotypes that Lucio adheres? Because I sure knows he doesn't play soccer (he prefers hockey, and I don't think Lucioball counts), he doesn't use any forms of Capoeira, his 'funky' speech style was because he's a DJ not because he's Brazilian, dark skin is pretty common for Brazilians, and... um.... what else, I dunno much about Brazilian stereotypes. Except the typical "Being really toxic in video games" like "Huehuehuehuehue" which Lucio doesn't (since the gamer archetype is on D.Va)

Well, what else did I miss about Brazil? Probably a lot, but fill me in.

There is a certain Fun Personified -stereotype with Brazillians. Also Lucio's football skins do mention he used to play it in the past, which I assume can be considered canon.

Lúcio does play soccer according to the description to his Olympics costumes on the PTR, he just likes hockey more I guess. One of his emotes (the one where he kinda breakdances a bit) is also a bit reminiscent of the capoeira I believe.

Brazilians are usually assumed to be really friendly, upbeat and casual, which Lúcio definitely fits in. The favelas are also a big part of people's perception of Brazil and, of course, Lúcio came from one. There's also the stereotype that Brazilians are all very attractive people and, well, YMMV on whether that applies to Lúcio or not lol
