Eh, hate to generalize but when you get Eastern European anti immigration and nationalistic groups they're probably Nazis.

Place is riddled with them.

Oh really when?

It's not just the one though. It's at least two.

And I dunno. Even if it is just a couple members of the team, their "message" still comes through.

[up][up]This is true.

[up] I dunno. Take, HPLovecraft, for example. His racism was off the charts, even for his time. Sometimes, it spilled over into his work. Sometimes it didn't.

PS: Obviously, there's no comparision between Lovecraft & this game's creators in any other field.

And, see, the times HP's racism did flow over into his work are pretty much enough to put me off anything he ever made (Things that are inspired by his work, however, are usually fine.)

And I feel like, even if the game isn't racist, even if it just hates everyone equally, it's still gross.

That's unarguable. I don't even think it's a (failed) attempt to be "dark & edgeh". It's more like the video game equivalent of that one You Tube guy who used to pay-up homeless people to fight, break into shops & pull their teeth out for "entertainment". And to "send a message", of course.

Honest: check out the Videogame Cruelty thread, and the Videogame Cruelty Potential trope. We've done far worse.

I'm more annoyed that this is going to start another big "uproar" on tumblr (how I hate them).

Akira Toriyama (April 5 1955 - March 1, 2024).

I really don't think that's true.

The entire conceit of this game is "People suck. We should kill every single one of them." That's it.

Most cases of Video Game Cruelty Potential are either an option in a game that also allows- and usually encourages- you to be good, or not meant to be taken seriously.

The only redeeming quality of this nonsense is the extreme tackiness of the protagonist's monologue. The gameplay itself doesn't even try to invoke Poe's Law.

[up][up][up] You can do worse, but the game rarely makes you do worse. Actually I don't think there's ever been a game like this but the first Postal, and even then that kind of got turned around with Postal 2 being a comedy game where you can get into a gunfight with Gary Coleman and take a leak on his corpse. Basically, it's so detached from reality that there's no real gravity to anything you do. But this is a game about a total psycho being a total psycho portrayed fairly realistically.

If nothing else, I suppose we'll see the first big "do video games cause violence?" controversy in a few years, but honestly I hope not because, with the devs being neo-Nazis and all, I really don't want this game to get attention and sales.

[up] Yeah, really shows that the game is angling for the "edgy teen" market. So does the guy's outfit; it's what an angsty 14-year-old thinks is cool. Anyways, actual spree killers (see: Eliot Rodger) look nothing like that.

If the point about the game being made by White supremacist/neo-Nazi is true, then this game seems like a modern version of Ethnic Cleansing...

Also, Uwe Boll's Rampage, anyone?

Give me cute or give me...something?

To be fair, Rampage was better than that. Way better. In fact, while still nowhere a great film, it was leaps and bounds above Boll's usual level of shittiness. It even had a few genuine sparks of cleverness, quite the opposite of his Postal adaptation, with its worn-out gags and obsolete internet jokes.

Okay, do we have any real dirt on the developers being Neo-Nazi's other than that laughable tumblr blog?

Anyway, the trailer was pretty damn unsettling, but I think that's what the developers were aiming for (they blatantly state the the game is part horror on their site). If so then it certainly did its job, that's for sure.

The game feels too tryhard in concept. Also maybe because it's NYC but somebody pointed out that a lot of the characters killed in the trailers are minorities save for like 2, one being a cop.

Some dude on Gaf who claims he speaks some degree of Polish or at least understands it said the neo nazi thing was typical tumblr nonsense and the shirt was supposedly something about honoring dead Polish soldiers from Hitler's invasion or something. Idk about the political party link but if the guy does hold such gross views, that compounded with the above detail could make for a pretty nasty situation.

I don't think it's fair to equate a hope that this tripe falls under the radar with censorship. Being allowed to say what you want isn't the same as being owed general recognition — the vast majority of works get effectively ignored by the public even when they aren't just being pointlessly offensive. The game seems like just one giant, cheap cry for attention, and I'm loathe to provide more than this post and the dislike I gave the trailer.

Text I feel is necessary to append to every post.

I think I cut myself on that edge. The gameplay will probably be horrible just like the Postal games.

I didn't realize the painkiller team was full of nazis. They probably should have kept to killing demons.

I find it sort of funny that they're saying they want to strip away all the politics and just make a murder simulator. Those two thoughts really do not flow or they're incredibly thick. That a naz-er I mean "anti-immigration right wing eastern european" would make this game after the whole brevik situation is a bit tasteless.

I mean it could be a sweet reveal where you play the nutter for the intro and then it abruptly switches to the cop who guns him down and the rest of the game is hunting down copy-cats and musing on violence and how society reacts to it. I really don't expect it but that would be cool.

...You know, that is a pretty rad idea. Depressingly, you probably put more thought into that idea than the developers of this did for, well, anything.

Looks like a cross between Postal and Hotline Miami. And heck, wasn't there a level in one of the Call Of Duty's that had your killing a bunch of civilians in an airport? This isn't anything new, other than the complete and utter lack of context for the killing. _________________________________

And that's the main thing. For all the protests about them not liking games as art, stripping a piece of work of all context to show us what we do with our free time is pretty fucking artsy. Gaze upon thy works gamer and know your true self.

Great age gate. I smashed some letters on my keyboard and it accepted it as a date. Also, I guess the game is so bad that it blue-screened my computer. I'm not going back to their site and as such have no strong opinions on this at the moment.

The more people get offended about and discuss it, the more widespread its reputation becomes.

Looks like a one-dimensional murder simulator people will get bored with after a week or two, so long as Pewdie Pie or some other big name personality doesn't help it along.
