Another LN adaptation

Some notes on the upcoming season:

• Death Parade:
  • Though ANN reported that it'd be a January show, I don't see any such announcement. But with a theatrical premiere in late December, it'd be pretty weird if it wasn't
  • It's based on an Anime Mirai short called Death Billiards
• Dog Days'': It's supposed to focus more on Nanami this time, but they said that about the last season too
• Durarara!! x2 Shou: The overall series is 'Durarara', this season is 'x2', and the cour is 'Shou'. Who thought that was a good idea?
• Fafner Exodus:
  • Depending on where you look, the title is either 'Soukyuu no Fafner Dead Agressor Exodus', 'Soukyuu no Fafner Exodus', or just 'Fafner Exodus'
  • It's a direct sequel to a decade-old series. Be interesting to see how that works out
• Junketsu no Maria: Somehow they got a bunch of big names in the staff
• The Rolling Girls:
  • Inconsistent on whether the title should have a definite article
  • The writer has pretty much solely worked on seinen action series before this
• Shinmai Maou No Testament: Some of the official art is borderline pornographic. Like, more so than usual
• Yoru No Yatterman: Appears to be largely unrelated to the original series

I was following the Absolute Duo manga, but the scans suddenly dried up.

It's actually pretty good. Will definitely be watching.

Okay, we now have airdates for everything except Jojo, Milky Holmes, and Precure (which hasn't even been officially announced). This includes Death Parade. Not sure why they held off on announcing the season like that

Precure has been official announced actually. No airdate but it should be airing the first Saturday/Sunday of February as usual.

I don't know if someone has mentioned this already, but if you want to know what shows to watch out for (i.e. whether the staff involved are notable or the source material is engaging) you can go here.

Huh, so it has. I suspect the announcement having basically no new information caused it not to register for me

As with most previews, one should attempt to compensate for the author's bias when using it

If you mean Spring 2015 chart at the bottom, that's a fake chart. It's sort of a running gag (if you look at the last entry in that chart, i.e., the Full Metal Panic one, it reads "You know it's a fake seasonal chart when it includes a Full Metal Panic sequel.")

Thoughts:

Happy Cooking Graffiti: The cooking manga is "full of detailed cuisine art to whet the appetite and slightly erotic meal scenes. Oh dear. It's the Nisemonogatari toothbrush sex scene all over again for 13(?) episodes. Anyway, it's by Shaft, so I really damn hope Shinbo is at his nuttiest. Nisekoi and Mekaku City had little of that Shaft craziness I like so much about them.

The Rolling Girls: Did somebody watch AKIRA and thought "you know what this series needs? Cute girls". I'm simply baffled at to why you'd put cutesy moe girls in a post-apocalyptic setting, unless you're making some shitty Madoka clone #14572076598. At least it was Wit animating it, so at least it'll look pretty.

Maria the Virgin Witch: I read a bit of the manga some time ago. It's a raunchy manga of the sort that is actually really goddamn funny. That's weird, because manga tend to not do raunchy humor very well. It also has the guy who did Code Geass on board, and it's animated by production I.G. So, get hyped. Let's just hope Funi doesn't pick this up so I can watch it legally on my region.

Yuri Bear Storm: This is a series that is so bizarre that I can't really form an opinion based on the previews and plot synopsis alone, like Arakawa Under The Bridge, Shirokuma Café, Humanity Has Declined and Gugure! Kokkuri-san. But all of those series turned out to be excellent, so let's see what happens. It also has the guy behind Utena, so it can't be bad.

Assassination Classroom: I really didn't like the manga a whole lot. It's repetitive as fuck and got boring after a while. It also doesn't have a terribly strong staff behind it. I don't think this will be a very good anime.

How to Train the Ordinary Girl to be a Heroine: I've reached a terribly dismissive stance on L Ns. I was initially infuriated at this being on noitaminA, but it seems to be a slice of life story about a doujin circle that makes V Ns. So, like Shirobako, but with V Ns. I didn't like Shirobako that much, really. But hey, this somehow got on noitaminA, so let's see what they do with this.

Isuca: Because this is so stupidly generic LN bullshit, I'm instead going to pout and fickle my fingers to make blibble noises. blibble blibble blibble blibble blibble blibble

It's just that the ones that get adapted are knockoffs of much better ones. Testament of New Sister Devil can be just called "Ore Imo Dx D Online" and I wouldn't bat an eye. It's like the endless Suzumiya and K-On knockoffs 3 years ago; there's no point in talking about them since anything that could be said applies to the other 10 and I've probably said it anyway in last season about a virtually identical show. I may as well make blibble noises.

It's that or unintelligible rage noises.

Both just would make you look childish, and not in a good way....

Either way, Shokugeki No Soma in spring will be what I look forward to more.

There is also the full anime for Death Billiards this winter, too.

Rolling Girls ain't post-apocalyptic at all, judging from the PV. In fact, it looks positively Kyousogiga-esque EXPLOSION OF COLOR!

That's not post-apocalyptic. That's Yozakura Quartet filtered through whatever Studio Trigger uses during their concept sessions.

People apparently misinterpreted the "mob" part of the summaries. "Mob" in this case carries a double-meaning, but given the by-line "even if they're only mob characters" it likely means "extras". The dumb folk you see hanging around when interesting stuff happens. :>

Yeah I was totally dismissing that show based on the summary, but after seeing that PV. My god I need it

Rolling Girls... Actually looks kind of fucking amazing. I don't know what I saw, but I think I want more of dat shit.
