Yeah, that's pretty weak...I'd like to see some suggestions before making a decision on replacing it, though.

It's okaaay, but it's too tall, please for the love of god don't save it as a JPG, and it seems like it could be more concise. Much better than the suggestion, but I'm a bit meh on it.

Better, but you should take those screen grabs again. Once an image is saved as a JPG, the quality is permanently reduced. See that noise around the character in the top? That's why you should never save anything as a JPG. Always always always save images as PNGs.

Does it actually count when it's the character from a previous game? I mean, some games have a character pull a Heel–Face Turn in between games and become the Big Bad, but I wouldn't count that.

I don't like 9 because the new guy isn't dressed differently enough. For all I know it's the exact same person fighting his doppelganger. Yeah, the cap is backwards, but he has a cap and what we see of his shirt looks to be the same design.
Get a screencap of Kris (Pokemon Crystal) or Lyra (Pokemon Heart Gold/Soul Silver) going up against Red, and problem solved.

I dont know, it feels a little off. I think it needs to be more clear that you played as him there are many games where you name the villain or other things that are not a player character and such.
Maybe a picture of Red's status screen instead? or a picture of Red fighting something? Heck I think the next line after naming 'so your name is Red' would work better than current suggestion.

This one relies way too heavily on the caption to give any explanation. The image itself doesn't give any indication of who the player characters are or that they are even fighting.
I think we may have to go with a two-part image here. It's take me a little time to screen cap it, but I'd suggest a pair of screenshots from Mega Man X5. Top: The character select screen to establish X and Zero as player characters. Bottom: Their Boss Battle from the same game.
