His Shadow seems too similar to Eddie to not think that it could be a potential reference. Plus, it's not like the Mangaka hasn't been referencing other games so far...

Infinite Girl can nullify his weight making easy to carry.

Shadow Falcon can attack with his stand without having to let go.

Gadget girl can buff every member of her team with her gadgets.

Deku will have to count on his brains since his quirk still is a self-destructive one.

But since no one knows what his quick is, he has the element of surprise. They can't Rush in recklessly no matter how many points he's worth.

Viz picked up the license for this faster than I expected.

You know, for the most part this manga is pretty good and it can get better, but I just want to talk about how *bad* some things are. but everybody is still in the "best thing ever" phrase. The biggest problems are that this series adds literally nothing to shonen. I saw some people try to justify it as "Deku is actually badass not a cry-baby". But that's wrong. He's both. Some people say that he's not the usual shonen MC because he's not a scardy cat. Uh, have we read the same manga? Sure, Naruto is a crybaby at times, but Ichigo, Luffy, Gon etc are anything but. If anything, he's more of a crybaby than them. I'm not saying that's a bad thing, i actually like Deku, but goddamn he's no more than the shonen classic protagonist. About the rival, Kacchan is one of the most nonsensical characters ever writteb. his personality is basically what his personality needs to be in the plot at the moment. Characters should neber be written for the plot, but they should be organic beings with feelings and their own life. The often-compared-to Sasuke makes much more sense, and i say that as a Naruto hater. His whole life he he was lied to, betrayed and he never knew the truth. all his actions made sense and were in character. Someone could argue his last second Face–Heel Turn wasn't, but really, the whole ending is not canon for me so that doesnt matter. Kacchan is a arrogant explosive asshole... except when he isnt because of plot. Also can we talk about how we're 27 chapters in and there's still no sign of a plot? So they trained, and then they trained, and then OMFG EVERYONE IS GOING TO DIE, and then there's some Tournament Arc. Holy fuck, nothing ever happened yet. I'll give it the benift of the doubt because One Piece wasn't in a much better state 27 chapters in. But really, i really hope it picks up soon. There doesnt have to be some huge Power Creep Its-The-End-Of-The-World plot, just... something. For example, The tournament is stopped by villains and All Might dies. (like Naruto). As of right now, i coudlnt care less about the rankings of the same 20 students i already know.

Are you sure there's no sign of plot because I think that secret villain alliance and the computer guy getting intrigued that Deku has a similar power to All Might is some indication of the plot.

There's nothing inconsistent about Bakugou's character. He's mean, self-centered, extremely prideful and full of ability. That has not changed, but he's been humbled. He is not able to boast as loudly as he could before, though his goals in life remain mostly unchanged. I literally have no idea what you're talking about when you say "written for the plot." He has done nothing out of character.

As for Midoriya, sure, he's not some completely original and totally unique protagonist. So what? He doesn't have to be. I love Luffy, but he is basically just Son Goku re-skinned with a pirate outfit and different powers(you won't find Oda denying that). It's what the author does with the character and how the character interacts with the story and other characters that matters, and Midoriya's path has already been satisfying to watch. It is interesting to see him strategize and reason. As far as WSJ protagonists go, I know of very few characters of his archetype from any sort of successful series. And it wouldn't matter even if he wasn't.

An overarching plot has already been teased. In fact, just the deal with Midoriya inheriting All Might's powers IS a plot. Naruto wants to be Hokage, Luffy wants to be the Pirate King, Gon wants to be a licensed Hunter. Midoriya MUST become the next symbol of peace. There's a key difference between the characters' initial dreams and goals, and that difference gives Bn HA an overarching plot from the get-go where the other series mentioned have none for a long time.(One Piece doesn't really form any sort of overarching plot at all before way into the Skypiea arc, and that's REALLY far into the series) And that's not even touching on the villain alliance, which has already teased conflict to come. A plot to kill All Might by villains who are aware of his condition? The villains taking note of Midoriya? Genetically engineered superhumans? Sounds like hell'uva lot of plot to me. It honestly sounds to me like you're literally just skimming chapters when they come out and go from there.

I wouldn't say it's reached "Best thing ever" status yet. Right now it's still at the "Very enjoyable; Looking forward to each chapter with anticipation" tier for me.

The plot is about Deku's quest to become a hero, and that's not going to happen overnight.

So does Team Deku automatically win if they can keep the million point headband from being snatched? All they'll have to do is pull off some crafty evasive maneuvers and they'll be golden.

@Alexandro: Umm, dude. This manga isn't even at 30 chapter <_< Also, what the heck you are talking about, shonen protagonists aren't usually scaredy cats, they are just determinators and/or idiot heroes...

Also, wouldn't that just be cliche if tournament arc is interrupted and mentor dies?

His classmates already know that is a kind of super strenght and they are aware that he does damage himself when he uses it. They are just not aware that it is the One for All.

If I was one of the competitors it would be like: "Attacking that guy will disable him but it will probably mess myself up horribly." Best tactic would be to make him use the power but miss the target, self-destructing for nothing.

Still, considering the mess this will be, the fact that Midoriya doesn't want to hurt these people, and that there are other trials in the tournament (not viable if hurt) he is pretty much locked in normal mode.

I just hope he doesn't win everything in his first sports event (lame) and that other students can shine.

To be honest you seem to be thinking that a good Shonen series needs to add something new all the time.

What matters more is if the writing is good and if the way the manga is executed matters more then being subversive just for the sake of it ( Cough, Medaka Box Cough).

Not all the time, but the state in which Bn Ha is rn just doesnt make me want to click on the next chapter button, if that makes sense. It's like what'd happen if you'd make a supercomputer and gave it the task to create a shonen.

Even if One Piece didnt add anything new (which is debatable), at least it stays interesting enough to check it every thursday and barely be able to avoid reading spoilers.

Well, hey, if its not interesting enough to click the next chapter button then don't!

Take time away. Maybe remember this little manga in a year or hear rumblings of some cool thing and come back to see if it became more appealing to you. Or maybe never come back, find another fish in the sea.

Because seriously, despite your protestations you don't seem to enjoy it and life is too short wasting on things that you don't get enthusiastic about.

I want to see if gadget girl becomes a regular, at least. It sounds like she could potentially help Deku get his powers under control.

Heck yes! I hope Mei was so closely introduced specifically because she will become a regular! I like her personality and love her design. What do you guys think her quirk is, though? My guess is one that allows her to transport stuff easily. Like, Momo's quirk in reverse or something. After all, where did she keep all those gadgets that she just suddenly seems to spawn in front of Midoriya?

Since the story specifically mentions that kids from the sideki--er, hero support division could potentially move into the hero bracket, we can expect to see at least one do so, and Mei seems likely.

I only now noticed that Midoriya is actually wearing the jetpack in the last page. Interesting.

I suspect her powers may have something to do with her funky eyes.

Alexandri098 instead of it seeming like everyone believing this is the best thing ever you seem to want to just go out of your way criticize it for things that don't deserve criticizing because you seemed convinced it's going to turn out like Naruto for no actually understandable reason.

But, that's just my take on things.

I am still really hoping Mei establishes herself as a tech-based hero, though given previous comments on the setting it's becoming less and less likely.

Also cool to see Tokoyami get a bit more spotlight. Still wondering why the hell he's a bird though.
