Like I said, I can't stay active in them. I do not really post much in the RP forums. Sometimes I just disappear.

[up][up]You can try running a game yourself to set it to the pace you want, like posting a minimum of every 12 hours and continuing on regardless of player input. Otherwise chat-rooms, MMORPGs, or even in-person games tend to be faster paced, as they happen in real-time; so if you find all play-by-post type games too slow they're a better bet, plus there's tons of venues on the web.

Got me thinking... I wonder how difficult it would be to set up an IRC server as an alternative to play-by-post (or vice versa for scheduling conflicts). Javascript IRC clients can be embedded in a webpage, rather than needing separate program, maybe one could be embedded in a RP forum topic-header or something. And possibly altered to link Wiki Words.

Just waiting for everyone to make an application, and I'll make a Discussion thread later.

Going over the background material again, I now (sort-of) want to make a mage who's a bitter old Nay-Theist, hell bent on revenge for the loss of their (formerly large) family to various gods, played for laughs via ridiculously implausible misfortunes that (mostly) weren't any gods' fault (except for one instance of But for Me, It Was Tuesday). Maybe even culminating with this years meeting as the focus for some grand ritual that's been set up over two years. However, I don't think they'd be very fun to play after running into the whole Fate Worse than Death thing that would happen regardless of whether or not the spell actually worked.

  • Name: Johann Oxenhandlersson
  • Race: Human (demi-golem)
  • Age: 22
  • Abilities and Skills: Johann is fairly capable with swords, axes, spears, and his own arms, which can transform to a degree. He has experience with several different forms of hand to hand combat, though primarily a weapons user, and can even track a little. Surprisingly, he also can use fire spells thanks to the inscriptions on his arms, and is a decent cook.
  • Inventory: One falchion, two daggers, an axe, assorted odds and ends in his pack, like a blanket, candles, rope, some mice, rations, and probably only Schizo knows what else.
  • Self: Johann is slightly pudgy, though his strength and endurance will surprise you, with close cropped blond hair, green eyes, and wire framed glasses. A constant blush is seen on his cheeks. He is often seen wearing a heavy black travelling cloak with a well worn pack on his back. Curiously, Johann never is seen without gloves on, in hopes of disguising what exactly his arms are made of, he even wears them when it’s plainly obvious, like when the cloak is discarded in the heat of battle. The arms themselves are the color of clay, with blue designs swirling up and down them, resembling a seal of some kind. Personality wise, Johann is usually sarcastic, but he seems almost bipolar, switching to shy, psychotic, happy, and depressing at the drop of a hat.
  • Backstory: Growing up on a small farm on the Western Continent, Johann was thrust into the service of a local lord after his father failed to meet his the lord’s tithe. Soon, young Johann was thrust into battle at the lord’s command, as a young man at arms. Surprisingly, the young lad survived countless skirmishes, until losing one arm in battle, and the hand of the other arm. A travelling man of magic helped the lad regain his life, however, when he replaced the boy’s arms with golem parts, even teaching Johann over the next year as he came under the employ of the boy’s lord. Over the next five years, Johann served his lord dutifully, fighting in his name before leaving his employ to travel the Western Continent and beyond.
  • Current location: Einheit.

All right, here we go, finally:

Name: Jenna Iolani

Race: Beastkin (Sparrow)

Abilities & Skills: Jenna is a fairly good fighter with the large hunting knife she carries. She also has a decent knowledge of botany, or at least is able to find various common poisons, medicines, and edible herbs, though she can't do much more than identify them. As a Beastkin, she can transform into a sparrow and speak to others; she uses this ability mostly to get information about the goings-ons of the area she lives in, especially for information about intruders.

Inventory: A large hunting knife, and a small leather backpack used for carrying supplies and whatnot.

Self: Jenna is a big woman, tall, solidly built, and muscular from years of living and fighting in the wilderness. Her hair is a very light brown color with a paler stripe running from each temple backwards, cut short just below her ears, and her eyes are so dark as to appear black. Her skin has the ever-so-faint impression of feathers. She has an ugly scar on her chest, which translates to her sparrow form.

Jenna doesn't speak much, and this in combination with her tendency to stare unblinkingly at things tend to make her seem rather unnerving to most people she meets. Her (peaceful) interactions with other people are very scarce, however; most of the time when she sees another person it's because she's trying to kill them for hunting. She does occasionally meet with a handful of people to trade for things she can't find or make herself, however. She mostly dresses in loose-fitting linens, but has a suit of leather armor for fighting.

Jenna is rather rigid and uncompromising. She takes her duty to Bestial and her home very seriously, and does not take kindly to intruders or hunters. She is suspicious of most people and bad at connecting with them. While she doesn't trust others, she herself is very trustworthy. She stands by her promises and her friends—though she doesn't make either easily. She will work with others, but only if she deems it necessary.

While she may seem cold at first glance, Jenna is very protective of the weak and defenseless. She will lay down her life for anything that can't help itself, and is rather self-sacrificial if she decides something is worth fighting for.

Backstory: Jenna was born out in the wilderness where her father farmed a small homestead with himself and her mother. They had planned to start a family, but when Jenna was very young her mother died of sickness. Overcome with grief, her father started paying less and less attention to her and the homestead started to go to ruin. As a young girl, Jenna would often range far from the house and stay away for days on end. She learned what wild plants she could eat when her father had nothing for her, and she became very fond of birds—often, she would lay in the grass and watch them fly around.

Her father died when she was a teenager, but she could hardly even bring herself to grieve his death after seeing the wreck he had become in his last years. Now on her own, Jenna all but abandoned the house, using it mostly as a storehouse and shelter for extreme weather conditions. In the rather desolate plains where her parents had set up their homestead, Jenna went years on end without seeing another person.

One day, she came upon a man skinning a hare. Overcome with shock and rage, she attacked him. Surprised, the man fought back, slashing her with his knife. She managed to wrestle the knife away from the man and stabbed him, but passed out from her own wounds. Bestial found her there and when she woke up, Jenna pledged herself to her service. Bestial charged her with protecting the area from those who would harm her creatures, and mutated her into a Beastkin.

Jenna still lives in the area, using her ability to understand sparrows to learn of any hunters in the area. Once she finds them, she travels to where they are and either scares them off or kills them.

Loving these characters. .. a magical monstrosity with two souls, a prickly marked healer, an assassin doppelganger, a half golem soldier and a slightly homicidal sparrow-lady. This is gonna be fun.

I'll write a draft for my character, send him to the GM for approval and see what happens.

Discussion is now up! Though, I'll address the latest posts here.

First, the correct term would be Demi-Golem. Basically the magical equivalent of a cyborg as well, and speaking of real cyborgs would be referred to as Demi-Golems as well. Robots would obviously be called (Mechanical) Golems. I would also like a specific age and his current whereabouts.

Justanid, you could always use that as a sub-character to drive a plotline. In addition they could be a (rogue) member of The Bloodied Rose Chain, which I have plans for anyways. Though since you brought that up, will you still be using the character you already made or will you go with a different one?

I would also like a specific age for Jenna and a percentage/etc of how much she is sparrow by default. Besides that, any more information on her relationship with Bestial and other Beastkin would be nice.

Besides all that, I'll start the RP in a day or two from now.

I'll stick with the twin-soul character I put up the sheet for, The Bloodied Rose Chain sounds like they'd make for interesting antagonists and a rogue member might just complicate things. Plus I think any character who could stand a chance against a unified pantheon would be overpowered and I wanted a character who could self-regulate if need be without depending on an Idiot Ball.

A specific age? I'd say... early twenties, like 22-23 or so?

I wouldn't think she's ever met any other Beastkin, since she's pretty isolated, but she might have heard stories of them when she was a little girl. She'd probably be very interested in meeting other people like her, but she hasn't so far.

As for her relationship with Bestial, she's hardly a favored servant or anything and hasn't ever seen her in personal again, but she's very devout and prays regularly to her.

  • Name: Orochian (given to him by others)

  • Age: 25

  • Race: Beastkin

  • Abilities & Skills: His snake humanoid form allows him night vision. Orochin can shed his skin causing him to regenerate any wounds or limbs lost. His fangs deliver a potent fast acting venom which can kill a normal human in a matter of minutes. Ironically, his venom in it's raw form must be used to synthesize the cure for the poison and can be used to cure other maladies. He can deliver the venom from his nails if they break the skin. He also has an ability he names the snake charmer, which allows him to slightly manipulate others movement using his snake companions which slither on his body. He can also camouflage to hide from or stalk enemies if need be. He is a peerless hunter. He can track anything that has a scent due to his serpent tongue. His main form is dagger fighting and foes and biting his foes if he can, commanding his snakes to swarm and attack an enemy, using stealth take them out before they know what is occurring, or to simply flee. A large draw back to his biology is that he can easily be incapacitated by the cold, and in fact as soon as it gets below a certain temperature he will fall unconscious until he is removed from the cold. He cannot handle the cold, plain and simple, he is cold blooded in the literal sense.

  • Inventory: He carries around a bag of medicine (for others) a pillow and a sheet, as well as well a knife and cooking instruments. Snake Companions slither over his body and he uses them to hunt for food or to attack enemies. He wields two daggers he calls fangs.

  • Self: Being a beastkin he is in a state between human and beast. He tends to flick his tongue out of habit and not to follow scents as most snakes do, he has a nose that's just as effective. He is rather frail looking, even for a human, he is very lean. He has a serpentine tongue, brown eyes, brown Skin , is bald, and in fact hairless due to his constant shedding. Large patches of skin are actually snake scales and his eyes are serpents. Being a beastkin who according to others is of questionable morality due to prejudice over his beast form or how he carries himself, not worrying about standards that most humanity holds itself too he isn't trusted. A trait he takes from Bestial. However this prejudice is not because of his actions, but because of what he is. He has no thoughts on other beastkin, too him because of his treatment by most normal humans most sentient beings are pretty much worth the same thing nothing, until they prove to him they're not worthless.

  • Backstory: Orichan was once a normal human. Who after being abandoned and almost murdered by his family was taken in and healed by Bestial whom he did not know was a god. She nursed him to health getting to know him, for years she taught him how to survive on his own, and eventually blessed him with a form "That would ensure no matter what happened to him, he would continue to live on." His gratitude and love for the goddess could not be overstated. He eventually left her and went to his family to find out from others that they had all been killed. He returned to where the woman once was to find that she had disappeared , and had taken all signs of her ever being there with her... It has been seven years since these events has occurred and he is now living in the West Continent Capital as a bounty hunter, he spends most of his time in bars taking jobs from all clientele, however when particularly elusive criminals disappear the guard comes to find him.

    • Edited for more detail.
That good?
