Attack on Titan is really good.

Spider-Man is going to get nom'd by Titan though, isn't he?

I'd ask "Why?", but I'm pretty sure I could come up with a few relatively good answers on my own.

Attack on Titan is great.

Is this just going to be like Marvel Zombie then?

Is this a Jo Jo reference?

Hulk is calmer than Eren.

When I first heard about it I thought it was a joke. But no, apparently it's real.

I... honestly don't know what to think about it. Just hope it won't be a Marvel Zombie remake.

I know there's supposed to be a gap of about 100 years, but I hope that at least the Shifters appear.

So do I. Would be a bit disappointing otherwise.

I... wait... what?

Honestly, I have never seen Attack on Titan, mainly because it (or at least the manga,) isn't finished yet. When it comes to works of fiction that are supposed to be finite stories, (like most anime and manga,) I tend to wait until it's over and done with before plunging in, so that I don't have to wait for who knows how long after I start it to finish it up. Works such as most comics, as well as some TV shows (like Doctor Who,) are instead ongoing works that are likely to never truly end, so I just go and watch them anyway.

The point is, I have never seen or read Attack On Titan, and because of that, a crossover such as this just seems... bizarre, to put it mildly.

i do not foresee this ending up well. these east vs west things tend to fall flat because one side doesn't understand the "spirit" of the other due to the inherent differences in culture and such.

[up][up]Like Marvel Manga Verse? (And speaking of which, Chuck Austen wrote a Ghostrider special for it. Make of that what you will.)

This seems really, really unfair to the Attack on Titan setting. Tell Spider-Man what the average person knows about the setting and hand him a length of rebar and he'll become a one man Titan genocide, at least until the special titans come out.

Ah, but to make it an entertaining story, they'll probably futz with power levels a little, make Spidey forget how strong and agile he's supposed to be. That'll be fine. Maybe something from the Marvel Universe will interact with the titans and make them even more dangerous.

[up][up] Basically. Instead of incorporating the distinct storytelling and cultural sensibilities that make manga what it is and creating a genuinely japanese version of marvel superheroes, they just went with the most stereotypical perceptions of japan imaginable (ninjas, hulk becoming godzilla, etc) and creating something pretty terrible in the process.

what they should have done is just gotten actual japanese artists to do work for them and given them free reign.

I wouldn't really compare this to Mangaverse. This is an actual Japanese property that presumably is going to have actually Japanese people involved in some capacity (if nothing else someone had to sign off on this over there).

Mangaverse was a bunch of Americans (a lot of them who were already adults) trying to do what their idea of anime was despite clearly not having seen much of it.

Actually, that makes me think: what about the Marvel anime ? Were they written by actual japanese writers or americans?

Pitched as, "What if the titans from Hajime Isayama's 'Attack on Titan' attacked the Marvel Universe," Cebulski confirmed that the project is "not a joke" and that the crossover will drop in two weeks in Japan.

...I'm pretty sure the Marvel Universe would collectively stomp all over the Titans, but I don't read/watch Attack on Titan so I could be wrong.

The titans will probably be cosmic powered or something. There had to be a way for them to get there, after all.

But on the other hand, imagine Survey Corpsmen trying to take on Galactus!

Yeeeeah. THAT got your attention, didn't it?

Power levels in comic books vary vastly anyway. That's why we have The Worf Effect.

While I agree the Titans would definitely not be the insane near unstoppable monsters they are in their source material when put against the Marvel Universe, I think it's pretty harsh to assume right away they would be a nuisance at best. I mean, Titans essentially are giant zombies, and as such they can still cause a crisis by swarming in cities and devouring civilians. Now of course that would raise the question of why wouldn't the army be able to take them done, what with them having much more advanced weapons and tech than people in the AoT universe...

Zombies are a good analogy - they would have to come fast, in great numbers and not stop coming to be more than an open-and-shut case for someone like Thor or Iron Man.

They would be a lot like the Mole Man's monsters, really.

[up]Exactly.

On a note, anyone else think a Hulk vs Titan fight would be awesome?

There's also the rather horrifying possibility that scientists like Reed Richards would rather study a Titan than try to fight them off. He'd be fascinated by how childlike their behavior would seem to someone unaware of the Titans' true nature, and somehow wind up creating more Shifters somehow.

And there's a horrifying thought for you; Marvel Superheroes becoming Titans and their powers carrying over.

[up]Now the last one REALLY is terrifying. But can that even work? How do people become shifters? I only watched what's up in the anime.
