Its been confirmed.It's happening
In 2019, But it's coming!
"We be we baby!"Welll... silver lining I guess is that those Shrek fudge and gummi worms sundaes will probably be back at Baskin Robbins.
2019 is 18 years after the first film...
7-8 years after the fourth one.
Also, this exists.
I knew they wouldn't go through the time, effort and money to rebuild and rerig the old Shrek characters just for a 1-minute cameo in a TV spot/
In all honesty? I really liked that Donkey Model way more then the Shrek standard model. It's a lot more lively, and the cartoony eyes help make it less Uncanny.
But yeah, Shrek 5 is probably going to suck. I really doubt Mike Myers is coming back to be Shrek as well, considering he's retired.
I'm actually okay with this. Toy Story 3 did okay, Finding Dory supposedly did, Tron Legacy was alright. Even X-Men made a comeback. As long as passionate people are attached to the project, and the first description we get isn't something along the lines of, "we're re-inventing who Shrek and his family are, we're ignoring the staples of the franchise thus far, we're not using fairy tales anymore, Donkey will be voiced by Danny Glover for no discernible reason, Puss will now be a siamese cat, etc etc" then it's a got a fair chance of being a decent film.
I'M MR. MEESEEKS, LOOK AT ME!Just okay? I heard that it did amazing. Even though at the same time it was devastating for children.
I smell magic in the air. Or maybe barbecue.Shrek strikes me as something that's Deader Than Disco. I wouldn't be at all surprised if this movie bombs horribly.
On the contrary Shrek has enjoyed a string of ironic meme popularity of late. I don't know if that will translate to ticket sales, but there is an audience (even if it's an ironic one).

This song needs more love. The kind of movies Shrek parodied have been long dead by now. When 'straight' fairy tale movies already deconstruct the genre on their own, and often more smartly than Shrek did (even though the first two movies did a decent job at it), there's not much of a need for a deconstructive parody anymore. Shrek did its job and changed a lot that needed changing, but its time has come and gone.
I really think that the only way Shrek 5 will find success is if it's a reboot that embraces the meme full-sale.
Yeah, I tend to look at the bright side when it comes to movies and games like this, but even I feel like this has the high chance that this will end in a Box Office Bomb disaster because most people don't really care about the Shrek franchise anymore. (Outside of all the memes.) Shrek's time is ogre over and a new movie likely won't change that unless they try something new that'll knock everyone's socks off.
It's a story focused on his kids and they have to save the parents from the giant from Jack and the beanstalk
"We be we baby!"An R-rated horror Shrek, then?
Insert witty 'n clever quip here. Why not?
Imagine what the Moral Guardians would think if they adapted Shrek is Love
It's Over Anakin, I have the high ground! At this point I'm down for it. DTS*, you might say.
*down to Shrek
Insert witty 'n clever quip here. The wait is finally ogre! Our Ogrelord returns from his swamp to teach us Brogres about his layers.
In all seriousness, I think it would be funny if they referenced the memes somewhere. Maybe a Loony Fan in Far Far Away holds up a sign saying Shrek is Love, Shrek is Life? Or when the credits end, Shrek appears and says "It's all ogre now".
It's very early, but we already have a trailer:
KILL IT! Kill It with Fire
"We be we baby!"
The first two Shrek films are alright. The second just felt like a natural extension of the first movie deconstructing fairy tales, but the third one didn't really present any new or particularly interesting ideas and was overall just a weak movie. 4 was slightly better, but they honestly should have just brought Farquaad back instead of having Rumple be the villain.
