Thirteen each of wicks and inbound links.
The trope currently described at Off Like a Shot seems like the common cartoon running antic described on The Twelve Principles of Animation. I'd say Running Antic, Running Anticipation, Cartoon Running Antic, or Cartoon Running Anticipation would make a better name for this trope.
The name "Off Like a Shot" should be used for characters seeming to disappear as they run off.
I thought there was a trope page for the puff of smoke thing, but the closest I could find was Smoke Out, which isn't quite the same thing.

Recently had a query come through the Lost And Found looking for "a cartoon character dashing suddenly with a zipping sound, leaving just a puff of smoke behind"
First suggestion to pop into most of our heads was Off Like a Shot. The description of off like a shot, however has issues: As Solip Schism put it:
But then, equally fairly enoughly, a character running off so fast that they seem to disappear is not necessarily a part of this trope.
Even more equally fairly enoughly, a cloud/puff of smoke is also not a constituent.
Neither one would make a situation not this trope, but they're also not necessary. A character simply striking this pose and then jogging away would qualify perfectly well.
On top of that, if a character didn't strike that pose, then it wouldn't be Off Like a Shot.
